We have gone backwards and now in free fall since SCP was appointed. This must be the longest spell of defeats on the bounce I can recall....any statos know different.....and the worst peformances in terms of they way we have lost. All this all points towards the man in charge, and that is where the buck should lie.....so take it on the chin SCP and leave the club and continue gaining management and coaching experience and come back when you are ready.
Reading the majority of posts on this thread has heartened me somewhat - it's great to learn I'm not the only positive poster around.
Agree totally with Redmidland - great post, mate. Says it like it is.
The new owners ARE in it for the long haul as is their man, SCP.
Investment for the squad WILL be made available in the summer for SCP to forge his own team playing the kind of football both he and we, the supporters, want. However, short term, I do agree that maybe he should go with thhe current players' strengths to just ensurre we gain enough points to see off a relegation threat. Then maybe we could all relax a little and start to look forward to next season.
Peter Varney is the architect of everything behind the scenes at our Club ; the new owners are providing the building blocks to ensure that the infastructure is rebuilt once again from its crumbling foundations and that includes the playing staff.
We MUST believe this , grit our teeth and try to get behind whoever has the shirt for the remainder of this season. I know it's hard not to boo and shout abuse in frustration but let's just try to keep it zipped until May's over. You know deep doown it helps no-one but you....

So what are you saying ......that Powell should quit at the first hurdle?
Is that what you expect of a new manager?
What is happening now is very much a crash course in experience for him.
No doubt he'll learn from it - and use that experience to good advantage in times to come.

Worst run for 2 years. Eight games now without a win, and 13 points from 13 games in charge.
The CP situation at the moment reminds me of the age old dilema when a boy and girl are best mates for years and then decide to get into a relationship only for things not to work out and then it becomes very difficult to split up becuase you dont want to ruin the friendshio you once had.
[cite]Posted By: TEL[/cite]Surprised to read this as you wasn't a fan of his appointment. I don't envy the man, he is starting to take on a beleaguered look. Not being negative, just realistic when I say it's getting harder to support an entity that appears to have given up, I'm surprised someone didn't produce a white flag yesterday at the final whistle. The man isn't going to walk and the owners won't sack him, so we will have to sit through more shit until this season finishes. Meanwhile we will continue to hemaorage (sp) support. Very sad.
I wasn't convinced he was the best man for the job Tel, and I also felt his number 2 should of had more experience. However you can bet your left nut he will be trying the absolute best to turn things around, and as You said, the man wont walk, the board wont sack him. So give the bloke the support.
I'm just over the 'sack him' brigade and negativity written. I do agree things are not going well, but we've been through worse, and a little patience is now needed.
We're not skint anymore, so there is no risk of our club going down the swanny, lets just take a breath.
leave powell in place we need stability he will get it right man u nearly sacked fergie in his first season then look keep the faith we have had to many changes stability will be rewarded
100 % behind CP. Too many changes over recent years achieved little. Lets see what CP and the new owners have achieved in 3 years, which is when his contract runs out! I still have a good feeling about CP and hopefully when the tide turns in his favour it will be of tsunami proportions (god do we all need it).
I can understand doubt in Powells appointment but just don't get the people already wanting him out. In fact I'll go as far as to say that they need shagging with a pineapple. COYR

No way should Powell go. The players are a disgrace and they should go.
If next season we kept Jenkinson, Dailly, Wagstaff, Jackson, Anyinsah and BWP, but the rest had gone and been replaced with fresh blood I'd be delighted. Wouldn't miss one of the others.
I support Powell as much as I do Charlton, they'll always have my backing. Charlton 'till I die.
Players to keep next season: Elliott, Worner, Jenkinson, Solly, Llera, Dailly (Squad player), Doherty (Only if we get in a pacey centre back), Youga, Bessone, Wagstaff, Racon (Can see Racon leaving to be honest), Semedo, Jackson, Reid, Anyinsah, BWP.
Support for Powell ,well he has my support for what it is worth.
Its easy saying this now after falling further down the league, but the writing was on the wall with the comment from the chairman shortly after bringing Powell back to Charlton.PROMOTION DOES NOT HAVE TO BE MADE THIS SEASON.
This should have given all the fans a warning that we were not heading back to The Championship this season.
I still belive that a plan has been mapped out for a drive for promotion in 2011-2012 with Chris Powell firmly in the driving seat. For what ever is wrong with the club at the moment we can not and should not blame Powell for that.
ALL managers, without exception, have a run of poor results in their careers, whether that's Curbs, Fergie, Wenger or anyone else and maybe had this run come later in his career there'd be a very different view of things. Look where Liverpool were earlier under Hodgson. Pardew has a 1 win in 10 record at the moment, Villa are in a really bad run of form under Houllier with one win in the last 6. Should every manager get the elbow each and every time they have a poor run of results?
Yeah, things are really grim at the moment, as bad as they've been for decades, but it's at times like this that CP needs each of us to give him the time to sort out the mess that is our club.
I just posted this in the"sack powell before its too late" thread: I think it would be hilarious if they kept him on for next season and he turned it all around during the summer, id love to see how many people would think hes a fantastic manager then after all this stick
I would love it if it happened(Kevin Keegan style )
I've changed my thinking on this, wanted him out after the Brentford game but now it just seems that the squad is a complete mess beyond any hope of repair, I just hope he gets a few wins quickly and ends any relegation possibilty.
"Jenkinson ? Are you mad mate. He's the only reason my sanity has stayed intact over the last month or so. Whilst we have players like Jenks, Solly, Cousins, Harriott coming through there is hope. And Clubs like Arsenal don't keep tabs on players like Jenkinson if they are no good."
Not singling-out Jenks for total blame, but he is part of a defensive unit that hasn't kept a clean sheet.
Arsenal are not "keeping tabs" on him any more than they do for any young players that they can get for nothing from the lower divisions. If they want a player, they just go and get him, they don't announce to the world that they are "keeping tabs" on him.
Like I said, he is only average, in a poor L1 side.

In the meantime, whilst we are waiting for SCP to learn from this experience we have to endure crap football and a real possibility of relegation to the 4th tier (where with the current performance we would struggle)? When do we say, enough is enough SCP...nice try? How many more fans does he manage to turn their backs on charlton?
Looks like we have to watch this drivel until the end of the season and I will be there searching in vain for some positive signs emanating from SCP management engagement.
Firstly - I back Powell but a couple of things have concerned me - I have watched games where you can see our hold slipping and he lets the inevitable happen. May have still happened with changes but if you are heading over the edge of a cliff it is wise to do something - like try and apply the breaks. I also think he is a bit conventional - He doesn't have a left back - Fry is so out of touch that he is a complete liability - for me at home to Tranmere's and Brentfords you can play 3 at the back - especially as Llera is left footed and Semedo is an ideal bridge from defence to attack and the addition of Francis gives you the necessary height across the 3 for defending set pieces.
As for Jenkinson. Sometimes you see a player who has a big future and I think I have seen enough in him to suggest he could be an excellent player. But we shouldn't get carried away - Francis is a better option at the moment and if those idiots booing him all the time could lay off - he might become a bit more confident. Jenkinson was getting MOTMs for being steady - not giving us anything going forwards etc...
But, as has been pointed out - this is not Powell's team. Yes he has to take some blame but he also has been given instructions from the board on how they want us to play and he has suffered injuries. He needs to show that he can be realistic and sacrifice his principles to get the team back to winning ways - then he can bring the players in who can allow the team to address it's issues in the summer and play the sort of football everybody wants.
