Backroom staff for Powell....

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
I'm making the assumption Chris Powell is Charlton manager, a Charlton ledge a man who has contacts... The jury still out if he can be a no1

The question for the lifers out there, who would you like realistically to come in to help powell?

Surely experience is the key to what chris powell would need to assist in the management side of things....

Views please.

  • I raised this same point in the other Chris Powell threads, but it seemed to go over everybodies heads.

It will be interesting to see who Powelly wants?
  • Unconfirmed reports that Deano will be part of the backroom team.
  • Lennie would just about cap the day off !!
  • Didn't mean to steal your thunder.

Peacock has been mentioned to be by a Charlton guru in Blackheath...

I would like to see a straight talker and someone with plety experience...
  • More concerned about who might be above him!
  • Don't think the owners are making the top of the dugouts seats???
  • I trust Mr Powell to choose wisely.
  • Whoever he wants and thinks is right. Am against the idea of choosing a managers staff for him.

Kiely only one rumoured so far I think?
  • Could do with an older head alongside him to balance things out a bit someone who knows the club preferably. Where would Deano fit in? Wouldn't like Ben Roberts to lose his job so soon.

Of the hotdog stand out side the club shop...

Just for once, I agree totally with Large.

    ;o)
  • Unlikely as he was fired only last week- but not a fan of Kinsella coming back so soon. New regime and all.

Would love Steve Brown, not only because he is another CAFC great but because it may affect Brighton.

Deano would be great, still registered as a player I believe so would provide extra cover and maybe save a Tony Warner loan scenario again if Robbie was to get injured.

Anyone else- who knows, we need some experience there but have to trust Chris Powell to choose the best backroom team.
  • kinsella comes back?
  • I like the idea of Mark Robson as Assistant. Worked with Powelly under Curbs, moved on to Gillingham where things didn't really work out but is now at Posh, so knows this league and the players.

cafcdan I like the idea of Stevie Brown, not just because of Brighton but he seems to be keen on progressing on the football ladder. Wouldn't like him as an Assistant Manager, more first team coach. Even though he pissed me off on the radio the other day, he does make some very good points. He certainly talks the talk lets see if he can walk the walk?
  • Would not go wrong if his number two was Dennis Booth.Done will at Preston,Notts Forest and Carlisle also worked with people who have held apost with England. Can not see him coming this far south as it goes, but a good man to have beside you.Still has contact with Keith Peacock.

Agree with the sentiment but he started out as chief scout at Yeovil so maybe focus more on that side of things?
  • Ray Wilkins could be interesting with Chris
  • Jim Smith as assistant, promote Matthews to first team coach. Bring a couple of people in (Brownie + 1 maybe) to work with the academy and improve it's resources.

  • What i want is someone who Chris can bounce ideas off, and provide the different angle to his approach, or provide the strength to what he feels will be his weaker area. Only he knows what that might be, it might be someone with experience, or someone else completely raw, its what he feels will provide the best fit to form a team.
  • I suspect Deano would be the Number two thus retaining a spot for Ben Roberts. Don't think he'd leave the Albion to be a third tier Goal Keeping Coach.

Has Mark Robson left Peterborough following Parky junior's return ? If so bring him back to complete the trio .
  • Powell Manager (Ex Cafc)
    Kiely Assistant (Ex Cafc)
Robson 1st Coach (Ex Cafc )
    Roberts Gk Coach (Ex Cafc)
  • Curbs, director of football anyone??
  • I've long felt Deano will end up coaching / managing at some point. Would this be too soon with Chrissy so inexperienced himself? Would certainly be nice to have Deano around as the old hand(s) to step in in an emergency. Guess Chrissy will have made plenty of contacts in his various roles so as stated elsewhere, he must choose carefully, someone who can balance his own strengths, but will hopefully fully buy into his vision. I'd trust Deano implicitly to do what's best for CAFC.

Just thought of another old experienced head from CAFC's past - Stevie Gritt anyone? (Like the Lennie idea too)
  • Why should the others all be ex-CAFC? Sir Chris has surely seen enough and met enough people to know who he needs. In Powell we trust...

Mark Robson is a good shout, alongside Steve Brown. It would be excellent to see Dean Kiely back at the club.

An older head around to support Chris Powell is a good idea.

Agree with this. Chris hitherto is a coach, what he may need ideally is some one with football management experience. He is a nice guy and he may need somebody with a bit of bark about them. As you say AFKA, he'll know what kind of person he needs.
  • Important we get this right too.Really think Breacker played a big part in Parkinsons downfall.

be interesting - if its keith P and Damian Matthew as back room staff i'd be interested to see how long his deal is for. something in the back of my mind still thinks that poyet could still be lined up for the summer - not saying i think that is likely but i haven't ruled it out yet. (puts on tin hat and waits for everybody to call me mad)
