Friend of mine took his daughter for her first ever game yesterday. Called me to say how much they enjoyed it and wht a great friendly atmosphere it was. They were in the middle of the East.
Did not boo him but did not clap him on the pitch. The player is hopeless and hopefully Chris powell will work it soon. Other than that good performance from the team and McCormack had his best game since comming to the club. As for the polish bye bye exit door soon for you.
Much over reaction to the supposed booing, as I said on another thread you will always get a small minority of idiots in a 16k crowd and I didn't hear any in the north upper. Francis woeful crossing got a few groans but I'm sure he can live with that.
I thought the atmosphere was really good yesterday and that the whole ground seemed much more together. The problem we have is, can we keep it up throughout the season or was it just the one game for Powell's return?
Last season the atmosphere was better because we were always floating around the top 3, this season we had a bad start if CP gets us back up there I am sure the atmosphere will get a lot better than it currently is.

The thing about groaning is that its spontaneous usually a second or so after the player has not done something. I found myself groaning at Francis the instant after the umpteenth poorly delivered cross. It sounds bad when several thousand also do it, but its not malicious, its just part of the passion of the moment.
Booing is more pernicious and pre-meditated and can multiply like wildfire across the ground.

Sorry to pish on anyone's bonfire, but I thought the "atmosphere" yesterday was virtually non-existant for much of the game. No noise, no singing, nothing - and no real football to speak of.
Also, Abbott DID get booed. Not by many and not very loud, but it did happen. If people didn't hear it then fine, but we can't just pretend it never happened.
I think the support will be even better against Colchester to be honest. I think the support was a little flat in the first half because maybe we was all worried about the result/performance? And of corse when Waggy got the goal it was a sigh of relief and THEN we could really enjoy ourselves. Am I correct with this?
I'm sure it is something I have missed because I am relatively new, but how come there is usually no more than one repetition after the initial clap clap CHARLTON/COYR thingy?

Booing an own player on, no matter how bad their performance might usually be, is just detrimental to their future quality of play and is bullshit.

I reckon we should rip out the North Stand seats, (but not during the match).
It was dead in the first half, as it usually is, there was a ten minute spell where the only thing you could hear was the hubhub of thousands of conversations, it sounded pretty sureal.
Second half was alright once everyone got back from their half time pints but you do have to wonder what it would take to get the valley rocking nowadays.

In terms of the non-singing atmosphere, I thought the fans were patient, attentive, appreciative of attempts at football and things such as Waggys new position, forgiving, and less hostile and cynical, even absorbed in what wasn't a great game but interesting none the less...but maybe it was just me.

Other than the last 10 mins the second half wasnt much better.
Given they hysteria around this game, I hoped for more noise but suspected it would be exactly as it was.
