[cite]Posted By: PaulCAFC[/cite]Sorry Harvey - Has Basey achieved success elsewhere? Scored a terrific volley in last weeks match at Barnet.....past his own keeper though! My mate is a Barnet fan and the feeleings are very mixed about him and that is League 2 don't forget.
I take your point but I've followed match reports in the papers and he seems to have been one of their more effective players. Whether he has moved on to better things or non-league is debated elsewhere, but regardless, he went from being a bit part player here to a regular only a division below.

hahahaha quality! I love mad miguel though, probably the only professional footballer to be seen driving a shitty fiesta. Hahaha Back to the subject, should have sold Semedo in the summer, hasn't offered a lot this term. We need a central midfielder who is going to make something happen like Shelvey or Bailey. Need a CB who is pacey and can cover. And of course a goalscorer, haven't had one since Darren Bent and it's shown!
The fact that the club entered into contract negotiations with Semedo and Racon immediately after news of the offer suggests that they are firmly in our long term plans.
Semedo and Racon are great players (at this level) on their day, and unless we can find similar/better replacements I think we'd be daft to let them go. I agree that we need a creative attacking midfielder though.
I think talks have started and there wasn't a tight deadline, this is a bit unusual for Charlton as we usually discuss new contracts when they run out. Of course the new manager may not fancy them but I suspect there is an awareness of who our better palyers are and there will be a natural reluctance to lose them as invariably replacing your key players is more expensive.
I would have thought overall that at a lot of the team will now be playing for their Charlton futures which may be a good thing.

would possibly swop Solly for Semedo although i think he'd get done for pace / turned easily. certainly want Semedo out of the midfield and if the new lot are going to attempt to play football then he can;t stay in midfield. Only other place could be centre back?
Did you see what happened when he was asked to defend at the end of the Swindon game?! He should be defensive midfield or out the team, simples.
He wasn't asked to defend from what i could see - he was still playing in centre midfield because i remember looking and couldn't believe we were only going with 1 centre half. His physical strength could possibly be utilised in defence - nowhere else as not a good enough footballer.
[cite]Posted By: sam3110[/cite]Racon has been more battling than Semedo this year, better judged tackles, passes better and chipped in with a couple of well taken goals.
Anyhow I think the way forward it this..........
Elliot
Solly, Dailly, Doherty, Fry Jackson
Racon, Semedo
Martin
Anyinsah Benson
With the amount of single striker systems in use nowadays, there is no point in playing 3 centre backs. You don't need 3 players to cover 1 man. It means the midfield would just get completely dominated. Wing backs are also outdated.

Read this article for a far more succinct way than I could ever put it:
