Semedo is a good player but we need the right player/s to play with him. Racon isn't the same player he was for whatever reason and McCormack is a very limited lower league player who does his best- JJ gets goals but we are probably not getting the best out of the rest of his game. I'd say we need a goalscoring midfielder who has some creativity and presence - a big ask but probably, along with an assured and pacy centre half - the missing links this team needs.
Think my views have been clear on this for a long time now - certainly the whole of this season and my answer to the title of the thread, a categoric: Yes.
I think Racon and Semedo are both useful in this league. Just maybe not together. Racon would probably benefit playing out wide instead of in the centre .
Semedo is one of our best players, more than capable but is being dragged down to the teams level. Put the right kind of player next to him like Bailey last year and all of a sudden he misses our PotY vote by one.
i know its not going to go down well on this board and i love his work rate and effort as much as anybody but there is no room for sentiment and quite frankly, ifa professional centre midfield player has to spend 15 minutes every day practising how to control and pass a ball 10 yards, however admirable, tells you he is no natural. A complete centre midfield overhaul is top priority in my book.
I like Semedo but he is too one-dimensional - offers nothing going forward - would prefer a couple of genuine box to boxers who can defend and offer something in attack. Keith Jones wasn't the best midfielder to play for Charlton but he had the ability to get in to the box and score as well as defend - his partnership with Kins who could also operate in advanced as well as defensive positions is the type of partnership I'd like to see and I can't see McOxo, Racon or Semedo doing this

Massive difference between playing Racon and Bailey on the left though. Bailey was excellent at protecting his full back and ghosting in at the back post to score. Racon is significantly worse in both these areas.
For me, both Semedo and Racon's best performances for Charlton were at the beginning of last season with Shelvey just ahead of them and Bailey on the left. That's probably true of most of our players though.

Keith Jones offered more up front? I've heard it all now. 6 goals in 6 years!
Jones was the archetypal defensive midfielder, in exactly the same role that Semedo is in. Defensive midfielders do the water carrying so that the other midfielder(s) are free to do the damage. We just don't have Bowyer or Kinsella alongside ours to do the damage.
