Where was the Covered end........

edited March 2011 in General Charlton
couldn't hear you tonight !

No VFR, no Bouncy, bouncy...........in the words of Delia.................WHERE ARE YOU !!!!!!!!!

were you all tucked up in bed as it was an evening kick off ?

I think the fans are now getting the team they deserve..............no support = no performance.

On Saturday, try getting behind the team for the whole 90 mins and not just for the first 10 !!!

Sorry mate gotta disagree . No matter how quite the fans are they dont deserve that shower of shite we saw on the pitch tonight.
  • I'm sorry but everyone who went tonight deserves credit for going tonight. The whole game was one of the worst games of football i've ever seen watching professional players failing to do even the basics right has absolutely nothing to do with the support.
  • Boucy did happen after we went one up

But teh drummer seemed to drag it out so bleeding long it lost momentum so well done there

    Well Said Beds

Maybe if others joined in that may help ??? just a thought LOL
  • Disagree with Golfie. All we ask of our team is a bit of effort and pride in wearing he shirt. We didn't get that tonight, far from it. The general malaise of the last three seasons has in general led to apathy on the terraces. We need a TEAM to support and at the moment we have not got one.
  • yeah slate the fans nice one you tosser, its all the Covered Ends fault. Brilliant from all other stands tonight. Every 5 minutes we dont sing, the team need to pay us back by conceding a goal. Thats fair.

To blame the crowd tonight is clutching at straws. Poor show Mr Golf.

Next, you will be saying 80% of us are utter tossers!! ;-)
  • The most stupid thread i've seen.

Welcome to Charlton Life, new member. Give it a week, and you may have a contender for your above comment.
  • Think he might be on the wind up or just poxy dim
  • No,just stating that when we went 3-1 at home to Peterborough the Covered End were singing non-stop..........but tonight when we went 3-1 down you could here a pin drop.

Its very easy to "sing when you're winning".........but its times like these we all need to sing when we're losing & get behind the team !!

No he's not on a wind up as we argued about this in the car on the way home. Dim? No, utterly wrong, yes.
  • Given the utter dross dished up on the pitch tonight, it's hardly surprising there was no Bouncy Bouncy.
I was impressed with the rendition of Valley Floyd Road 5 minutes before the end. Some were trying very hard to give the place a lift in the face of adversity.
  • To put up with the appaling garbage that has been offered up for years and still muster a sing is an achievement in its self... false dawn after false dawn after false dawn...

but at the moment that is charlton...
  • More atmosphere in the 5 mins after we scored than in the whole of the Exeter match IMO.
  • If anyone knows the "fan" who sits in the CoveredEnd Upper, Row EE, Seat 144 (I think), could you please tell him that the seat is actually there to be used. Also, "Oh South London" isn't full of "t*ts, f*nn*es & Charlton" unless he is talking about himself. Thank You.
  • I blame the west stand ;)
  • get off your arse in the east or west and join in if your so bothered! idiot...

    No support = no performance?

Think it's more a case of

    No performance = no support.

We pay our hard earned money and for that we expect effort (given up any hope for entertainment).
I have now completely written off this season. We WON'T make the play-offs. So all i can hope for is that Powelly replaces this shower of shit with some players with drive and hunger. We have mediocre players who find themselves in a position where there's no competition for their shirt so just going through the motions week in, week out.

What a load of old sh*t

  • The atmosphere is horrible up there - if we're not slagging each other off for slagging the players off, we are simply laughing at the ineptitude of the players.

Not enjoying it at all. Not that we can expect it to be any different.
  • Even I am getting to that stage of thinking, no performance = no singing. I normally sing consantly but these last couple of home games really getting me down and just don't think the crowd singing will change their s**** performance. If all off the sudden the WHOLE Valley stood up and VFR rang around the stadium, then maybe that might inspire them? But just us normal every week covered end lot aint going to change it. Performance = more passion.

You were obviously sitting right by him, why didn't you tell him?

Internet warrior if ever I've seen one
  • it was complete silence last night as things started going wrong ......
maybe a few boooos would have got the team going, just a thought
  • Leftbehind.
Is it that time of the month by any chance?
  • I didnt think the crowd did too bad last night under the circumstances. It was nice to hear a defiant VFR in the last couple of minutes.
  • I honestly think the singing thing is overdone.

Middlesboro FA Cup 1/4 (H) and Blackburn away (operation Ewood) just two examples of excellent singing and suport and poor, poor player performances.

What have you seen recently to make you think we are going to improve? Are you not, like me, fed up with all the stupid strutting, hand shaking, fist clenching, back slapping, high fiveing, praying and blessing SHIT that our players go through before each KO? I used to buy it. Cor! This lot look up for it. Not anymore.
It is down to the management and coaching staff to get the players performing. Do that and then the fans will respond.
  • I went as 'Johhny no mates' last night, and I thought it just myself, that besides the move that made our goal....... a boring rather one dimensional match!

I thought the cold had got to me, and was at half time checking the Man Utd Chelsea game out of boredom, not that I give a toss either way about that lot, but was hoping that Chelsea might impload!......

It seemed pretty obvious to me that we needed a 'target man' some one that could hold the ball up, and lay the ball off to the likes of Waggy, BWP,Reid, Eccelstone, and despite my severe reservations about Benson thought from the limited hand that Chris had, should have put him on especially after 2-1 down. Obviously, if it was that simple from the alleged '20 goals a season man'

In the words of the philosopher 'shit or bust'. We seemed to get the shit, and we now have arrived where the play off's seem just a possible target to aim for!. The guy behind me shouted out 'change it Powelly' at 3-1 down I failed too see how he could.( I am sure people on here will let me know!)

With my half frozen brain, I could think of little to offer, except do not take short corners, and explain to Racon that he can shoot when just outside the box. I left 5 minutes before the end, I thing I never do, but sums up my feelings/mood.

This was a game for the diehard fan!, which has made me doubt my passion for Charlton, perhaps my brain has still not thawed out yet!.

To me the last three games have not been acceptable, and fall below what should be expected!.

I hope that on Saturday, the sun might come out, and I might get a performance, not a win, although that would be great, so that a 'fair weather supporter' which I seem to have become can tolerate!.
  • I'd be surprised if the actual attendance was above 9,500 last night.
in our group of 8 season ticket holders, only 4 went. It looked like nearly that sort of ratio of non attendees around the ground.
  • i have some sympathy for golf

the atmosphere at our ground now is similar to the times of the 60s and 70s (save for some highlights )it was almost a given that the crowd would be jeering the likes of campbell, berry ,madden, churchouse, hunt shaw etc...we havent sunk to those levels yet !
but since the return to the valley everythings been on the up ,its all been good news (bar the last 4 years)promotions and going beyond expectations we now have expectations to live up to and thats much harder for the management and the players
our team will be better knowing the fans are behind them ..end of ,truth is now that we have a squad that is in just about the right position for its ability and we have to accept that
we do need good management and guidance and we have to give SCP a bit of time to get his message across to the players and i sincerely hope we can get another goalkeeper ,2 centrebacks and a quality attacking midfielder to support our promotion push for next year but the more vocally we support our team the better
