Charlton players who have proved you wrong

Sorry if this has been done before but with the amount of players we go through, there are loads of options.

For the better:
Darren Bent- went to the Welling friendly in 2005 with a West Ham fan who said DB was lazy and would not score goals at Prem level, missed a sitter at Welling and stupidly I believed he would struggle. Very wrong!
Deon Burton- spent the half Championship season when he was here thinking he was just a journeyman lower league striker who had no consistency and bought little to the table. Last year, he was one of my fave players and think we would have been promoted if he had been fully fit for longer last season.
Chris Perry- was underwelmed when he signed for some reason. Excellent signing in the end.

For the worse:
Most of Pardew's signings
Some of Dowie's signings
Francis Jeffers- thought we had got a bargain and a player who just needed games and would score. Believed the fox in the box repuation from Everton and England U21's.

Luke young: When we first signed him, I wasnt convinced (not in the first couple of months anyway). Turned out to be a fantastic signing and was one of my favourite charlton players in the prem years.

Aizlewood , balmer , and robinson stick out for me too. Can anyone remember aizlewood sticking two fingers up at the coverend end after he scored , while having a particular bad game at the beginning of his charlton carrear.

Yes, I remember when we lost Robert Lee and Curbs brought in Robbo - He really suffered by comparrison but turned out to be a terrific player for us. You could say that the current team collectively has proven me wrong as I thought they had more about them than they have demonstrated.

Robinson was poor when he first arrived - lightweight and injury prone to boot, as I recall he got injured in his first game and for the next two years was in and mostly out of the team. Eventually he was transfer listed but no one wanted to buy him (unsurprisingly) and so remained a Charlton player by default. then early in season 96/7 (if not that year, then it was the season we made the play-offs) someone got injured, he came in for the next game, played a blinder and never really lost his place in the team for the rest of his Charlton career.

Andy Petterson - was ridiculously error prone when we first signed him Summer 1994 but turned out to be a very good keeper indeed. "Who's that saving goals?"

Andy Petterson was great in the second half of 1996/97 when he won player of the year- terrible for the rest of his career after that! Looked so out of depth in the Premiership.

The two that come readily to mind are Aizlewood and Robinson.
Aizlewood struggled early on, but he eventually won the respect of the fans (if not the love) with some outstanding performances.
A Brighton mate of mine couldn't believe it when we signed Robinson and nor could I when I first saw him play. Turned himself into an excellent and much loved player.

Danny Murphy? The only problem was that he didn't stay long enough.

Exactly! Probably more down to his wife wanting him to be at a more fashionable club, but still a huge disappointment.

I do.He used to get so much abuse and stick at first and rightly so because his ball control was atrocious.Turned into a great player and captain.

Disappointments: too many to mention!

Surprises: I wondered why Curbs had splashed out on a certain D.Bent, but thankfully he was a far better judge of player than I will ever be....also I remember seeing Luke Young away at Derby playing so badly I thought that he needed shooing towards the club's exit door following a few similar performances. A couple of years later and he had transformed as a player into Mr dependable and someone we missed really badly when he left. So you never know (or at least I don't, anyway).

Despite his Blackburn blemish, I thought he was a solid enough signing and compared to Traore who was LB before, Thatcher was very decent.

Another who joined to play at right back but then converted to ball-winning midfield player, Radostin Kishishev.

Bad, too many to mention, especially post-Curbs.

I think Francis has the potential to be a future addition to this list. I like the way he always shows in games and his attacking play can be excellent. He can defend as well but is prone to too many erros but he can sort this out - providing our fans give him a chance and stop booing and putting unfair pressure on him. Maybe another club will ultimately benefit.
