The case for the defence of Chris Powell

  • [cite]Posted By: Mortimerwasgod[/cite] but I really think he needs to be given his own pre-season, his own signings, the chance to offload deadwood this summer (fortune etc), and THEN be judged on the first 15 games of next season. I also think the injuries at this level are significant as we have a paper thin squad quality wise.

Why are most people expecting us to have a divine right to go up this season, that we should be "small" teams like Exeter and Carlisle? This kind of condescending attitude has to stop, we are now a small fish in a big league one pond, and will have to earn anything we get from now on.

Please people give the bloke a break, he's been in charge for 11 games, and demanding his head now without ever giving him a chance on his own terms would be a mistake.

I case for the defence rests your honour.

I thought the change of management was to improve this terms results. Now we are being asked to write this season off? Why - because of Powell's failure to produce. If this was not the Great Chris Powell, (the Charlton hero). I'm sure only a brave tiny minority would support him after this devastation.
Personally I won't be making the players a scapegoat.
  • "devastation"? Fcuk me man - get a grip.

Amount of money anyone has spent watching the last seven results. Could have treated yourself to a Rolex! Yep (devastation).
  • I think we have perhaps twelve decent players in the squad, even 14 with the new loanees. If we get them on the pitch at the same time, we can put a run together. At least we are trying to play football. I am more happy than I"ve been for five years. We just lack results.
  • More happy than you've been for five years.

I'll be honest and say this is the lowest I've felt in five years. Every game were going into I'm hoping for a point home or away who ever its against and it's not just results lacking its performances aswell.

Dreading playing Southampton. Even dreading playing orient. Gonna walk all over us if we play the way weve been playing

I hope it is not going to turn into a lynch mob !
I think his position is safe at the moment but and there is always a but iwill be surprised if he is around in six months if things carry on as at present
Despite all the assurances by Slater and co
Feel sorry for the man I am sure he is trying his best but is his best up to the job required?

  • Lets face it we have Powell and we need to get behind the team, like it or not. The test will be how the board play things between now and the end of the season and the results we get. the squad has been depleted by injury and the confidence has oozed out of the players. CP needs to turn things around so that the board can trust him and his team to build a squad next season. This is despite the fact that after four games Slater said that CP was brought in to make the existing players better, rather than there being a stack of money to buy new players. If we continue on this losing run then I cannot see them retaining him. Although I was against Powell coming in, I do not want him ousted, he will never get another managerial job again and if that is his ambition then I want him to fulfill it.

The problem is, where are we going to turnaround this situation, hopefully we will pick up points at daggers, but we then have Saints to play at home and Huddersfield and, I can't believe I am worried about them, but Orient too. I can envisage a Les Reed Wycombe Wanderers situation if we lose heavily to Saints or Huddersfield, what then would the board do.

Depending on some semblance of a return to form, I do expect CP to be here come may, but I am not sure about August. There is a thread on here as a WU for Danny Wilson, but with managers available of that pedigree on the market the pressure on CP to deliver sooner rather than later will grow.
