This year we won't go up and we won't go down, but we'll be nearer the bottom than the top
There certainly is a scenario in which we could go down.
Let us suppose those who are telling us that RM will not sack Parkinson before the end of his contract are correct.
And let us suppose that come January it is clear we are not going to be pushing for promotion but are likely to finish in the bottom half.
At that point everyone will realise that Parkinson is not going to get his contract renewed come the end of the season, and so we will be managed by a dead man walking.
In that scenario, it is very possbile that an anticipated lower mid-table 14th/15th/16th finish collapses swiftly into a bottom four finish.
If Parky stays and we fail to mount a promotion push, I wouldn't be so sure that we'd end up in the safe part of the bottom half at all. The 'dead man walking' effect could well make it more probable that we'd finish 21st rather than in our current 14th place.
So how's this for a possible scenario : Murray can't afford to replace Parky so tells him he's here until the end of the season. Come the beginning of March we're in 18th place and in genuine danger of relegation. RM suddenly realises that our chances of staying up under a manager everyone knows will be out of the job in June are slim, and is forced to pay him off three months early and bring in someone to save us from divison four.
Can any of you put your hand on your heart and say we're too good for that too happen???
From what i've seen this season we certainly don't look too good to go down - this isn't knee jerk, i've been saying it for a while - it doesn't please me to say it but we are bad.
[cite]Posted By: LargeAddick[/cite]I am amazed people still say hive parky a chance. When he took over we were third bottom of the championship just three points adrift. We went down rock bottom about twelve points adrift. Then with one of the best budgets in league one and hanging onto Bailey Shelvey etc we fail to even get to wembley. But it's not his team some say. But now it is his team and we are going backwards. How far do we have to fall for some of you to be happy? Maybe some of you want to see us in league two, that is where we are headed. Get rid now to at least give someone a chance to turn the season around and at least try for a play off place. Wait too much longer and you are not giving anyone else a fair crack of the whip.
Completely agree. It's been apparent that he was the wrong choice since the famous trial period was a failure. One excuse after another comes up. I can't see many other teams being so patient with a manager who has brought nothing but failure after failure.
[cite]Posted By: stonemuse[/cite]Out of interest, Spanners had 18 points from 13 games at this stage last season ... we have 16 points from 12 so not much difference.
also at this stage last season,
southend had 17 pts
gillingham and stockport both had 14.

NLA is correct
It's a results driven business and our results since he took over are not good enough.
He got us relegated
He failed to get us up

I don't care if we don't have any money - we gave him an extended contract - why?
It's his coaching of definitely "better players on paper" that is so appalling.
Brighton and Poyet, with a 36 year old Kishishev gave us the run around at home in a vital, must win game....
He's just not a very good manager - review his complete record as a manager - not good enough.......

Parky gets rewarded with a new contract for finishing 20th and saving us from relegation!

so not much difference there either.
