Pawel Abbott to Bristol Rovers?

Just saw this on Sky Sports as well. I know we have just signed a striker but not really in a position to loan another out, still feel slightly aggrieved with Abbott that we haven't seen much of what i thought was a good player at this level. And also, who is making these decisions if true?

  • Wouldn't mind moving him on for a nominal fee to make space for a forward in the squad of the calibre that we couldn't afford to pursue in the summer

I believe we need better to secure promotion and we haven't seen a great deal from Pav in the albeit limited amount we have seen of him
  • Ironic if that wonder goal v Swindon was his last action for us...

So in the absence of a manager, as Nicorob asks, who is taking these decisions on player movements?
  • let him go he is shite ,as NLA said u cant even buy a decent car 4 30 grand.
  • Without being horrible, if this is true, I'm taking it as a very good sign.

yep a good sign he is useless
  • He isn't very good. If we want a target man I'm sure we could find someone better.

We won't need a target man if we play it on the deck
  • Chris O'Grady's a big lump who knows where the net is!

Steve Howard from Leicester... Sven is having a clear out
  • Didn't another one of our star stikers go to Rovers ??....... chris Dickson
  • Abbott is a bloody good striker at this level. There are two reasons he hasn't done well here - one I'm certain of, the other I am almost certain of. Firstly, he's a fat f**ker. Secondly, he's a norvenner - and like Gray, he hasn't settled down here in civilisation.

  • Leroy , i saw him in Pizza hut , he certainly seems to have settled down here i can assure you that.

Jiminez. When him and Slater took over they talked about using his contacts in the game to bring players in. Even when we get our new manager in, I reckon he'll have a big say in who we buy and sell.
  • Lets not forget, it is Vitalfootball, so don't go packing his bags just yet
  • I was pleased when he signed as he impressed for Oldham lasy year but not really shone here.

    Billy Paynter from Leeds

Agree with Mart that if we are moving players out that is a sign of more coming in.

    Phil CHapple still around BTW
  • Maybe we are buying Hoskins and letting them have Abbott on loan ?
  • He's useless and was far too overweight for a pro football. Weirdly he looked a lot slimmer for the swindon game, having assumed he would have massively pigged out over christmas.
  • In for a Penny, in for a pound.

Dave Penney has taken Pav wherever he's gone, plays to the player's strengths, knows how to get the best out of him.
And so Pav scores goals for him. Consistantly.

Players perform best with the right combination of players around them, with the right tactics - and for a forward a bit of service is often all they need.

Somehow at Charlton, he's never had that - nor a decent run in the side.
We haven't seen the best of him, that's for sure.

But he's not had a proper chance.

Is Paynter availble? Would be a great loan signing if we could get him, just thought he was out injured.

no straight to the point he aint any good i dont rate him and players like him are the reason why we are in the mess we are in.

    Ray Davies from The Kinks.
  • no loss if the board come up with some cash for better players
  • Won't shed too many tears, although I'm sure there is a decent player in there when used in the right way. We seem to say that about a lot of players though - Parky sadly fell foul of the same thing Pardew did, i.e. he can spot a good player, he just can't see why they're a good player. Lets hope the new man is more in the Olly mould of knowing how to spot a players that fits his system, not one that stands out in someone elses system.

If we're looking for a similar player to replace Pav then Paynter or Howard would be great, but, maybe not that realistic. Alternatively we could keep Pav and start using him right because if we signed another slow target man and continue to play him like we have Abbott they'll do little better imo.
  • Not bothered if he goes or not to be honest.
  • Abbott scored virtually all of his 13 goals last season before Christmas, so in just over a calendar year he's got what around 5? He won't figure much more if he stays with us, neither will Akpo, they were the best we could get at the time, and the writing was on the wall for both of them when we stumped up for Benson, and decided to take a punt on Anyinsah. Why though do people on this site keep harping on about players we should sign in league 1 and below? Boogica has said we are in this mess because of the calibre of players we've had to put up with in the last 4 years, so how will continually bringing in that type of player suddenly make us a Championship force? It looks increasingly unlikely that there is serious money behind this take over, so let's get comfy and enjoy League 1, because it looks like we're going to be sticking around.
  • I think if he played as much as Benson has he'd have more goals than him, so I think this would be a step backwards

Not a bad shout Henners. Just come back from injury and Leeds may well be in the market for a striker or two if they gamble on making a real push for the PL.

Squad already has: Becchio, Gradel, McCormack, Somma, Grella, as well as Paynter.
  • Will need replacing and if we can do that to some significant degree then all well and good. If it's just bringing in another big old boy then I'd rather stick with Pawel. Like others have said I think there is a decent div 1 player in there somewhere.
