looked pretty assured so far although guy playin on brentfords left isn't a left winger, still has given me more confidence than francis has last few games
[quote][cite]Posted By: sunce mamino malo[/cite]It's going to be good for him in the long run and my hat off to Parky for having the gumption to give him a go.[/quote]
It didn't take gumption to replace Francis at last. It should have been done months ago. Parky finally cottoned on. Thought Jenkinson was almost the only positive tonight so Parky will probably go back to using Francis at the first opportunity.
Let's not get carried away, he did ok but is still very raw and not ready for a prolonged stay in the 1st team if we are to go up. He was badly at fault in his positioning at the end that led to McDonald's chance, which he should have scored!
"Overall we got some positives tonight, none more so than our young right-back Carlo [Jenkinson] who I thought put in a very good debut.
"When you make debut it's always a big night, and when the game is on TV that adds to it.
"When I told him he was playing yesterday he shook my hand and said 'thanks for the opportunity and I'm going to take it'.
"Looking at him around the hotel today I felt he was confident.
"He's done well on loan at Eastbourne Borough and it's a message to our other young players that we are trying to get the first team pros out on loan, because they need that experience of first team football whether it's in the Conference or in the Ryman League.
"We are monitoring them all the time and all the staff are watching the DVDs of the games and if they do well we will bring them back and give them the opportunity.
"A lot of our supporters love to see our young players get a chance. When I see them they always ask me who is going to get a chance and I always tell them when someone deserves it they will get an opportunity.
"I thought Carlo deserved his chance tonight and he's going to be part of the squad through this Christmas period."
As above, pretty turgid game and brightened by Jenkinson and eeeerrrrrrr thats about it other than reminding me how much we miss players like Benson Anyinsah and Jackson

I can't see Malo saying anywhere that it took gumption to replace Franny. He's attributing said gumption to handing an 18-year-old debutant a start instead of, say, moving Dailly to RB again and promoting Llera from the bench.

I think your getting carried away!!
The lad done very well and i liked the urgency he put into the game looking to take quick throws challenging for balls with a real determination rather than our usual try a nick it off them without a full blown tackle.
[cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]Did fairly well but some mistakes that Francis would be slaughtered for.
Deserves to keep his place, like any young player should get better with more games.

agree with the above, I think we are all getting a bit carried away as he's 'one of our own youth players', a bit like the Rob Elliot situation really. People's views tend to become blinkered sometimes with youth team players
He did o.k, but some of his hoof's into no man's land would've got Francis slaughtered, positioning was at times poor.
He'll get better and derserves more time, but let's not build him up to be the next Johnny H only to then knock him down again
While it annoys me how quickly most have forgotten the good contributions Franny made in some of the team's better games, his wild incosistency is always going to cause concern and while Carlo wasn't amazing or anything last night, he put in an extremely solid and reliable performance, which happens to be exactly what Simon's been lacking.
I think that's the main reason Jenkinson seemed such a breath of fresh air against Brentford. I for one am chuffed that he got his chance and to a decent extent, took it as he was my personal favourite player of last season's crop of second year scholars and he more than deserved his pro deal.
He's pretty mobile. More importantly, he is a very mentally alert player so he rarely puts himself at a disadvantage where he has to sprint to catch up with play. He was caught out of position a couple of times last night but apart from that did well.
As long as he keeps working at his game and improving should have a good chance of making it. Unlike Solly his height isn't a weakness (not that Solly can't make up for it in other areas) and unlike Basey his pace doesn't limit him as a full back.
I think it was a good debut. He did some useful tackles and watches whats going on around him which i was impressed with. When Brentford were on the attack at one point he was tracking a player into the centre, but he saw a player pass on the wing so left the player with the ball to Dailey and Doherty and tracked the free man. Which personally i thought showed great awareness for a young lad.
Ok he looked a bit weak with his long distance passing and a weak foot for crossing, but rather than trying the flash and failing he did try to keep things simple which worked.
Not as good as Solly in my opinion, but for a debut he looked promising. Fingers crossed he will be given another go on Saturday.
I totally agree with the guys who think he is a better player than Francis already. If there are any criticisms to be made of Parky i do believe it is this signing. Now maybe he hasnt fitted in yet, or for whatever other reasons he is underperforming, but some of the technical mistakes we see him make week in week out just makes me wonder is he footballer? It certainly doesnt come across as a natural talent to him. Jenkinson on the other hand, and yes I know its only been one game, but straight away at times when Francis would smash the ball up the pitch into no mans land, he would turn around and look for the simple pass. Its just little things like that which shows that he oozes maturity, it may look simple to do that from the TV but its certainly not out on that pitch. What I really liked about Jenkinson was the way in which he looked to get forward and support Martin even though Lee was playing as an advanced winger. And yes he was out of position towards the end which could have proved costly but in his first game, live on TV i thought he was superb!

Wll done Jenks!

Not sure I want him to play in the next game . Youngsters need time to develop .Maybe lets see Seip otherwise his loan seems pointless.
"Parkinson was also full of praise for debutant right-back Carl Jenkinson who produced an assured display"

Well done son keep it up.
Jenko actually passes it, plays the simple thing and doesn't just launch it off the pitch.

How quick is he? Are we talking Basey, Youga or something in between?
