I have posted this before. How can we have such a variation in player markings like this? Some people clearly do not even watch the game or know anything whatsoever about football. The player markings used to be generally informative, but recently it has become a waste of time.
I thought BWP was the most dangerous player on the pitch but he's been scored peanuts. People say he's lazy but after 15 minutes he was sweating like a porn star.
Elliot - 6 - Didn't have much to do, not at fault for the goal
Francis - 4 - Surprised at some of the good scores. I've defended him recently but I think he only completed two passes today. Goal not really his fault
Dailly - 6 - Tried to push up and get things moving.
Doherty - 6 -
Jenkinson - 6.5 - was switching over to his right a lot in the first half but managed a few decent passes off his left too. Pretty amazing that this is a player on his second league start in his second position.
Jackson - 6 - decent cross early on, but faded with injury
Semedo - 7 - Kaiser Jose, once again our leading light.
Racon - 5 - Gave away the free kick needlessly and generally didn't get going.
Eccleston - 6 - dived around a bit but occasionally didn't push forward when he should have been. Needs a rest.
Anyinsah - 6.5 - good driving forward and some great hold up play
Wright Phillips - 4 - just a bad day, the penalty summed it up. Had it gone in, or the chance from the fumble, people would have been giving him 8s. Such is a striker's lot.
Wagstaff - 6.5 - Made an impact immediately, carved out a couple of openings
Live - just back from weekend away so havent read other marks or comments properly
Elliot 6 Francis 6 Dailly 6 Doherty 5.5 Jenkinson 7 MOM - was excellent partic because he was on the wrong side. Worked very well with JJ in first half but didnt so much is the swecond with either NE or Reidy ( not quite sure why?) Jackson 6.5 Semedo 6 Racon 5.5 - one excellent ball in first half - otherwise continues to flatter to deceive Eccleston 5.5 - suprised he panicked on the one real time he got to use his pace for the one on one with the keeper Anyinsah 6.5 - good first half but faded second Wright Phillips 5 (poor penalty kick) Wagstaff 7 - threatened and must be back in the starting line up
Elliot - 6 Did ok, no chance with flukey goal - slip up holding onto shot on difficult surface - not much to do really Francis - 6.5 defended well, unlucky toch for the goal - not such a force going forwards as he can be at home Dailly - 6.5 Solid Doherty - 7 In the game I watched, he won every header and was solid - TV must be on the blink Jenkinson - 6 Clearly going to be a good player - was suprised to see him on the left but was defensively solid although didn't gve us too much going forwards. Jackson - 5.5 Bit quiet Semedo 7 Always involved Racon - 6 Worked hard- silly challenge for free kick that cost us - bit lacking in the quality we needed from him - pitch was a factor I think Eccleston - 6 Was livewire and gave them problems but did not have shooting boots on. Anyinsah - 7 Terrified their defenders - lacked a bit of composure in front of goal but important player for us. Wright Phillips - 5.5 Played OK but had to lose a point for that penalty, needed a blast as was always going to stick to the pitch - suprised experience players can't read the pitch and adopt the appropriate startegy - would have been more forgiving if he balooned it over the bar. Wagstaff - 7 Very involved and good forward running - a good player to bring on against tiring defenders. Reid - 5 Didn't really make a difference
Overall, we deserved to win the game and were the better side - maybe justice was done for the Valley when Notts were the better side and lost. The defence played well and a total fluke of a goal cost us. We had enough chances - BWP penalty and keeper spill wide- Ecclestone clean through twice- one good save, one rushed shot, Anyinsah mis kick etc, Dailly just over etc.... Notts had nothing but long efforts that didn't really threaten. But you can't miss the chances we did and get away with it. I think the formation and team is worth perservering with though- it was a difficult pitch and we played all the football- possibly too much football at times but I tjought we were a clear class apart from County and there have not been many games I have said that.
If we play like that every game- we will win far more than we lose.
On another note- if teams are going to put out pitches like that - there has to be a question as to whether it is acceptable to share with a rugby club. We need to win on Tuesday as a matter of urgency but if we can keep the confidence up we could be on the up with a good player introduction or two. Strikers cost us the game really but they are our strength and did trouble Notts. Just wasn't our day big time.
