  • I've noticed that too, Henry. Perplexing. Solly has always looked good whenever I've seen him in his proper position, and Waggy works hard for the team, has lightning pace and a great finish on him.

Some people seem determined to find fault.
  • Chris Solly might be a potential great, but he's made of Balsa wood, and that's unless in professional football
  • I personally do not think francis is up to the job, however he is not as bad as most people are making out!
  • [cite]Posted By: uie2[/cite]francis start career has right winger!!!!

    compronde?
  • Powell WILL sort Francis out.
  • So you think that they have become good players and that the squad is strong enough just on the strenth of CP taking over.Get real and try to run all those games this season under parky through your minds.2 or 3 players have had a half decent season so far jackson has been the best others the odd good game but nowhere near the standards we should be expecting. In my opinion we are lucky to be where we are in the league with some lucky results and poor play.CP can probably raise there play for a couple of games but the squad needs strenghthening with at least 3 more signings that would go straight into first 11.think waggy needs to improve consistency maybe good 1 out of 4 games.Reid only a good sub to bring on.Solly needs a bit more time to get fully fit then needs a slow introduction to first team but not ready yet for the step up and consistent rigours of league 1.Hope Im wrong and that they all shine under CP,but i dont think even he can work miracles.

    You can't polish a turd ;0)
  • No I am asking you where and when did you see solly to base your opinion on him. The only game he has played this year in his position was at home to bournemouth where he got man of the match.

I was wondering if you had seen him in the ressies

He might not be able to, but SCP can ;)
  • Solly has to play ahead of Francis as soon as he is fit.

What's all this nonsense about a full back having to be tall? Roberto Carlos anyone?

But you can roll it in glitter
  • Get real? Great arguement.

Waggy has scored 8 goals so hardly one good game in 4. Been good more often than not and that's playing in three different positions.

People can't seem to look past Solly's size so completely miss his talents.
  • Francis is reasonable in the air (better than solly anyway) and thats probably his strength...

In this league, like others have mentioned the long ball and set pieces can be very dangerous so Francis does help us out in the respect. However, he does have a lack of posistioning and concentration that can often lead to a chance for the opposistion. We cant forget we are in league 1, so we are not going to have amazing players, although I do feel that we need to get another right back. From what I have seen of solly, I doubt he is ready to be playing week in week out at the moment (especially as he will be recovering from a nasty injury).
  • Robert how do you know Francis is better than solly in the air.

Solly has not had a sniff since the first game of the season. Where he won numerous headers was not found out of position and ensured we built from the back and retained possession.

The good thing about DM being involved is that the minute solly is fit, Francis better be 10 or 20 times the player he is now or else he will be out and in my opinion not a game to soon.
  • Not seen too much of Solly but when I have seen him I have been generally impressed. Waggy can blow hot and cold but as Henry said he has been asked to play in varying roles and on the whole has done pretty well. My problem with Francis and I don't think he is quite as bad as some people are saying is that he can't seem to cross the ball on the run. He makes poor choices when defending and so far I have seen nothing in his game that makes me think he is the answer. Be happy to be proved wrong.
  • How old is wagstaff
  • Scott is 22 in March.

Chris Solly isn't the messiah by the way, he's not a naughty boy either, but he does have massive injury problems which don't appear to ever look like being sorted, his ankle seems to be shot.
  • How many goals this season has he got can't check on my phone
  • Wagstaff is 20, 21 in March and has 9 goals this season (7 league, 1 fa cup, 1 jpt)... only 2 league goals since 30 October though but I think that's more to do with the great start he had to the season
  • I follow players from youth since before watson leaburn bowyer defoe(prolific even at sparrows) before jimmy h took him to west ham

  • So there's a 21 year old midfielder at our club who has scored 9 goals so far this season and people don't think that's good.

Would you agree that this is also his first full season where he is the first choice player in his position

Waggstaff being criticised is more ridiculous than Francis pretending to be a footballer
  • edited January 2011
ok waggy maybe good 2 out of 7 then but will become a very good player for us
  • Francis strikes me as a player who is lacking a hell of a lot of confidence.Poor decision making, urgency to get rid of the ball, bad positioning etc.I know a couple of Southend fans who had high hopes for him.
  • What would you say solly's weaknesses are bert

I have a friend who has been involved with our youth players and he has told me solly, waggs, harriot , jenkinson are the real deal for a club in our position.

    Harriot especially real talent

All 4 are expected to be regulars in our team would you agree

    20 ;-)
  • solly just a bit lightweight and a bit raw,im sure he will become a decent pro but not much above league 1 standard,Harriot looks a terrific prospect but then we have seen many next"superstars"at youth level Danny Wareham springs to mind. Its not always the obvious ones that make it.I dont agree if we get out of this division.
  • Going back to a previous comments about Simon Francis.
He had a much better game on Saturday, playing a fantastic back heel to Mccomack in the first half in front of the West stand
Hoping SCP will be able to give knowledge to both full backs
Wouldnt say he was anything special but content with him at this level

I rest my case we have a 20 year old currently scoring 9 goals from midfield and some of you want more
