Will we be seeing any football at the Valley on Boxing Day?

edited December 2010 in General Charlton
Looking at the forecast for this week methinks not.

Overnight temps of around -6 all week. Further snow tomorrow night and Thursday.

Doesn't look good.

  • get the orange ball out!
  • Quite frankly we havn't seen a lot of football at The Valley for some time.
  • I wouldn't mind if it was called off. It's the only home game I won't make.
  • I live in Charlton and just walked home. It is the coldest i have felt it out there ever I reckon. As im sure it is everywhere else.

Stupid idea to go for a walk. Brrrrrr.
  • Hope it isnt called off.

    Harsh, but fair!
  • I'm heading down from Shropshire for this one so I really hope by some miracle it isnt called off.
  • Unless the weather changes for the better, I can't see it going ahead.
  • Better not. Be called off I'll have to spend the day with the mother in law
  • I'm meant to be bringing a friend but if it called off he won't be coming - what would the club do in that scenario?

  • I reckon the tropical sunshine on Christmas Day will melt the snow. You heard it here first.
  • Hope so as it'll only be my second home game of the season :-(
  • Nooooooooooo tickets bought for all the family - better not be called off!

    Have you taken crystal meth?
  • mmmmmmm... crystal meth, yum!

Me too, and most of the the family will not be able to make any new date.

Have we got proper covers at the Valley again now? A year or two ago, we seemed to be using WW2 army surplus blankets!

But I'm sure the new owners will spend their first full day in charge on Christmas Day out on the pitch with bunsen burners making sure the game can go ahead...
  • No trains so i wouldnt mind
  • Well im back from Melbourne so I will be thouroughly hacked off If its off!!

Last game was when we got relegated form the prem!!

    Swap places with you, Mascot.

I'd give anything to be in Melbourne on Boxing Day for the first day of the fourth Test!!!

  • no no mate, Im back...

For 2 weeks... Im missing the cricket, because im here, on old kent road right now...

backe for xmas and a mates wedding... desperately want the game to be on...
  • can't see it going ahead if the temperatures stay like this.
  • Mixed feelings for me.

My daughter is back so would be nice for us to go but I'm also supposed to be somewhere else!

A postponement would solve a potential problem I suppose.
  • My question is will we see any decent football if it is played ?
  • [cite]Posted By: CafcAndy[/cite]New owners might mean we can crank up the under-soil heating.

    Do we have undersoil heating?

I know we had a funny tent thing a few years ago but I didn't think we had undersoil heating?
  • We do not have undersoil heating, we had the big tent. It has not been used for years ascot had holes in it and it cost too much to repair.
  • Frost covers only, which are generally only any good up to about minus 2.
  • There is no chance of footy on boxing day
  • The forecast isn't too bad for the rest of the week so I can't see why not
