He's a lawyer. He will not answer any questions he doesnt want to. So I'm not surprised.
  • Probably the one showing on player at the moment.

Sound's like you need a new radio mog or sky. Back to my point radio show's are the wrong forum for fans to try and establish the ownership issues (if indeed there are any). I'm happy for wyn and prague to dig away rather than trying to put our chairman on the spot on radio.
  • Slater coming up next.
  • "When Tony and I have as many England caps as Chris, then we'll pick the team" LOL
  • "We said to Chris when Tony and I have more England caps than him, we'll pick the team; until then, he does".

    Brilliant!
  • "Good evening, Mike"

    Even brillianter!

Bit of a rehash from Slater's comments of yesterday, although a different interview in itself
Asked about how far we got down the road with Eddie Howe, said CP was last to be interviewed, spoke to three others, no names, wished Eddie well at Burnley.
Asked about transfer $$, Board discussed with CP who he wanted, mentioned Eccleston being brought in, go out and get what CP wants...like that.
Asked about Jiminez, as for who plays and is signed, it's CP's job and thats it.
Said to CP when he and Jiminez get more England caps then CP, then they will pick the team.
Charlton have reached the lowest point they have been in, made it clear that board wants to go up the leagues, promotion to the championship is not the objective, give us a few years and we'll get there.
Promotion would be a bonus this year, lets give it a go, but it will be a bonus if we get promoted

Then the cardigan mob turned up, feel dirty transcribing his interview so wont do it

    Hope this helps

    Thought Slater came over well.

Said his Xmas present came late this year when he bought the Club.

Now he has a up and coming manager in CP who is a legend is it a "dream come true"

CP will be given every support.

"was CP being popular a factor?" "We had a list of factor and being popular with the fans was one but not appointed because of that. Solid, professional, coached under Erikson, he's the right man.

    Asked about Howe

Spoke to three others, CP was last some able to make quick decision. Not appropriate to mention names. Howe good up and coming manager and will do well at Burnley but not interested in Burnley, only Charlton.

    On transfers

Asked in interviews what sort of players would make a difference. CP will identify and have final say. Comments on fans message boards wrong about TJs role. Who's bought, who's selected, everything on players is down to CP.
MS and TJ said to CP "when we have more England caps than you we'll pick the team.

    Promotion this year?

"Nice but not vital" "give it a go this season".

    Message to fans

Lots of downs message now is onwards and upwards. Like to think we've reached the lowest point and now going only one way.

    targets

"we have higher ambition that being back in the Championship. We have an objective"

Pretty soft interview but Slater spoke well, seemed enthused and committed without being OTT in any way. Calm and assured is what I would say.

Bloke after was OK but couldn't get the names right : - )

Sounds like mr slater is a realist cos I think it would be a bonus with the team we have at the moment.
  • Bromley ?
Thought palace supporters live in "Bromley" !
    ;-)
  • I've been thinking the last few days would the attitude of the fans and the board if we didn't get promoted this year be: 'It's Chris Powell so never mind lets just give it another go next season'. However for me Powell or not anything but promotion would be an abject failure in my eyes and I would hope that this wouldn't be the thinking, I still firmly believe that player for player we have one of the best teams in the league so I don't see no reason why we can't go up at all.
  • As soon as Jimenez' name was mentioned regarding transfers Slater was immediate in stating it would be Powell who made the decisions
    Adamant in fact

    Reassuring

Fwiw I think he comes across pretty well and seems pretty genuine in his desire to get us back to the top flight

PS - Henry having a nightmare with names made me chuckle!
  • removing too much pressure from a young manager cutting his teeth, like it everything this lot have done since they come in has been on the money

    long let it continue.

i really like whats coming out of here at the minute
  • Very good stuff. The bit I liked the most, I think, was ''we've reached the lowest point''.

I believe it,too. Under the old regime, you always felt it was a very real possibility we could sink even lower.

However long it takes us to rise up the leagues, you have to feel that we are now moving forward instead of backwards. First time you could say that in about four years, I reckon.

    agree
  • [cite]Posted By: fatkit[/cite]Promotion would be a bonus this year, lets give it a go, but it will be a bonus if we get promoted

This is the most significant thing he has said. It makes me feel even happier that we have some people who are in it for the long-term and is more circumstantial evidence that there money behind all of this.

They also recognise that CP is not going to work miracles.

Of course I want us out of this god-forsaken Division asap, but the footballing side of club needs rebuilding from the bottom up. Bringing in the untried manager is really risky if promotion is imperative this season. Its why RM and the old Board stuck with Parky, hoping that his experience would get us up, not risking the costs of sacking him and bringing somebody else perhaps with experience, who couldn't guarantee promotion.

Now we have some people who have the financial clout to make this change and recognise that the new manager will need resources and time to turn things around.
  • I must agree so far everything coming out of The Valley is very encourageingZ
