[cite]Posted By: jazzyjazzyjazzy[/cite]How can anybody not give parky credit?!
I give him credit for finally realising that performances were not acceptable (MKD, D&R, Huddersfield, Brentford, Exeter, Oldham etc), speaking to the team and addressing those issues. Still don't think he's a particularly good manager though. Or would you rather I changed my opinion as often as the wind as some do ?

I think people are giving him credit for the last 3 performances but the point is it's only 3 games.
Have we turned a corner? Maybe, but on past experience it's usually followed by another 2 in the same direction and we end up back where we started.
The signs from the last 3 games are promising and it shows that we have the ability in the side. Promotion is the only objective for me this season and it is going to take more than 3 good performances to get us there.
No need to change opinion no, but its just that he has made the perfect response to the loss with Brighton, so in that respect should deserve all the praise in the world, everything is good at the moment, league positon, performances, scorelines, you gotta remember that we was all worried about these tough games and all thinking we wouldnt even pick up 5 points, now look at it all. Good times!
If you are saying he should have 2-3 games you are in essense still giving him a chance - he has taken that chance and we should give him credit for it. We will never know but there may even have been a small chance he would have been sacked had Benson not scored the winner at Carlisle. I'm delighted for him and have backed him consistently although this season I wasn't seeing the team move in the right direction and I believed tactics played a part in that so it was reasonable I think to be critical. He has certainly silenced my criticisms of late. As I have said before- it isn't so much getting 3 consecutive wins but it's the balance we have suddenly found. When was the last time we had this balance in the side- it was so long ago I can't remember. That is what is so encouraging and now we have found it I don't expect Parky to throw it away.
I had said nothing against him prior to the Brighton game. My attitude changed after that game. I was very worried by our tactical naivety in that game. We did nothing to change and basically seemed to accept our fate.
Fair play to him and the team for turning it round, but lets not get too carried away just yet. Carlisle and Swindon were both missing a number of key players.
Really hope this doesnt turn out to be a false dawn, as I'm starting believe the comment I made at the Orient game which was " I believe this squad is potentially stronger than last year".
Dont forget he has also donw this before, he had the strongest start to a season in CHarltons history last yr, he has said all along that the players need to gel and fingers crossed, they look like they have galled a bit...
Benson is doing it, Joe is doing, wagstaff is doing, Jackosn is doing and no fianlly the defence seems to be doing it and the centre core of racon(lloks like a different player) and semedo seem to be doing it... so if we can have a look again in three League games times, well we might just start looking likely...
Is there a common theme here perhaps which is the same as last year where we rolled over all the decent sides but really struggled against the bottom clubs?
I think the big big difference is Asinyah - Has he had a bad game for us? Even when not fully fit- he has always been a handful. This ultimately changes the whole dynamic of the side. We now terrify defenders where as before I think they were reasonably comfortable.
[cite]Posted By: Elthamaddick[/cite]Happy to eat some humble pie here, I'll admit I wanted him gone after the Brighton game.
Keep it up Phil
Me too. (Although I wanted him gone at start of the season).
Very fickle I know but I suppose football is a results business and cant fault the last 3 or the manner of bouncing back after Brighton when he was almost out of the door which must have been a hell of a lot of pressure for him.
Well done Parkinson and the team. Dont expect us to go up this year but the fact it's not the pipe dream I thought it would be at the start of the season and past couple of months means he is doing a lot right obviously.
As somebody else has already mentioned, were in this division for a reason, we have the standard of manager that is Parky (no disrespect whatsoever) for this reason. I just wish that Charlton fans would ease off a little bit, it always seems like were on edge, Charlton win - were brilliant (not that im saying we haven't been brilliant in the last 3 games) and if we lose its Parky out bla bla bla! I wish we could just get behind him no matter what and support him, were all in this together, but it seems people just seem to hold this grudge against him and it does have a knock on effect!
Parky is a Charlton man, he is a nice bloke, something that people get knocked for, when using it as an excuse to keep him. I'm proud to have him as our manager, he may not make the best tactical decisions. He takes an awful lot of stick and in return not very much praise! He HAS made some good signings, look at our bench last night......any one of those players could have come on and been more than competent in their position. He is slowly, and when I say slowly, i mean he is in this for the long run, building his team! So booers, get off his back even when we do lose and get behind!
Its about time Parky had an E I E I E I O up the football league we go when we win promotion this is what we sing, we are charlton, we are charlton PARKY IS OUR KING.
Ooooo but we wouldnt sing that would we booers???!!!
I hope your right Muttley!I just think it shows us up when we sing it, every other team in the football league have their manager sung on the end of it!It shows our belief or lack of should i say, in our manager up completely!!
I'm not going to get carried away with this. I hope Parky and the team continue to be successful but the only difference between now and the Brighton defeat is we have found a bit of form and confidence. He's still the same manager with the same players. The rollercoaster will continue until the end of the season as it always does at cafc. Where Parky does get it spot on is in keeping his emotions on an even keel.
The last three results provides Parky with credibility to carry on.
It can just as easily go pear shaped pretty quickly, or hopefully will continue.
While it has quieted the call for his head, in no way should he be getting a new contract during the season.
That needs to wait until we see whether Charlton gets promoted or not.
If Charlton go up, he will have earned a new contract.
If we don't, then we shouldn't be saddled with him simply because we still must pay next year.
Let that decision wait.
If the positive results continue and the ultimate goal of promotion is achieved, that will take care of itself.
Marcus Garvey once said "you are not going to know yourself until your back is against the wall".
After Brighton both Parky AND the players knew that feeling and they reacted. We can carry on the Parky is or isn't debate forever (and it seems like we already have) but one thing.
Parky was NOT solely responsible for what happened v Brighton. Those players on the pitch have to take a huge chunk of responsibility.
Why? Because they were on the pitch and they were the ones not doing their jobs. And what has been proved in previous and subsequent games is that they are NOT poor players, nor are they lazy, don't care or over paid. They just didn't do their jobs.
And that for me is worse because they are GOOD players. Parky has built his own team and they let him down. He's the manager and he should be making sure that doesn't happen but they LET HIM DOWN.

Good point, well made, and the good thing is that Parky seems to have been able to get that through to them and get a response
