Two Cup games coming up, do we rest players?

  • 4 games in 12 days. I think you have to rest players and I would do so in the JPT.

We should deffo start with the same line ups, someone said earlier we were gathering momentum and thats right, its to early to worry about injuries. Make the changes in the respective matches when need be. If we were to make one change i would suggest Dailly for Fortune, but these guys are professionals and i want to see us progress in both matches.

[cite]Posted By: Bedsaddick[/cite]Absolutely not. Keep the same team . If i turn up at Barnet on saturday only to find we have the stiffs on the pitch and we get beat AGAIN in the cup by a crap side , i wont be happy!

I was thinking the same thing.

    THIS IS SO TRUE,
  • Its true it would be a good day out playing apremiership club but I think the FA cup had a bad effect on Leeds last season and we know we can't win it. The JPT we can win so I would focus on that although League has to be so much more a priority I cant put it into words. Would be good to see some fringe players on Saturday and agree with the comment that we can keep our basic shape - replace Asinyah and Sodje with Abbott and Benson.
  • I'm never convinced by changing the team for cup games, especially if you are on a roll. By all means rest players who are struggling with a few niggles or bring a player in who needs a game, but keep as much of the team together as possible.

Look at Northwich Victoria last season - out went Burton and in came McLeod as striker. Anyone think that giving McLeod a game as sole striker made any sense, either then or now?
  • Rest a few players for the Barnet game by all means but play the strongest possible team for the Southend game. We can win the JPT and a day out at Wembley will be a huge boost for the fans and club.

It didn't make sense no, but I'm not convinced that is comparable with giving Abbott/Sodje a run up front. Neither of them are anywhere near as bad as McLeod and could do a job up front on their own or in a partnership.
  • No big changes but players like Semedo and Doc have played almost every game since August so would bring in McCormack- he'll especially want to play against Southend and Fortune- who was perhaps a little unlucky to be dropped but could do with some game time.

Both games are important and should not be taken lightly- trip to Wembley is possible in the JP whilst there is potentially a nice pay day in the FA Cup. Can't see Parky taking either game too lightly.

    Change on Tuesday.

Not sure why people want to rest Dailly, Semedo and Wagstaff as they are by far our fittest triumvirate
Just because someone is fit it won't prevent them from injury or suspension or becoming fatigued later in the season, Michael Owen was as fit as a wippet early in his career, but increasingly picked up niggling injuries as a result of being played into the ground by Houlier.
  • Parky please do not change the team, if you do and something goes wrong you will be on a hiding to nothing....if you dont change it and something goes wrong you will also be on a hiding to nothing :)
  • Yes, please!!

(Seriously, it won't matter vs us, do if you like we have absolutely zero chance of getting anything from this game regardless).

  • Just goes to show how hard parky, or any managers, job is.

People have suggested a number of different options all of which have their virtues and their downsides.

Truth is only he and the other coaches really know who needs a rest, who needs more games, whose needs the boost of a starting place for once and who is happy to sit out as well as which players compliment each other or maybe need to learn more about playing alongside someone else.

But as Choice says if it goes "wrong" in anyway he'll be blamed and 20/20 hindsight will be used to condemn him.

Someone from Northwich says exactly the same thing this time last year.
  • Barnet are currently my local side and are my second side and I do keep a close eye and have a few friends that go - so unfortunately in some respects, I think our second string would deal with them easily enough at the moment.
  • I asked this question at the Bromley meeting a few months back, after our woeful, display in the laegue cup, and FA cup farce last year.

Parky claimed that the Chairman would not be in favour!., so I got the impression that he would take the cup games seriously.
  • Alot to be said for momentum. 3 wins on the trot has the chance of becoming 5. We then ride into Peterborough on the crest of a wave. Minimal changes please. Fortune for Dailly, Worner for Elliot and maybe Solly for Francis.

I knew I'd remembered that from somewhere. I think he said something like the Chairman had let him know how much the club could do with the potential money it could bring in if we had a cup run.
  • I'd change the side for anybody carrying a niggle, on 4 yellows or in need of a rest.

For example Rob Elliot still has elbow problems according to Saturday's programme.
Semedo has also got a few yellows and The Doc has played every league game.

They are the sort of changes I'd consider making.
  • I'd play the current side at Barnet and only make changes if anyone is tired or carrying an injury but keep the same formation. For Southend same again but maybe bring in a couple of fringe players if the coaches think they need some match time - Fortune, Mac, Abbott, Solly
  • Someone posted about whether Martin could play against Barnet.

    The same applies to Fry.

  • Parky said before that the whole squad is going to be used in this up and coming games but then he also hinted that we need to keep this form going and the only way we properly can is keeping the same side, its a problem but a very good problem to have. :-)
  • WE must make some changes with the aim of giving most players a rest in one of the 2 games.
I won't be happy if we win at barnet and southend with a full squad and then get beat at Pboro cos they are all knackered and injured. Time for the likes of mccormack, fortune and abbot to step up to the plate.

I personally would rather a trip to wembley in JPt than an extra couple of rounds in fac up

True enough but Murray is probably hoping for a real money-spinning FAC tie with Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal, Spurs with the home-leg at The Valley ending in a draw and then a lucrative replay away from home.

I am pretty sure that Exeter City saved themselves from extinction by earning more than 600,000 pounds from their tie against Manchester United in 2008 - that is a shit-load of money in our current position and could even allow us to bring in more players in the transfer window.

You won't earn that much in the JPT!!!
  • Keep the momentum! Give dailey and doc a rest though

That depends entirely on getting one of 7 or 8 clubs in a random draw. We could just as easily get knocked out by Wigan. Blackburn, or Doncaster away, with nowhere near as much money or TV coverage.

Carlisle got about £500k from their run in the JPT last season. Southampton around £1m, as far as I know.

Added to any potential gate revenue for a big away trip would be very very useful
  • So now we're going to beat Man Utd away??

For every Man Utd, there are three Wigans.
  • Do you really think we will be 3rd round winners. By that time it is mostly premier and champs clubs and has already been said only about 8 out of the 63 possible draws wouls generate any real revenue - although i know every bit helps.
And I'm not saying we go out to lose. We ought to be able to beat barnet with half a dozen changes
