  • CHARLTON saw a loan move for Preston striker Paul Hayes collapse this week -after North End chairman Maurice Lindsay blocked the transfer.

The Addicks had hoped to sign the 27-year-old in time for Tuesday's match against Carlisle. And the Dagenhamborn forward was desperate to come.

North End boss Phil Brown was happy to let Hayes move but Lindsay announced on Wednesday that none of his squad could leave.

Was just about to post this but you beat me to it!

Have to admit have never heard of him

Malcolm MacDonald. Actually I can think of loads..........
  • Dagenham boy, younger brother of ex-gooner Martin Hayes
  • I'm slightly annoyed about this for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, excellent striker at this level as proved with Scunthorpe so would have been a good addition.

And the other reason is obvious : - )

The cynic in me thinks that while there will have been many attempts to loan players which have been rebuffed this one has "leaked". Maybe still some legs in this one if the right deal can be done
  • Creative midfielder!
  • Would have been a decent signing but still think priority should be acm and cb.

Looks like next week before any new faces but as long as we get right faces they should be worth the wait.

Took me a while but then it hit me! Doh! So obvious!
  • Looks like he's out of favour at PNE but could have been useful: PNE Link

You've always wanted an excuse to buy a replica shirt ?
  • I remember Parky wanting to sign him last season.

Firstly, excellent striker at this level as proved with Scunthorpe so would have been a good addition.

I freely admit to never knowingly see him play, but since 2005 he has scored 46 goals from 225 appearances. Not sure a 1 in 5 striker is really what we are crying out for at the moment
  • Is he a target man?

It would bring our ratio down though wouldn't it?
  • Is he Mexican?

If Phil Brown was happy for him to go out on loan then it suggests he won't be playing much at preston, so what the f*ck has it got to do with the chairman, and why insist he has to stay?!

Pity, as the bloke scored 20 goals in Scunthorpe's promotion season to the Championship 2 years ago when he played up front with Gary Hooper.

Another reason for me to loath the failed bookie from Wigan.

You saw him play against us!

At this level his is good.
  • Preston chairman Maurice Lindsay insists that no players will be allowed to leave the club as they bid to avoid relegation to League One.

North End are rock-bottom of the npower Championship and lie 11 points from safety with 13 matches remaining. Phil Brown has yet to taste victory since arriving at Deepdale last month and Lindsay insists that, despite enquiries from clubs, there will be no departures.

He told the club's official website: "We have had several phone calls from different clubs asking us to let some of our players go out on loan. The answer has been no every time and we want to make it quite clear to our supporters that we are not interested in any monies whatsoever offered to us by clubs who are trying to take our players on loan."

He added: "We are in a terrific battle to try and maintain our championship status. We are not going to do anything to weaken our chances."
  • Wright-Philips, Anyinsah, Benson, Ecclestone - I am reasonably happy with our current selection of forwards. Am also happy with Jackson/Reid at left-mid, Semedo and Dailly. That leaves 6 positions on the pitch that I would consider more of a priority for strengthening than the forward line.

Agreed. It seems we have a budget to bring in two loan players , and one of them should surely not be wasted on another forward - unless we've reluctantly concluded that Anyinsah really is made of glass and is likely to be on the treatment table more than he's on the pitch over the next two months? Or could Ecclestone be going back up north ?
  • We have 2 proven goalscorers already. This seems way off mark to me. Don't we need someone to get the ball to them? Decent midfield palyers so we can actaully play in the opposing half please
  • Think we do need a hold up target man striker as we don't have one, the strongest is Ayinsah but unfortunately he seems to fall apart after every game.

I know Preston are looking at survival but they look dead and buried to me

Desperately need a big strong striker like Iwelumo or hold up player like Burton.

What type of striker is Hayes?

The defence and midfield will look worse while we're playing 2 from BWP, Eccleston, Waggy and I'm not sure Benson will improve things much. They're under so much pressure when neither striker can challenge in the air or hold onto possession.

So important defenders don't have it easy and no presence or touch & intelligence up front is just as bad as no pace up there, if not worse.
Fans will hope Hayes, who likes to drop to and has the ability to create chances for those around him, can strike up another deadly partnership to help propel PNE towards the play-offs.
From the Preston site link someone posted. Says he's 6 ft on there as well. Sounds like he'd have been useful at least in this league. Not a proper goalscorer, but Burton wasn't either and we have two of them in BWP and Benson.
  • Jesus -------------preston--------------reserve

well lets hope it does go through i mean it will lift the crowd that we can actually get in there and sign a Preston reserve !! this is of course more in line with where we are today than thinking we can sign fatboyMacarthy or Luke Young, but Jesus its dire isnt it? A Preston reserve none scoring striker !!!
  • is he a target man?
  • Beginning to think i was a bit wide of the mark in my hope that we had identified and lined up a couple of class players to turn us around - looking like this nosedive through the football world is set to continue for a little while yet.
  • we do not need another striker, we need someone who can give the ball to the strikers we do have !!!
  • Parky had an eye for a player something I'm yet to see from Powell.
  • Amazed people don't think we need another striker. Just because we also require a centre midfielder and centre back doesn't mean we can't look at strikers as well. As Scoham says, we now haven't got anyone who is a proper target man.
