  • Dennis Wise is at The Valley today
  • edited November 2010
Did he have a Sainsbury's sandwich at half time ?

Was he with anyone in a big white hooded dress thing and black rope around his head with a bucket of sand ?

Could you hear him humming THE WHO tunes ?
  • He was sat behind me and whoever he was with was helping him analyse the team in detail.

Well he'd need help, knows feck all about football himself.
  • Don't know who it was with him but think he played for Millwall.

Noel Whelan was there today as well, were they together ?

I didnt get a good look at him tbh but it might well have been
  • Whelan mentioned on Soccer AM that he was staying at Dennis's house while in London. Fascinating stuff I'm sure you'll agree.
  • Noel Whelan actually said at the end of Soccer AM that he and Wise were off to watch Charlton v Yeovil, so there is clearly something afoot here, though personally I think they can f*** off

  • Maybe they were just scouting for team/teams unknown?

    A reasonable assumption.

Did you hear the one about the punchy dwarf and the alcoholic? ;-)
  • Just logged onto the companies house web site to see if there have been any developments with Sebastien Sainsbury's Charlton Athletic 2010 company (somebody has to do it!) and noticed a new company was set up this week called Charlton Athletic Youth Development Centres. This company is based in Chelmsford and has one director, a James Melhuish. His only other directorship is a company called S>I>H Curtains Limited which seems to be worth very little. Just logged onto the new OS for first time but could not find any reference to a new Youth Centre initiative. Have I missed something? Does anyone know who this James Melhuish is and if he is connected to the club?
  • Surely any company wanting to use charlton athletic or cafc in there title would need permision from the club? If i won the lotto and bought welling i wouldnt be able to change them to charlton athletic would i? Or if i was floging gear with cafc on it i would need permison or am i wrong?
  • Plymouth issued a winding up order today from HMRC.

Who was down in Plymouth holding talks today? Peter Risdale!

Just googled them and aparently SIH Curtains Limited are "THE Curtain and Blind Specialists". Sounds like an exciting new partner....

Would you actually need permission from the club just to set up a company with a similar name to Charlton Athletic? Would have thought that the problem would only come if you started trading in a way that conflicted with the club's business (like the looooong Apple Corps vs Apple Computers thingy). Maybe the curtains blokey wants to do something with the club and has set the company up as a first step....

Edit: I wonder how far protection on club names actually goes? E.g. FC United of Manchester have a VERY similar name to Manchester United, do the same thing (run a football club), used Man U's colour scheme, and seem to have been set up with the sole purpose of nicking Man U's existing customers! How do they get away with it...?
  • Very curious I must say.
  • Iiiiinnnnnnnnteresting
  • I heard the faintest of whispers that things were happening this week, but (fortunately apparantly) didn't materialise. I will not say more, because it was a mere whisper, perhaps others know more than me.

  • Pretty sure it wasn't Noel Whelan with Wise last week.

Faint whisper? Probably just trapped wind.
  • I too heard this week was supposedly the week

    Apparently it hasn't happened
  • It's interesting that several of you have heard this "whisper" but am intrigued by Seths "fortunately apparently" can anyone throw any further light onto that aspect and does it fit in with Red in SE8 sleuthing out a new registered company bearing our name ?
  • red se8, the person you have mentioned has alink up with charlton bringing through youngsters from essex

The whisper included the notion that the latest interested parties were less than wholesome, but they were prepared to take things over. The financial basis I don't know at all.
  • Haha....latest takeover news...I've just been tweeted by jacworth with the message..' Dennis Wise to buy charlton this week'....not sure what's more disturbing Dennis wise at charlton or the fact that I'm being followed by jacworth
  • If Wise was involved it could only be as a front. He doesn't have access to that kind of money. But who exactly are his backers ? If it's true of course which I very much doubt.
  • I would doubt that Dennis Wise is being backed by anyone, (with his track record would anyone sane lend him money to buy a club?) more likely he's working on behalf of a consortium.
