• Parkinson and his team were on contracts til the end of the season - that suggests that the previous owner (Richard Murray) was hardly in a desparate rush to golden handcuffs them either. I'd have been very dissapointed if they hadn't acted as they did and quite frankly i wouldn't be surprised that when they sat down and Phil said we need another experienced slowish centre back and a slow forward rather than a complete new midfield, they realised they were talking to somebody who couldn't see the wood for the trees.
• I liked Parky and would have liked to let him finish this season but after watching the match on Monday I changed my mind. I'm not alone in changing my mind after witnessing the poor performance, surely our new owners are allowed to change their minds after witnessing another poor performance from a manager who made poor decisions and seemed unable to motivate the team.

Even Parky changed his mind when he accepted the job at Hudderfield and then rang the club an hour before the press conference as he had a better offer from Charlton.

Whether they are the right people for Charlton remains to be seen, but until they prove otherwise they have my support.
• When you think about it - the transfer window probably got Parky the sack. I assume the board decided they couldn't risk their money and wanted it spent by their choice. Points to some money being made available which is a good thing as long as the new manager undertsand that with some subtle rebalancing we have a good squad of players for this level and doesn't throw the baby out with the bath water which could prove disaterous.
• In whatever profession you are in, there are key points that you can look back upon where you did such a good day's work or said something so impressive that it inspired confidence in others, particularly those more senior than you and led on to better things as a result of the lasting nature that positive impressions can have.

The same cannot be said in football, where results move game to game, run of games to run of games. With a backdrop of recent poor(ish) results, I think Parky was being given the benefit of doubt, but he got is so spectacularly wrong in front of the new Board on Monday night, on Sky and in front of a lot of dis-illusioned fans, that they decided to bite the bullet hard. Nothing more than that. Certainly didn't intend to deceive us.....imho!
•
[cite]Posted By: liamhappe[/cite]Am I the only one who finds it curious that Charlton's form went from a lengthy undefeated run featuring several great victories to losing at home to the likes of Walsall and being outplayed by ten men at Brighton.... pretty much around the announcement of the takeover and due dilligence?
We were dire in the month or so leading up to the Brighton result - gifting goals and points and generally looking sluggish and an easy touch, then after Brighton the team seemed to turn it around - Jackson came into midfield, Fry at LB, Anyinsah started playing and starting more frequently and we had a great run of results, backed up by good performances. The downturn in form came when a few players got injured and suspended and then Parky had to start selecting players from his second choice team and utilising tactics that didn't suit them.

I doubt the takeover talk unsettled the team, and if it did, it shouldn't have, these are professionals and have an extra incentive if they know that new owners are in the wings. Since Slater and Jiminez have come in three coaching staff have gone and I've no doubt that one or two players will follow them.
• "the good reputation of the solicitors' profession as a whole"

Now that bit made me piss myself !!
• So were they either mendacious or economical with the truth? Perhaps neither. I've got another theory. We were sat third in the table, apparently doing well, Parky manager of month etc.etc. But we had seen the games and knew exactly what was going on and the general opinion was that we were lucky to be where we were - flattering to deceive etc. The goodfellas didn't have as much hard info as us, and took the league position as a reliable general indicator that we were OK'ish, probably needing to augment/strengthen with 2 or 3 players. The Boxing Day game was postponed, Slater saw one away game and Wise, to the best of our knowledge had seen only one recent game. The true extent of the problem only became apparent to them on jaw drop Monday (and oh boy, did the horror show on their faces!) The penny having dropped, they had to take immediate and decisive action, and that is what they did.
• interesting thought stilladdicted ... although Slater did say in his interview that he had seen a few of our games besides the one live game ... so I assume he meant televised or taped
• Anyone going on about how we've been lied to needs their head mending. We've been shocking for weeks. 1 win in 8 in all competitions.
Bristol rovers are struggling, they got a point against us. Luton outplayed us at the Valley. We couldn't beat 10 men at Brighton and Colchester, the performances at home to Walsall and Swindon were 2 of the worst home displays in living memory given the opposition, and the JPT game at brentford was pretty bad as well.
Parky had to go, we know that, they knew that. Get over it and move on. Even if its Wise, he certainly can't do worse than the sh*t the team was serving up under Parky.

Chris P may be the messiah. But you, Mr Large, are a very naughty boy for reviving this thread!

Stupid thread all along, and some of us said so at the time. But today not a day for point-scoring (even though you've done it very wittily and with an admirably light touch).

Today is a day for saying in one mighty voice :

WE ARE CHARLTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
• Appointing Sir Chris gives me real hope that they understand what this club is all about - I'm sure that we also have the influence of the Charlton men on the board to thank as well. It feels like we have got something back that we have been missing for a long time.....

I can't stop smiling!
• Not LIARS, very nice men. They saw immediately that the soul had been ripped out our club BUT they have just given it back!
