The New Official Site - views

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
So we've all had a couple of months now to get used to the new official site.

Not looking for 'its rubbish' replies, as i doubt very much the general disdain for the FLinteractive site structure has changed in any way.

But would be interested in views on whether people have started to get used to it, are using the site more, the same, less etc.

As an aside, for January so far we've seen a 175% increase in traffic in January on this forum compared to September. We're are a chat board whereas the OS is a news and information site, so there is no comparison, but i wonder whether they see such a similar spike in reaction to events like we have seen on here.

  • Use it less. Dont like the structure.

Now they seem to have the mobile version up and running I'll probably use it a bit more.
  • Not very easy to navigate around
  • I use it less and rely on the Official twitter more - straight to the point and avoids the ads etc

And while we're commenting why is the Eccleston story still not on the proper OS?
  • Only go on there to check tickets etc or if the news breaks first here I may have a look
Does what it says on the tin and getting used to the navigation, but this is always my first port of call, several times a day!

    this

don't really use it any more/less than I used to
  • Its Rubbish!

Only joking, I look at it once a day just out of habit, however if I want to know anything to do with CAFC I look on here because there is always someone in the know or who has posted the info from the web site.

Plus you do not get the banter on the web site that you do on here.

Rarely look at it at all now.

I find it very user unfriendly although I'm prepared to concede that there might be an element of computer illiteracy on my part!
  • I've been on it 3 times in total since the switch, before I would go on probably twice a day.
  • I use it less ...... but nevertheless still visit from time to time.
I've got used to the ads a bit and don't really notice them too much.

But it's a horrible awkward site to navigate round ....... really puts me off.
  • Use it less as its banned at work comes up at streaming were as other sites are fine

All very strange so rely on getting ifo from Into The Valley or here

Same here ... but as a positive it is now much faster and far less prone to crashing at peak times. In fact, so far I have not failed once to access it whch is a great improvement.
  • I have tried it but agree with all thats above. Now that CAFC Official are on twitter dont bother looking as much. It's poorly set out, generic videos, and if you saw the Macclesfield site a few days a go when they had the news of their players death as a special offer you know they dont have enough time to run all the sites properly.
  • You can find out information about 3 hours earlier on here ......... dependant on who you listen too :)
  • Its ok but only go on here for tickets and out of habbit. tend to just get stuff from here.
  • I use to go on the OS quite regularly - almost every day.

I only use the new site to find the link to 'Player' or look up the fixtures. The articles are short and it's better to come on here or search something else on google.
  • Hate the UI, but the content is still good, and at least there is a decent iPhone option now.

    Twitter is king though
  • No more, no less. Go on there once a day, to check any news or when certain away game tickets go on sale.

After Parkinson’s sacking last week, it seems just to keep an eye on here first, as it was an hour after SSN reported the sacking, when it appeared on the Official site
  • Use it about the same as before. Tend to go to CAFC twitter first and then follow a link if of interest.

While it appears that there are still as many written articles as before (and written to the same standard) there now seems to be far more interviews and videos than before.

I've not signed up for CAFC Player but I'm tempted as all the key keys stories seem to have a recorded interview which I would definitely watch if I was signed up.

Layout isn't as good but we knew that. Content is king and the written content doesn't seem to have suffered at all.

Twitter is better knew about Matt Fry the night before the club said anything

i dont mind it. i like the fact we now have a mobile official site [only found it this morning]. none of those flashing adds, etc. its basic but it wont use up all my data on wap.

apart from the problems stated above on the new o/s, one problem i think is that all new articles seem to go up with about half hour of each other. they are no-longer spread throughout the day like on the old one, they all seem to come up quickly together and its easy to miss articles on there.

That's because no-one else is using it due to it being rubbish - sorry, no good.
That's a bit like going to watch 3rd division football solely because there will be no queues to get in

    This
  • I very rarely go on there - I get my news from here or Twitter to be honest.

Im not a fan of the layout and rarely went on the old one.

I get the fixtures from the BBC and Sky

I only ever went on to get the phone number for when I wanted an additional ticket but I've got organised and put the ticket office in my phone now

Mobile version also works on Android.
  • Us it almost as much as before , i know the site has to have ads , but i really don't like the ads half way down the page , as i'm reading an article , its really annoying and outs me off visiting could the ads go to the side please?

As a side i think it looks more modern and up to date , if a little impersonal , always look at it for tables and match fixtures.

Don't like the look of charlton player , it looks a bit botched together , and not as slick ( particularly as you have to pay for it)
  • sorry for typos , computer i'm on doesn't let me edit posts!
  • I prefer the old site. I only look at the news section and find it annoying that a lot of the news is via CAFC player which I don't subscribe to.
I miss 'Your Views' and log onto CL far more now.
  • i think it's better than before however the layout could be improved!
  • Use it a bit less, although still go on there for ticket news and when Newsnow links to a new article. Haven't been tempted to look round it and see if there are any other features of any interest. Content and standard of articles hasn't changed, just not as easy on the eye as the old site.

Was quite disappointed that Parkinson's dismassal was confirmed on a number of other sites before it appeared on ours. If the club wishes to issue a statement relating to anything from new products in the club shop to the dismissal of a manager, it should do so in the first instance through its own media outlet and not by leaking the news to some hack at Sky Sports. Hopefully it was a one-off, but I thought it was extremely unprofessional.

Seem to be using CL a lot more than previously, to the point where I got a ticking off at work about it before Xmas! Expecting a similar reprimand for excessive use of the Bournemouth Echo Live Blog this month!
  • It took me a couple of attempts to enter. Kept getting CATV instead. Didn't see the link in top right at first.
