[cite]Posted By: Plaaayer[/cite]Someone asked being that Varney made so many bad decisions which sent us down who is going to monitor or disagree with what he says being that he went on holiday with one ( Kavanagh) employed one (Powell) and the other has never worked in football (Slater).
Or words to that effect.
Probably get pelters for it but I thought it was a totally stupid question being that he was hardly the one having the final say on things and the years in the Prem with Varney seem to be forgotten.
You are quite right, it was an utterly stupid question with no justification whatsoever. Almost as if the bloke just wanted to be controversial for the sake of it.

Hopefully someone more helpful than me will provide greater detail later, as I'm off to bed, but in summary it was a pretty light-hearted evening and I would say Powell and Slater got a pretty easy ride - obviously wasn't expecting anyone to be critical, but maybe some more probing questions, was hoping for a few more revelations or a bit of inside info on transfer targets and the like and unfortunately didn't get the chance to ask Powell if Alan Pardew was as arrogant as we all think he is. Enjoyable evening though, certainly made me more inclined to attend some of the Supporters Club events.
Suspect from CP's fairly guarded response that we might have seen the last of Fortune.

I agree about Fortune , i love him to bits for what he did to Palace , but sadly injuries have blighted the chap and seem to have caught up with him.
Enjoyable evening. Everything polite and fairly 'safe'.
Speakers spoke well, but in front of 300+ people were noticeably a lot more guarded than you would traditionally get from a more intimate regoinal meeting with a smaller audience
[quote][cite]Posted By: sam3110[/cite]The other question was about the futures of Llera, Abbott and Fortune according to twitter, but there's nothing else about it[/quote] Abbot and Llerra would get their chance.. need to be ready when called upon. Had spoken with them. Chris reluctant to expand on fortune, there are players looking to new contracts fortune is one of them. Not a strong endorsement. Question asked by @sadamson84
Highlight of my evening was finally meeting Kap !!
Mr Largo - If you ( and anyone else of course) are interested in attending similar Supporters' group events, NWKA are sorting a date for Peter Varney and Steve Kavanagh to attend a Q&A meeting in Bexley in early March. I'll put up more details when it's all confirmed.
A new screen as from Saturday.........albeit only on "loan" until a proper replacement is made in the summer Slater is (or was) a Man City fan & season ticket holder - but hasn't been there since January !! Powell is not likely to change the team - doesn't like to upset players when part of a winning team.
One word not mentioned by anybody: "Parkinson". Thought that was telling. We've come a long way in a few short weeks. Everyone was very measured, though - was impressed with Steve Kavanagh, hadn't realised he'd been with us for so long.
Slater was nervous at the start but warmed up later on - very dry humour, reminded me of a cross between a Bond villain and Michael McIntyre (but not as dislikable as either!), not ashamed of admitting his lack of experience in running football clubs, nor his now-unused Manchester City ST ("I've stepped off one rollercoaster onto another'). Came away with the feeling that he's representing an investment that's as much in the likes of Steve Kavanagh, Peter Varney and Richard Murray as it is in Powell and the team. Couldn't help thinking even he's surprised by the events of the past few weeks - and watching women queue up to pose for pictures with him, I've made it my own personal ambition to make a few million and take over a football club in the next few years. *ahem*
I'm sure I saw Powell wipe his eye after retelling what happened the day he got the job...
Good evening, very good turn out so well dome Airman but big crowd and roving mike made it hard to follow up and probe answers.
Powell guarded on team matters but passionate about team ethos, Kav very impressive and committed *s ever, Slater was nervous but got into it. Very good at talking for 2 mins without saying very much at all but likable guy. Said he no longer sleeps well on a friday night as so up for the game next day.
Powell would have got job offer earlier but his mobile was turned off.
Question of the night was 'when are we getting a new screen as it is an embarrassment etc' to which MS said 'haven't you looked out the window?'
Regular cleaners, jackson lifts and A N other firm sponsoring screen
I asked MS to come to Bromley but he said someone at Yeovil had headlocked him already about doing City Addicks : - )
You all have not mentioned that he made it plain that the new owners are going to be very careful with the money. Implied they are expecting the club to find new or enhanced revenue streams topay for any improvemen at the club, and that squad improvemen is going to be more dependent on the academy and Chris improving the individual abilities of are current players as getting new ones in. He did say he believed are current squad are championship quality and that is where Chris Powells coaching will be impotant, in bring out that ability.
good night and some interesting questions (as well as some stupid ones).
thought all 3 came accross very well, as mentioned before, Slater was very nervous at the start but warmed up and has a very dry sense of humour.
when asked how we are capitalising on greenwich becomming a royal borough and what are we doing he quipped 'well the queen has applied for a season ticket'
for the record I thought that was one of the more stupid questions but with a great response !!

Thanks for the reports all. All feels very different to a couple of months ago. Suddenly planning for the longer term, money will be invested where needed but in a sensible way. Powell is talking about all the right things, players with team spirit and the right attitude, playing exciting football, buying the right players but also improving our own, bringing through the young players.
In the past Parky often said the right things as well, but now that pressure of requiring promotion just to survive has gone. It's no longer just about getting the results to keep the club going.
Interesting that someone said (can't remember if it was here or Twitter) that Slater and Jimenez are the main money men. Didn't Murray say recently there were some very wealthy investors behind the scenes? Though of course very wealthy doesn't mean they'll pump millions into the club.
Steve Adamson mentioned on Twitter that Powell said we wouldn't enter the reserve league as it wasn't good enough. Was it as simple as that or did they have anything more to say on it?
Was there anything to say on keeping the academy going/investing more money into it? Did Powell mention any of the young players specifically as being promising?
CP mentioned that players used in the PL reserves league were more likely to be youth team than squad senior pros, and thus the value of playing matches v. varied-strength opponents was limited. Academy matters are apparently under discussion at PL and FL level. CAFC VERY keen on maintaining Academy for obvious reasons.
I don't think they said they were the main money men, he did say that they were investing in the club and then went on to sort of dodge the question by saying it wasn't important who was investing it was more important who was fronting the club, which was him and Tony.
He did mention that there were other investers though.
He gave an expected, non-disclosing answer that there were a number of small investors in terms of equity share but the more important issue was that of control, and it is him and Jiminez who control the holding company.
What Detective AFKA did detect was that he was asked to come on board and front it by the 'other investors', rather than this is something he has led and attracted the other investors to get involved.

I think he specifically said they were not small in terms of the money they were putting in to "the project".
Room full of diplomats (on stage and off), but given our recent results and the number of people there, no surprise. It was good to shake Mr Powell's hand during the interval.
It was also good to meet Mendonca in Asdas. I am just slightly miffed that the highlight for Fanny was not seeing me again.

There will never be a world shortage of morons.
Ah the good ol' Gospel of Twitter.....the lesser acclaimed of all of The Apostles ;-)

The new screen excites me more than it should!
It was along the lines of being friends with Varney makes it even easier to have disagreements as they both respect eachothers POV.

About as longt as he's owned Charlton.....
