Faversham to Gatwick airport tomorrow am - what are my chances?

edited December 2010 in General Charlton
Insurance doesn't cover adverse weather conditions so have to get to the airport if only to be told I can't fly to Malta as that IS an insured event. Seems pretty daft and ill advised to me to me, but will I make it to the airport by car? Planning to leave at 06:00 and allowing 4 hours to get there. ( Have packed shovels, blankets thermos etc.)

Best thing to do for any chance of getting there.
  • Gatwick is closed until at least 10am on Thursday.

No point in going - insurance or otherwise.

How are they going to know you didn't turn up there?

    17:00 Important passenger advice
Due to severe weather conditions, there will be no departing and arriving flights at Gatwick today or overnight. The runway will remain closed until at least 10:00 hrs Thursday 2nd December. There will be significant disruption, delays and cancellations tomorrow and passengers should not set out for the airport before checking with their airline for the latest information.
  • You have to attempt to check in and then talk to the holiday rep who will be at the airport. Saga ( for us old doddery gits) is telling us that we have to go to the airport and then wait or go back home when they tell us to. We had no idea that we wouldn't be covered in such extreme weather circumstances, but even older and wiser now.
  • Just been a report from Gatwick on the bbc , the airport is closed till 10am , and the reporter thought it opening was 'optimistic'

A lady was going to Heathrow as she had been there two days!

Hope you get away, you will need a holiday to get over the Gatwick fiasco.......
  • Is saga just your insurers or your holiday company too?

Very irresponsible of them to tell you to travel to an airport that is widely known as being totally closed

  • In Eastbourne we have 20-25cm of snow with no trains or buses I would imagine making it to Gatwick would be a very long journey.

Be interesting to see if this goes ahead!, with or without the extra 720.
  • What the Rochdale game or snow clearing?
  • Checked with our beloved operators and insurers - both Saga. They ain't got a clue what they are going to do. I'm still awaiting the emergency call to let me know that Gatwick is closed. These things take time............ luckily we're tucked up safe and warm at home.
  • I heard the M25 has had it too SA, so prob best way to go!
  • What the Rochdale game or snow clearing?.....

I will settle for either, but as the snow clearing in Bexley has FA of a chance, let's hope the game is on shall we!
  • I'll be in the same boat tomorrow
