I'm always impressed when listening to Deano too- As we can't get Curbs, maybe it isn't a bad call getting players who played under the great man and who know the club and the fans. Keith Peacock has a good insight on the current players and is another one who worked with Curbs. WHy not try to return to the original recipe for success?
We have just appointed a clearly well qualified (in terms of his playing, coaching, administrative experience) manager based on his personality and the values, ambitions and plans he has for the future of our club.
I do not think one person even mentioned his name for the job. He was appointed apparently ahead of a more experienced potential candidate - Gary Johnson.
Now we have suggestions Dean Kiely is being considered for a role with the club. Yet people dismiss his credentials based not on his personality, values, experience, or profile but on the performance, like or dislike of some other people who just happen to have performed in the same playing category.
Have you met the guy? Spoken to him? Found out his view of the game or his ambitions?
I have no idea of coaching ability, ability to communicate or whether he has the same appetite for coaching or management as he has/ had for playing but I do know there is/ was not a more hard working or determined professional player than Dean Kiely.
He has not forgotten his time digging up roads for living, and epitomizes the values of endeavour & commitment so many professional players today seem to lack. I would have absolutely no problem with him being part of our coaching/ management staff.
The comments on here do him no justice at all.
BTW Gary Johnson as a player was a (predominately non league) goalkeeper.
Happy to be corrected but I don't think that Deano has taken his coaching badges and for that reason alone I think talk if him as CP's number 2 is way of the mark.
However, I certainly wouldn't be suprised if we were to see Curbs in a director of football role till the end of the season!
[cite]Posted By: MrLargo[/cite]
[cite]Posted By: Dave Rudd[/cite]Personally I'd love to see Steve Brown and/or Les Reed (yes, Les Reed) back at the Club in some capacity.
Les Reed isn't a bad shout. A shocking manager but a fine coach.
I know it's not the same thing as coaching, but whenever I've heard him commentating I've always thought Deano came across as very articulate with a good all-round knowledge of the game. Him and CP with someone like KP, Gritty, or Lennie involved in a mentoring type role could be a great combination.
I think his choices will surprise us. He's been to a lot of other clubs and I think he's as likely to bring in someone who was at Watford, Southend or West Ham as a Charlton name.
From the PFA he will also know a lot of others so I expect a few "Who's he?" when the names are announced.
So Andy "unbelievable teckers" Ansah it is then : - )
Listen as long as Andy tells Rooney leave man yoo and joing the revolution i will be well happy
Chrissy give Noel Blake a call those who want someone to scare the cack out of the players theres your man proper Unit doing a great job with England u19's

Meant to be a good coach. Would he leave England for us though?
Was a right hard so and so at Pompey as I remember.
I mean Chris Powell is great, I love him, I wanna boof him, but he is well renowned for being the nicest guy in football, and I can't imagine him ever raising his voice, but Deano. If Deano were to give you the blow drier treatment I think I'd need a new pair of white shorts.

good call, experienced and a Charlton man.
Could see it happening, but kind of goes against the broom sweeping and having a completely fresh start with the coaching staff.
Are any of the people he has worked with at Leicester out of work?.
I actually thought that last night.
On reflection, it might not be a bad idea if there is some form of complete 'non-Charlton' input to the new approach.
Great move

Dont encourage him, he's just gutted the 'Gaffer' has done him in this weeks 'rascal jacket' stakes. ; )

Agree with that.
I'll second that.
Kevin Peacock would make a great number 2.

Don't even know if powelly knows him but that would be some coo.
You wouldn't get me calling the fella names if we lost and played poorly. His head is the size of the jimmy seed
