Paul Tisdale - Ten reason why I think he'd be a good next Charlton boss

edited January 2011 in General Charlton
1. He's relatively young (37) but has been managing successfully for 10 years, first at team Bath and now at Exeter.

2. He's had success at both Clubs. 3 non-league promotions with Team Bath and then two with Exeter (conference and League two).

3. He knows this division as he currently manages within it.

4. He has a similar profile of our one known target (Howe) in terms of age, experience, type of Club

5. Nothing can be guarenteed as we have seen with Howe but likely to be at least tempted to move to what is undoubtedly a bigger Club in Charlton.

6. He has a reputation for getting his sides playing "short, tidy football" (sky sports 2008)

7. Large Addick has been tipping him for ages

8. He wear cravats and flat caps and no doubt likes a cardyOur Paul

9. He's not bought success, in fact the opposite as he's constantly had to sell players and has only ever bought one player for a fee at Exeter.

10. Sean O'Driscoll is unlikely to come.

  • Agreed, good post.
  • [cite]Posted By: sadiejane1981[/cite]Agreed, good post.

Is that content or spelling and grammar? : - ) Sorry, couldn't resist.
  • 7 and 10 are good enough reasons in themselves. Just had email conversation with Golfie and a few non-lifers where I said we should go for O'Driscoll, Davies or Tisdale. Of be three Tisdale is the more realistic and I'd be more then happy with Paul, the natty dressing is a bonus !
  • Not one mention of Lennie either.

    Both :-D
  • Agreed he fits the profile but I can't help feeling he has something of the 'Alan Pardew' about him. Know what I mean?
  • dont know to much about tisdale seems to be in the hollaway mould little bit nutty which is ok with me ,odriscoll rate him highly got doncaster playing some great football .

    ??

Lennie was DofF at Bristol Rovers with Paul Trollope if that's what you meant.

yes, flash and loves himself a bit maybe or could be just a young well dressed guy. Reminds me of Buckshee a bit for some reason.

He could bring Jamie Cureton with him ...... a striker who scores goals wherever he goes. Except he's already 35. ;o)

  • 8 is a strong point, especially with the evidence provided.
  • One of my best mates is an Exeter City fan and idolises Tisdale, he'll never forgive me if we poached their manager!
  • Looks like he enjoys the spotlight but I have nothing to base this on really. Just a hunch.
  • Got to agree - he's my preferred choice after Howe.
  • Think he'd be a great appointment
  • He is a massively arrogant so and so, but can think of worse, so why not
  • What style did Exeter play at The Valley last season?
  • Have to mark you down on the spelling, Henners. What does

    guarenteed

    mean?
  • For those that have cafc player there's an interview with Paul Tisdale on the Exeter site that's worth having a listen to.
  • Yes please. Like Howe he's the type of manager I'd like.

    11. Is able to vary his tactics.

As has been said, he's of a similar profile to Howe but has maybe done a bit more in terms of earning his stripes. I would say the rapidity and magnitude of Howe's success potential marks him out a future top manager, but then plenty of promising young managers have fallen by the wayside after stellar starts - Darren Ferguson for example. Tisdale maybe doesn't have that clear star potential that Howe does, but he's managed well for an extended period, so maybe bit less of a gamble.

I've wanted someone in the Howe/Tisdale mould all along so as Howe is gone, Tisdale is a natural second choice imo.

Alright.Alright.I only found out who Eddie Howe was four days ago.And who the f*** is Gary Waddock??

I hate this s**t pit of a league!!!!
  • No ! Can't have a Charlton Manager that wears cravats. We'd be a laughing stock, promotion or no promotion.
  • i know nothing about him at all so therefore i want johnson
  • A good shout for a manager. I like the short passing style of football he encourages. Although he's only had the two teams to manage, he's managed off a shoe string budget. Interesting that that throughout his whole football career, he only made 72 appearances (4 goals) between 1991 and 2000, when his playing days finished through injury. Some of these 'better' managers, didn't have glittering playing careers.

    Elitist!
  • Don't you think that if we'd already had him as manager he'd have got the sack, and that you'd be making a similar thread about Parkinson?
  • Philip, it was a joke which sadie got.
  • Jimmy, you're right but like it not Parky has gone so we all, fans of Phil or not have to move on.

Btw I'm holidaying in the vendee in august. would be good to have a chat.

I'm not a particular fan of Parky but I just think none of this makes any sense. If I was a fan of one of our rivals I'd be laughing and I don't like that.

Let's hope that we're not chatting about this in August! Seriously though, give me a whisper with the dates and I'll mark it on my calendar. Where exactly will you be staying?
