Doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. Would prefer it if Chrissy brought in experience to help him out. But after all this 'love in' i s'pose I have to trust his decisions.
No offence to the man ....... he's a legendary player and GK for the club, but this really is the wrong move, with have the Charlton man with Powell, we someone with a fresh look at the club, with strong technical and tactical experience I'm not convinced Kiely has the tatical nous for a number 2 role!
Not liking this one, old goalies should stick to training new goalies in my books, i.e. goal keeping coaches, we had it with Mervyn Day and I was not impressed with him.
It's such a specialist position (GK) that I think not to have made that crunching tackle, midfield burst or scored that important goal leaves them lacking in experience/areas that are required to be a good player coach or assistant manager.
[cite]Posted By: carly burn[/cite]Goalkeeper as a number 2 worked for Curbs.
TBF Day was a successful manager in his own right before teaming up with Curbs
He was at Carlisle for one season before falling out with that idiot Michael Knighton in 1997. That wa shis only real stint as a league manager.
Yes but he got them promoted and won the Sherpa vans or whatever it was that season so a decent record and only sacked by a nutter for none football reasons.
I cant imagine the new owners plan was to get in anyone who had an association with Charlton and give them positions in the management structure of which they had no experience.
Could work. Whenever I've heard Deano speak he speaks alot of sense...
Think he is probably better qualified than Tim Breaker who I just looked up on Wiki and it says
In January 2011, media speculation linked Breacker with a blackmail plot involving the possesion of illicit images and video footage of a holiday orgy in Las Vegas with three swedish waitresses. The knowledge of this scandal is believed to have contributed to his and Phil Parkinsons recent sacking from Charlton Athletic. Breacker was unable to comment when questioned but is not expected to deny the allegations.
Since leaving Charlton, Tim has been linked to the Spurs job as his former manager Harry Redknapps job becomes increasingly precarious. It is expected his strong ties with the Jewish community will see him obtain his first foray into management.
Jeeesus, give it a rest. It's not even a fact yet.
If we're all giving Sir Chris our backing to be a success then that means having some faith in him to make the right decisions (such as choosing his staff), not cheering his mane and then telling him how to do his job. Kiely seems pretty eloquent when I've seen him on the box. I have no idea about his coaching credentials and nor, I suspect, does anyone else on here.
As for all this stuff about getting an experienced assistant in, who was the experience head helping out Curbs and Gritt, or Mourinho at Porto, Paul Ince at Macclesfield, Eddie Howe at Bournemouth, etc?!

Can imagine Deano being more vocal and a different type of coach- dare I say if Powell is Curbs, Deano would defintely be Merv. We just need a Keith- oh wait!
Comments
Stay where he is if Keily is going to be Asst manager.
Ben is Keeping coach
Deano as no 2 means all round coach i would presume

I assumed he had. :-)

Quite funny who was it?
Goalies can be v good coaches, because they have a lot of experience of watching/ reading the game from that position.
Just hope he doesn't train our forwards how to slice their shots wide, though... ;-)
