The worry now is................

Who do we get in to get us out of this division.

We now find ourselves with Brighton (Poyet), Bournemouth (Howe) and Southampton (Adkins) all above us and with only 3 teams going up its going to be an uphill task.

Most of us on here would welcome any of the above mentioned managers with open arms so we know the managers are up to the task and looking at the respective squads I would be hard pushed to say we match any of them in terms of class and depth.

Can we offord to delay the appointment of a new manager, do you think we can compete, catch and overtake the above mentioned teams, do we need to move quickly to make the most of the transfer window???????????

  • Agree, it's going to be very difficult. Thats why whoever comes in needs to be afforded the time to do his job properly and if that means waiting for promotion next season then albeit.

Who though? Hughton, Tisdale, Fergie jnr, Hill, Johnson ? Personally I'd go for Davies again. Wanted the job last time but wasn't happy to have his staff appointed for him and not a happy bunny at Forest at the moment. Even better would be O'Driscoll if we could prise him away from Donny, others have tried and failed so what is it tha would flat his boat and can we offer it.

Gary Johnson would cost nowt in compo terms & could be appointed quickly.

Wouldn't imagine he takes much shite, is a Londoner, has experience and knows this division and the Championship, should he get us there.
  • There's a snow ball in hell chance of O'Driscoll joining us, he's turned down far bigger jobs already.
  • I think the real problem is that we need to take full advantage of the January transfer window to have any chance of automatic promotion. This means we either wait for the new Manager to be appointed and hope to be left with enough time, or we delegate someone else to carry out the transfers. We are now almost halfway through January, lets hope the new management structure will get it right. I would trust that we have already done some homework on this issue.
  • What's the rush. Parkinsons influence on the way we play is over. Peacock and Matthew are perfectly capable of steering the ship in the right direction for another match or two and if a suitable candidate is not available now then I would offer those two the opportunity of caretaking the rest of this season. It's a choice we must get right this time.
  • I think it'll be Wise now. He played shy when the talk became about Howe - so if he comes in now he and the board can say he was the firt choice but he had to be persuaded / begged. Anyone else is gonna feel / look like second choice. Just a thought.

Make a formal approach for O'Driscoll, if that doesn't work then the options as I see it are:
Keith and Damian until the end of the season if they'll agree.
Roy Hodgson, if he can get his head together, and possibly Chris Hughton
    errrm
    That's about it.
Maybes are Coleman, Souza, Zola, Johnson, Billy Davis(why would he leave Forest?), Keane, Chris Powell/Steve Brown combo. Allardyce.
In my view the people I don't want are Wise, Ferguson, Dowie, Venables, Graham, Curbs (controversial..but we have to move on), Hoddle, Di Canio, Maradona.
    That's it for now.
  • With the 3 top class Division 3 managers that you've mentionned now impossible to acquire it's time to move onto the next possibles.
There's a manager available who's got out of this league before, got another team to the play-offs and has proven to be very astute at picking up bargain players.
But like Curbs his football is boring. Oh, and we've got money now, haven't we?
  • We need to make the right choice, not the quick choice.

Look, we've just sacked him, we can't ask him back...

  • It's Jan 11th.
  • 1 Mark Bowen (unlikely)
    2 Sean O'Driscoll (unlikely)
    3 Billy Davies (unlikely)
    4 Dean Holdsworth
    5 Damian Matthews
    6 Paul Tisdale
    7 Steve Tilson
    8 Andy Scott
  • Apparently we have a short-list of around six names. The danger of delaying any further over Eddie Howe is that the second/third choices will have looked elsewhere.

I'd have liked Howe or Hughton, but perhaps what we need right now is a Sgt Major type, someone who won't take much nonsense and will get the team playing with a bit of confidence. After the Brighton result we went on a fanstatic run and shot up the table briefly hitting second spot, that demonstrates that whichever team is consistent from here on will most likely get promotion. This isn't a strong division.

Other than Holdsworth a good list. Tilson's recently gone to Lincoln and not doing fantastically well but did well enough at Southend.

agree with SHG. Of course we'd like to see a few new faces in the squad to try and push us on, always room for improvement, but with PP gone and the style of football to hopefully carrying on changing ala WHL on sunday, then theres no reason the current squad cant get us further up the table. Too many times we've rushed and paid the price, i believe the new owners have got a bit more savvy and will make the right decision whoever it may be.

    eh?
  • i thought we had a go at spurs and tried to pass a bit but am doubtful that come saturday you will see anything but the same charlton,so getting a manager is something we need to do now.

OK scrub Tilson then. Holdsworth has taken Newport up last year and has them 4th in the BSP - presumably on a small budget like Howe, whereas teams like Crawley & AFCW are minted. He also has his UEFA A & B badges, so knows the theory. Played at the top and around the lower leagues as well so not a billy big boll*x. A few sides have been considering him according to Google.
  • Why does Holdsworth keep being mentioned? What's he done to merit it?
  • Dean Holdsworth, oh purlleeeaaasseee

Source? as you would say, if I dared to make an uncorroborated claim like that!

How do we know that Howe was first choice? The club haven't said that he was, only that they approached Bournemouth for permission to speak to him.

So if we play good football but finish mid table thats OK, but if we don't and go up that's not good enough? We've done so well without Curbs haven't we...
  • On what planet are people living on if they think we'd have a chance of getting O'Driscoll?
  • Some people are just permanently worried.

I really wonder how they function in life. They must be too worried to get up some mornings.
  • Only a title to a thread Offy, I am one of the lucky ones in life and do not have a worry in the world, however I would like to see the back of league one if I am honest.
