[cite]Posted By: McLovin[/cite]So someone has reported that there have been racists comments although they didn't hear any racist comments but were told by someone off the internet, who also didn't hear any racists comments that there had been racist comments.
No, it was originally put on twitter last night but someone returning from the game.
[cite]Posted By: McLovin[/cite]So someone has reported that there have been racists comments although they didn't hear any racist comments but were told by someone off the internet, who also didn't hear any racists comments that there had been racist comments. That person had read a comment from an un-named third party, on a largely un-policed internet medium, who claims that they heard racists comment from an as-yet unknown fourth party.
I DEMAND THAT ACTION IS TAKEN
Lol. That's the beauty of twitter for you! Rumour , wrapped up in folds of gossip smothered with dollops of bullshit - all of which cant be substantiated let alone traced!
the comments on twitter (an open forum) said - and I quote....
"Thats my last away game for a while can't deal with the fans calling powell a ****"
"he got called a lot of things, I'm not happy with the way we played but calling powell a black **** is not right"
shortly thereafter Andy Ansah posted his disappointment with the result to which I replied I was as disappointed some sections of the fans. If he was following the same people as me he'd probably have seen the comment himself.
It's a sad truth that as numbers of fans dwindle - the more intellectually challenged ones will appear louder and we desperately need to stamp that sort of rubbish out.

Feel free to keep your head in the sand. Two people at the game heard comments. 1 person from here heard comments. I dont class that as unsubstantiated, gossip or a rumour. That's 3 people out of about 300
I'd rather we were still regarded as one of the instigators of "Lets kick racism out of football" and play in league 2 than attend a match with these neanderthals
[cite]Posted By: Super_Eddie_Youds[/cite]This is the one thing i've never heard at Charlton games from our fans, terrible if true.
What a waste our efforts in kick it out have been then i guess.
How on earth is it a waste?
You've started your post saying you've never heard racism at The Valley. Now there is one isolated incident you think years of combating racism is wasted due to one plonker?
Surely it shows how much progress has been made that one incident has caused so much shock??
No doubt the same bunch that called Parky a **** and Frazer Richardson one too. I imagine they will abuse anyone, whatever the colour of their skin. We need to be prepared to identify them and get rid - that's the only way to prove we don't tolerate it.
If someone is taking my story about two drunk blokes singing 'Kevin Lisbie lives in a tree' as evidence of racial abuse towards Powell, remember that there was only two of them, they were drunk, no one else joined in (that I heard) and they were singing about someone who wasn't even there. What I heard was at half time, and it had no connection to anything else that was happening at the match or Powell.
Absolutely agree that it's a disgusting song and long past time for them to grow up. I think the main reason they sang it was because they liked the sound of the song and the sound of their own voices. They sounded like the same fans who sang about the ground being shit. It's a soulless arena that I thought was a supermarket at first, but the facilities aren't shit.
They were walking past at the time. No, I didn't run after them to tell them to shut up.
[cite]Posted By: nolly[/cite]fecking twittering people causes this
No they did not, the Ansah post could just as easily have started here. Don't blame the platform for communication, blame the motive behind the original post if it was false or the mentality of the people who originally sang it if it was not.
Look i wasn't there so i don't know if its true or not, people are entitled to their opinions , ( i don't happen to share those opinions, but know quite a few people at work who do)but if this is true , it shows us up as really thick , if it happens at the Valley, i hope the stewards sort it out.
I hope people pulled them up when they heard them spouting that bile.
Doesnt sit easy with me (IF) folk bite their tongues when it happens then go and then complain about it on the internet hoping that someone else will take responsibilty for sorting it. Bit cowardly I think.

Take your point and our efforts so far must be lauded but one time is too many to be honest, the fact that the focal point of some criticism now happens to be a black man could be an indication that it has been bubbling under the surface for some time. As I posted after - the fact that this incident is not even confirmed means the point could be moot.
so we dont know ifthis happened ? we dont know if the guy who "herd it" was even at the game
remember some people hear stuff they want to hear like the Jurno at Millwaal re racist chanting that "herd" people singing Seig Heil but was actually Brighton fans singing Sea Gulls !!
Race and critcism is sometimes difficult GW Bush people walking around with an effigy(sic) of him being hanged --------------change Bush for Obama and ------ not acptable is it.

I'm a coward depending on the age gender and size of the perpetrator, fact of life, I don't stand up for my principles if I think I am going to get a good kicking.

Fair enough Kap and I imagine a lot of people are the same and nothing wrong or cowardly about that. Its the posting of it on the internet afterwards that I find a bit cowardly. By all means if you arent comfortable in speaking out against it yourself that is perfectly understandle but to then bemoan it in cyberspace is pretty futile and not really addressing the issue.
Also maybe I am being naive here but i dont think (even our mainly violence- adverse) support would stand by and watch one of our own supporters get a good kicking for telling some prick to quiet down with the racism.
I SERIOUSLY doubt that if true, the culprit was a genuine Charlton fan. At games there is no such thing as racism anymore. Can anyone honestly point out when a CAFC fan stood up and made a racist comment/chant?
No doubt the youth or that little group of teens that go to the back of the J block have made comments in the past, when they are in groups togehter but I am talking REAL cafc fans here, it just doesn't happen anymore. It was probably some chav tag-along if true.
If anyone ever hears this then we have to confront the people responsible on the spot. There doesnt have to be violence, just ask them to consider what they are saying or/and get out of our club. I will not surrender my club to these morons and i know you lot wont either. I hope and proay that this isnt true.
probably came, if it did from the same group i saw with plaayer last season and witnessed them this season singing the lisbie song as they wobbled down floyd rd at 5 to 3, theres about 8 to 10 of them and there well into there late forties if not fifties, last time i saw them they had kids with them. maybe its because were in league one they are herd more as never remember seeing them in the past maybe they got drowned out now the low gates are giving them a voice. it was tragic watching blokes old enuf to be my grandad laughing and acting billy big bollocks at there age and feel sorry for the kids around them who are gona grow up thinking its acceptable. im no angel ive been dragged out of grounds and had incidents with the plod but never ever rascist realted.
Whilst I don't agree with it, this does smell of chinese whispers to me. I think we are the type of fans who would confront this sort of thing, which makes me doubt it did happen.

ooops yep just saw that, and went to edit her name out but was beaten to it. Sorry no harm intended

He said he was here all week, and he wasn't lying Ladies & Gentlemen....

Our support base has changed and for the worse in my opinion and I couldnt care less if "they are the ones travelling miles every week".

No but it didnt need to be highlighted to CP's best mate. Hope he doesnt tell him. The shame.
I shuffled out as the second went in so it may well have been after that for all I know

Safe to say some of our fans are ****'s.

Yes I agree. It seems it can be a very destructive tool, specially the abuse that is being thrown about.
