[cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]Pre-season we were all talking about the "20 goal a season striker", and wondering how we could get one.
Benson's previous manager said that if you give him a service, he'll score 20 goals a season for you.
With Charlton, he's averaging around 1 goal in 2 matches (which IMO is pretty good, better than the industry standard of 1 in 3 for a decent striker) and with indifferent service, often just a hopeful high ball hoofed vaguely in his direction.
And none of his tally include penalties, unlike many good strikers.
Well, he's still on course for 20 goals a season. That's what we were asking for, isn't it?
and exactly one of the reasons PP had to go. how can you spend all ur money on a player and play to his weaknesses not his stregnths?!!...the guy will get more than 20 if he's given the right service.

Are you being ironic, VG? So Parky managed to buy a 20-goal a season striker for £250K, therefore he deserved to be sacked?

no im saying that you didnt need to be a great manager to see that paul benson could score a goal. the guys record is very decent. how you can buy him and then play the complete opposite of the style of football that got him goals at other clubs is the sign of a shite manager. clueless parkinson in a nutshell.
Yes, Parky was so clueless that he also managed to sign Anyinsah for nothing when most on here had never even heard of him, yet now we recognise that he is key to the success of our forwards. Perhaps if Parky had had a bit more money available, he might have been able to sign someone similar to Anyinsah but less injury-prone. Then Benno would be scoring even more goals, and we'd undoubtedly be runaway league leaders. But Parky would still deserve the sack accordng to some...
[quote][cite]Posted By: Covered_End_Lad[/cite]leigh griffiths? someone has been playing football manager ;) if he is half as good in real life he would bang them in for us[/quote]
Surely we need a midfield general type who is able to dictate play and react to changes in tactics from the other side - something that we seem to be incapable of doing. Kish seems to be perfomring that role for Brighton and Hoolahan did it last season for Norwich. I used to think that Racon could grow into such a role.
Couldn't agree more re: Benson - It's the quality he gets (or actually doesn't) with service into the box. When that happens we look like scoring. I would like to see Le Fondre sign along with a wide right man as Wagstaff is very in and out (actually I think he has caught LLoyd Sam's disease of playing inside right instead of making the pitch bigger by staying out wide!!) Leon Legge at Brentford always seems to have a good game against us - looks very solid. Wright-Phillips I would be happy to see. But we can all the best forwards in the world but they thrive on supply which our wide guys don't seem to do as we play so narrow at times and play like Super Clive is still in the side!!?

i've not played football manager since the days of Premier Manager on the ST.
have you seen the goals he scores? ok only Scottish league one, but he could definitely smash them in down in league one.
probably go to a decent Championship side though..
Striker - Craig Davies (Chesterfield) Midfield- Jonathan Douglas (Swindon) Goalkeeper -Frazer Forster (Newcastle on loan) Matt Fry back on loan, New right back not sure who. Centre back- Darren Ward (millwall) ? Plus a few premiership loans.
Disagree that Doherty is a good signing - far too slow - makes Dailly look quick - we desperately need a centre half with a bit of pace
Also think that Reid has been a major disappointment this season (apart from first games of season) - no coincidence that our unbeaten run came when he was not in starting 11
Personally think that most important signing needs to be a talismanic box to box midfielder in the Kinsella/Parker mould - Semedo/Racon together won't get us up

Yes Darren Ward the CB we had on loan the season we went down from the Championship. Looked a good player while we had him but I guess it wasn't hard to look good playing with Hudson.
Doherty good clearing headers? good signing? absolute rubbish, he's a liabilty, will get back in the team after Monday's disaster, but really we need 4 centre backs, right back, left back, maybe a gk, most good sides have a solid defence, then add the flair players around that. I bet you'd see a different Racon, Reid, Martin if they had confidence in the defence, ours is very very very poor! Also interesting that everyone seems happy to tout players at League 1 and below, money or not, you have to ask yourself, if we go for these lower league "stars", and we win promotion, how good are they going to be in the championship? Leeds, Southampton, Norwich all have players who are good enough, look at the Championship table, Norwich, without Doherty are third! Not sure about the loans thing either, are a bunch of swish teenagers going to fancy League 1 hatchet men in Feburary? I think were going to get some Championship reserve players with a bit to prove, and some unknown foreigners.

Never mind.
Adam le Fondre - Rotherham - FW
Reuben Hazell - Oldham - DF
Sean St. Ledger - Preston NE - DF
Leigh Griffiths - Dundee - FW
Nick Blackman - Blackburn (loan) - FW
not sure about the middle, i think Lee Martin, Semedo, Reid & Jacko are all decent. least not forgetting Racon and Waggy.
also mido is available ;)
Yh thats what i thought
Semedo is too defensive altho a good player, would work against better opposition when we are forced to play 3 central players.
Racon too inconsistent, altho has more recently turned in some better performances - butonly in League 1 I might add.
A centre half young tall and athletic, and a pacy centre forward who can make space, hold up the ball and service Benson
think we have enough wide men personally
oh yeah and a left and right back...
left back - qualities required - ok defender- pace- good going forwards
Striker - qualities required - good movement - pace - strength - lively a bonus if he is prolific.

Well, Racon could hardly turn in better performances for us this season in any other league! ;o)
For what it's worth, Racon looked decent enough whenever he played for us in the Championship.
