  • bloody hell, poor fella. cant say the future looks great for our Kelly.
  • No great surprise in my opinion.

He will run his decent Pardew inflated contract down then start elsewhere fully fit next season. Even Cory Gibbs is playing regularly now according to another thread recently after two years swinging the lead under Dowie, Reed and Pardew.

I didn't think Youga was that kind of guy but hey ho.

Don't know when he's contract is up but I presume it's at the end of this season....

Whoever wrote that article knows how to piss me off..."similar to the injury Cory Gibbs suffered", grrr more money the club can ill afford on both wages and operations....

What do you expect him to do Len?
  • Same problem as Cory Gibbs and the same injury that effectively ended Michael Vaughan's cricketing career.
  • Contracts up at the end of the season so bye kelly! :(

He is entitled to run his contract down I guess and on reflection perhaps I've been harsh to Kelly and it is the usual misleading "only out for a few weeks" bollocks we get on the OS which I should be berating.

We have had so many of these scenarios from Garry Poole onwards at Charlton. Why isn't the OS honest with us?
  • I think we need to start playing Fry there regularly or get a left-back in on loan as I don't really feel comfortable with Jackson playing there for the whole season.

Why did we buy a chronically injured player?

I heard that he played a reserve game for us a couple of weeks ago. Not sure whether it was true or not.

There are previous quotes on the OS from Parkinson (unless history is rapidly being rewritten) effectively saying that the injury is in Kelly's head.
  • He also declared himself available for Millwall away last season despite not being fully fit. Alwaqys comes across as a top man in the interviews with him that I've read, and certainly not a money grabber.

Hope we've not seen the last of him in a Charlton shirt.

so you think Kellys is assesing his own injury Len?...this is a huge decision and has obviously come from several qualified parties.
  • This will ceretainly frustrate Parkinson but no great surprise imho. Shame though......i think he could have made a big difference and we would have seen the best of Jackson in midfield

how did gibbs swing the lead? he was injured.

Why did we buy a chronically injured player?

WE didn't Curbishley did (and before you say it the deal was agreed before he left). He wasn't chronically injured when he came and he was fit near the very end of his time with us but Pardew choose not to play him.

It's bad luck. Why did Man utd buy a "chronically injured" Owen Hargreaves or Michael Owen? Its a risk buying any player and sometimes it comes off (Mendonca had loads of previous injuries and was finished by one) and sometimes it doesn't.

If Parky said "it's in his head" then he got it badly wrong or are you saying he was right and the operation was unnecessary.
  • [cite]Posted By: I-SAW-POUSO-PLAY[/cite]Bring Borrowdale back.

Would be delighted if he came back. Very solid, and would free up Jackson to move into a centre-midfield/left wing option.

  • The injury might have been in Youga's head but now he has been diagnosed by someone who probably knows what he is talking about and has a chondral defect on his knee?

So how can he be that sort of player to just run his contract down? He may never play again for all we know, and even if we did get him to sign a new contract people would complain about resigning a injury prone player with our limited resources.

Feel for Youga as he was playing his best football before the tackle which didn't seem that bad at the time.
  • I cannot find the specific article on the OS now but Parky says something along the lines of: Kelly is in France and we haven't heard from him. The speciallist over here says that there is now nothing physically wrong but Kelly disagreed and went to see his own man in France.

As I said above perhaps on reflection I was harsh to blame Kelly rather than misleading reports on the OS talking about "in training" and "back in a few weeks." Certainly the need for an operation does indeed suggest a physical problem.

Youga is a player I've always liked and vigorously defended when he became a scapegoat on here as the archives will bear out.
  • Massive shame.
Hope to see the club stick with him.
    Top man!
  • Shame.but Jackson is more than capable and fry Looks good too
  • Shame for Kelly and a shame for us too as I'd prefer him over Jackson and Fry. Will the club now try to settle his contract up early so allowing him to return to France to continue his rehab where he's probably happiest and where he seems to trust the doctors more. I can't see us ever seeing him in a Charlton shirt again and it must be doubt ful if he'll ever play again. Good luck for the future Kelly.
  • [cite]Posted By: LenGlover[/cite]Pardew inflated contract
We can blame the fox for many things, but it seems amazing to me that he'd carry the can for the contract of a player signed by his predecessor's predecessor's predecessor. Surely the board agrees the amount to pay players? In this case we can't even use the argument that they were mislead by a manager because he was at the club under 4 of them.
  • Has there been a club more unluckier with injuries than us?

Off the top of my head i can think of Poole, Rowett, Matty Holmes, Andy Hunt, Cory Gibbs, Youga. Even Mendonca was forced to retire because of his hip.

Although Curbishley signed Youga, his contract expired and he signed a new deal in Jan 2008 (or thereabouts) when Pardew was manager. The accounts bear evidence of the ridiculous wages to turnover ratio under Pardew so, in my view, it is very probable that Youga is one of our high earners.
  • Another one to add to the 'this club is sodding cursed' list.

No surprise to me, said in May i doubt we would ever see him again and its looking pretty certain now. Had he got back to fitness, i'm sure we would have offloaded him in jan to get his wages off the books anyway.

So footballing wise, i don't see it having much impact.

The real impact is once again we've picked up another of these long-term injuries that ends up being a financial weight around our necks, and another non-performing chunk of the wagebill taken. Don't know how insurance works in football, but is the anyway we can claim back the wages ?

I would like Fry to be our first choice LB. He looks a good player in the making. I don't feel that Jackson looks as sharp as he did during his loan spell with us. I would also like to see him play in midfield and become an important part of the playing 11.
