[cite]Posted By: E-cafc[/cite]Derek Killer Hales against Hull City at the Valley back in 76 approx when Colin Paddy Powell won the ball by the touchline in our penalty area and went on a fantastic run to their byline and put in a peach of a cross for Killer to smash into the roof of the net on the volley from about 8 yards.
What a goal!
Was also goal of the season - on ITV's Big Match.
But are you sure Paddy won the ball by the touchline? Off-It will be after you...;-)
Ha ha - Paddy was DEFINITELY on the touchline for that one!
Sorry Weegie (and Leroy) for being a pedant - it's a cross I have to bear unfortunately!
3 that stick in the mind that others haven't mention for us are El-Karkouri-V Arsenal..that free kick superb Thomas V Spuds...My spurs supporting step-brother was at the game, his face changed dramatically when that goal went in Ambrose V Man Utd..Dad supports Man Utd and his face was fantastic..great strike
Against us Berbatov on our relegation day..that superb touch and great finish.
I think the best strike of a ball i have seen at the valley was the Stoke bloke who made it 4-3 I think in a league cup?game? He absolutely belted it from miles out, completely unstoppable. We have scored plenty of great goals but for a true Roy of the Rovers cartoon screamer, I think that is the most memorable one for me.
AFKA....remind me of the Alex Dyer goal at Oxford. Was it a bender? (He did two bullet headers one season at Selhurst v Everton FA Cup and possibly Brighton)
For...Steve Mackenzie at Highbury.
Against....Paul Davis in the same game.
Other than that....Ray Lewington for Fulham v QPR...35 yard screamer, top corner, home end, Peter Hucker at full dive, no chance.
Just checked my video of another classy goal back in 2004 or so; Murphy V Birmingham. Ball out to Thomas on the right wing,a step over then onto Big Ears (the fox in the box) and swept onto Danny who first time passed it into the goal. All one touch stuff. Very very good. Remember?
Best goal: Same as Leroy, Ronaldinho v Chelsea. Was just one of those, wtf just happened moments.
Best Charlton goal: Has to be Bartlett's, great ball from Stuart and a magic finish. Am I right in thinking that was the same game the new catalogues got thrown onto the pitch or was it another game against Leicester I am thinking of?
For Charlton - Derek Hales V Hull City 1976, Ray Treacey in 1969 v Derby a close second.
A few non-Charlton favourites, Paolo Rossi for Juventus at A.Villa 1982(55 secs into the game, Villa hadn't touched the ball), Keith Houchen Coventry v Spurs FA Cup Final 1987 (Diving Header), & kenny Dalglish for Liverpool at Everton 1985 (30 yarder into the top corner after 30 secs, Southall didn't move).
[cite]Posted By: scabbyhorse[/cite]Mortimer away at norwich when they were top of the old first division , " You thought you were top , you were wrong , you were wrong."
the downside to that goal was that it put millwall top.
The only downside about that goal for me was that the train got cancelled and I missed the game (and therefore the goal). That performance marked the start of a real fun era of watching Charlton with Williams, Leaburn, Mortimer and Bennett running riot....which sadly only lasted a couple of months until Bennett got that serious injury v QPR. Those lads were great to watch...and their total combined cost...£10,000 (for Williams).
Not that amazing, but Yakubu's for 'Boro against us in 06/07 at The Valley (lost 3-1). He cut in from the left and hit it with his right into the top right corner, to Carson's left, in front of the Jimmy Seed Stand. I was in line with the shot diagonally from my seat in the East on the halfway line, and the bend that he managed to get with the shot was incredible.
For Charlton - Colin Walsh vs Brighton at Upton Park 91(?) 40 yard run & 25 yard thunderbolt or Robert Lee at Selhurst vs West Brom Against us - Gascoigne at Selhurst in a 3-1 Defeat
For - perhaps Gary Poole's effort against QPR at Loftus Road. Or maybe Sean Bartlett's against Leicester at The Valley.
Against - Paul Davis at Highbury.
Other - Maradona's other goal (not the hand of God one) against England in the 1986 World Cup. Shame about the other one.
[cite]Posted By: Charltonparklane[/cite]I honestly remember van persies as watching the slow mo and it hits his shin.
I remember thinking if it was any Sunday league player taking the same shot it would have hit sam batram house.
100% fluke that goal. It came off his shin and he had no more of an idea where it was going than anyone else in the stadium. Berger's on the other hand...
Bartlett vs Leicester. Mendonca's 2nd & 3rd at Wembley. Morts against Bradford 97/98 And showing my age, Cliff Holton's opener against Preston in 1966.
Does anyone remember Bouazza's goal (was it against Reading?) that was a left footed half volley. That one popped up in my mind just now. Cracking goal.
Please don't heap ridicule on me but I was vastly impressed by a goal in our Upton Park days. A cross came in along the ground into a crowded box, our very own Carl Leaburn deliberately allowed it through his legs and flicked it with the inside of his foot furthest away and into the net. Can't recall who we were playing but given Carlos limitations in front of goal, I think this should be worthy of being honoured in our memory banks. Where Leeeeeburn goes Henry followed years later.

I have seen better Charlton goals In later years but I'll never forget that night
Exactly this.
Bartlett rightly got goal of the season and Van Persie's was a real belter, unfortunately!

Home: Berger for Portsmouth
Away: Redfern against wimbledon
Overall: Beckham vs Wimbledon from the half way line. (Dads a wimbledon fan, and went with him)

Bartlett against Leicester
As for tv goals - George Weah running the length of the field for AC Milan
David Whyte, Whyte, Whyte away at Reading.
Mendonca's 2nd & 3rd at Wembley.
Morts against Bradford 97/98
And showing my age, Cliff Holton's opener against Preston in 1966.
Definitely Bartlett v Leicester.
