Doesn't this make it less likely that Wise is on his way - as he's mates with the new owners and available now wouldn't they just appoint him if that was their plan?
Keith P & Damian Mathew looks like Varney's influence (which would be reassuring).

65 years old and the last team he managed was Maidstone U, 20 years ago! So I can certainly see WSS's Les Reed analogy.
A bit desperate but hopefully very short-term stop-gap.
And rather shows that Slater was not lying about his intention of supporting Parkinson and clearly did not have anyone lined up to take over immediately. You can only assume that he felt the situation he found with Parkinson when he got his legs under the boardroom table left him no choice.

This doesn't mean wise isn't lined up at all. Think about it, if they brought him in straight away that would be admitting that pp was out the door from the moment they took over. That would probably not sit too well with alot of supporters, whereas if they keep him out of the picture for a week or 2 then it may seem less calculated and halt any possible revolt by fans or players........Meanwhile the cheeky cockney is beavering away in the background sorting out his new signings, ready to step in. At least thats what i might suspect if i was a cynical old bastard ;-)
[cite]Posted By: WSS[/cite]Smacks of Les Reed and sucking up to fans. At least it is somebody I can relate to.
No it doesn't. Just temporary and as they took the decision to sack all the management staff not many other options open to them short term.
Other than having a team/manager ready to come in? I agree its one of a few options but I feel it is a complete appeasement ploy to the fans and causes an unnecessary period of uncertainty for the players.

Disagree.
I think yesterday's performance & the crowd's reaction (plus Parky's ill chosen post match comments about not being able to raise the team for the 2nd half) provided the best opportunity for them to get Wise in without too much opposition if that was their plan - on the basis 'well we had to do something & Wise is available etc' - even if they at first made it 'temporary' & later appointed him full time.
I don't rule out some role on 'Player Aquisitions' or similar though....
Keith is a safe pair of hands and just been stated on sky....... ( so it must be true) that he is too take charge of the Spurs game, and that the bookies have 'closed the book' on Dennis Wise. I will be able to pop around and give him an earful when he takes the greyhound for a walk ,wonder if he can give me a lift on match days!
Not surprissed with Wise. Personally I might need some time to get used to that particular individual.
BUT, get the impression that the new regime will want to ring the changes .
Kinsella seems to be a harsh casualty, but obviously the new owners want there own people , and may well want to change things around!.. and I get the feeling that it may not stop there! 'root and branch' ..... speculation of course, but then
I think this was on the cards, if I had to hazzard a guess!.
A wise (excuse the pun) move to appoint Keithie. It will be a real honour for him to manage his beloved team. The result at Spurs is a forgone conclusion, however Keith may learn a lot about the charactor of the players. Who knows if Curbs does come back Keithie may well have a bigger role to play again. What we don't want to do is appoint the new manager before Sunday and then he gets of to a dreadful start by the team getting hammered at Spurs.
Well, as the OS says, it is just a temporary appointment.
With the entire management team gone, somebody has to take training this week and prepare the team for Spurs on Sunday. And Peacock & Matthews are a steady choice.
Someone said that Peacock hasn't managed a team for 20 years. In a sole capacity that is no doubt correct - but during the past 15 years he has had huge input as Assistant Manager at both Charlton and West Ham, much of the time in the Premiership.
That's top level experience. He's an old head.
It's not as if he doesn't know the ropes.
I too am gutted for Kinsella, but i think the problems we have had before is rolling regimes, never fully replacing the set-up, just changing the reporting order. We need new idea's and new staff. Kinsella is and will always be a Charlton Legend in my eyes.
Keith Peacock is not too surprising a caretaker boss. he has managed before and is available and is Charlton through and through. But only as a caretaker. Got a lot of respect for Keith as a person, player and coach, so don't want him being hounded out by the fans if things went wrong.
Will be interesting to see who the final permanent manager is.
Yer Queensland_Addick because knowing our set of supporters, we would bring Mourinho in, get thrashed by Spurs and our lot would be booing and calling for his head!

That is a very good point and I confess I hadn't thought of that.
Whether it is Dennis Wise or whomever else, they do not want the new man to start the job with a morale-sapping 6-0 at WHL.
Absolutely no point in making a proper appointment until after next Sunday. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the only game Keith gets in charge. The only sides I think he's ever managed were the Gills and Maidstone and to be able to add even a single Charlton game to his managerial CV will make him very proud - whatever the score.
Meanwhile the delay in making a proper appointment is not going to affect the transfer wheelings and dealings, which are clearly already being handled by Jiminez/Slater (probably with informal input from Wise).
I think we will get someone in before the spurs game, clearing out Parky and his assistants to me mean that there is someone lined up, you wouldn't leave the team without any sort of managment to steady the ship. the appointment of peacock is to pacify the fans a little.

Played in 34 of our 46 games in the promotion season of 74/75...
Also played when we beat spurs 4-1.
