  • Some very generous marking. Possibly the worst I've seen Charlton play and win. The outcome of the game shouldn't effect the ratings given.

    Elliot - 8
    Francis - 5
Fry - 4 - if Llera had played like that everyone would've gone mental
    Doherty - 6
    Jackson - 5
    Martin - 7
    McCormack - 4.5
    Semedo - 4.5
    Reid - 5
    Abbott - 4.5
    Benson - 4.5

    Racon - 5.5
    Sodje - 6
    Anyinsah - 7
  • Elliot - 7.5
    Francis - 7
Fry - 8 Amazing how different people see it but I thought he was our best player.
    Doherty - 7
    Jackson - 6
    Martin - 6.5
    McCormack - 5
    Semedo - 7
    Reid - 6
    Abbott - 5
    Benson - 5

    Racon - 7
    Sodje - 7
    Anyinsah - 7.5

I don't often comment on markings, but to give Fry a 4 is just ridiculous.

I thought Hughes gave him a torrid time, given he missed 2 sitters and a penalty which Fry brought someone (Davies?) down for. Distribution no good either - a criticism always levelled at Llera. Often climbed all over the back of Hughes.
  • Elliot - 8.5 MoM
Francis - 7 OK defensively, need to see more going forward, but liked his attitude in prog interview
Fry - 8 The main bright spot - looked far more composed than his number of pro games would suggest
    Doherty - 7
    Jackson - 7
Martin - 7 Needs more end product, and to add a bit more guile to the Johnny Robinson attitude!
    McCormack - 5 anonymous
    Semedo - 7
Reid - 7.5 Nice to see him last 90 mins
Abbott - 5 not clicking yet
    Benson - 5 as above

Racon - 6 marginally better than Mac
Sodje - 7 gave extra impetus
Anyinsah - 8 just for the goal - smart finish
  • I'm with you MLC, if it wasn't for the pen Fry would have been my man of the match.

I always when compiling the stats strip out what i perceive to be stupid, reactionary marks. Appears as if more and more people are voting this way as some of the listed above is just pure ridiculous. if it gets to the point where i feel the need to strip out more than just the odd mark, i don't really see any point in continuing it to be honest.

Given Llera gets hammered every week for mistakes I felt that Fry made, I can't quite understand why everyone thought he did so well. No outstanding blocks or tackles; nowhere to be seen when Hughes missed an open goal from 1 yard, a lob and had a low shot from wide on the right in the second half. I realise the rest of the defence are also at fault for these incidents, but Fry gave away the penalty as well after a huge error by Reid.

It's not a reactionary mark, I'm just calling it how I saw it. Some players are being marked down based on people's preconceived opinions that certain players aren't very good - happens with Francis and Llera every week.

Another thing is that people automatically mark higher when we win and lower when we lose. The result shouldn't effect how players are rated, hence why my ratings are low even though we won as it was a poor performance.
  • Elliot - 8.5 much better all round. Good handling - great penno save and commanded his area well against a tough opponent and aerial bombardment
Francis - 7 best game so far. hopefully settling down
Fry - 8 Is he really only 19? excellent prospect and looked like a man. Shame about the penno otherwise my MOM
Doherty - 7 Did what he had to do but lack of mobility sometimes worries me
Jackson - 6 Clearly not a left back but an able deputy. Just don't think we get the best out of him there
Martin - 7 Energy and pace but went missing for a while.
McCormack - 5 Not at the races at all. Not a good day but I am not going to write him off like some.
Semedo - 7.5 I thought he worked hard again and won a lot of ball as usual. Passing neat and tidy as usual
Reid - 6.5 When he runs at people he's dangerous but didn't do it enough for me. Greedy with one shot - annoyed me a lot that did!
Abbott - 5 Shocking first touch and didn't look fit. There is a good and useful player in there so I am not worried BUT he was poor Saturday
Benson - 5 Ran the channels but needs time to learn Abbot's game and vice versa

Racon - 7 Neat and tidy as usual but minus his wayward passing. Good performance
Sodje - 7 No frills. No flair. Love his attitude though!
Anyinsah - 7.5 Well taken goal and but himself about a bit. Much stockier than I expected and I really liked what I saw

All in all it was a tough game against an organised and physical side. They kept changing their formation which confused us in the middle switching from 442 to 433 (diamond) almost at will meaning there always seemed to be someone closing us down forcing us to hoof it long and play into the hands of their defenders. No surprise that a nice passing move opened them up and led to the winner.

We will improve and we need to. Abbot and Benson need more game time together but Sodje and Anyinsah also showed they might be on a similar wavelength too
  • Elliot - 8
Francis - 7 - thought he was reasonably good - think others are influenced by his previous performances
Fry - 7.5 - excellent against one of the most difficult stikers (not best) in the division to mark
    Doherty - 7
Jackson - 5 - thought he was the weak link in our defence
    Martin - 6.5 - worked out
McCormack - 5.5 - not as bad as some make out - but certainlyy doesnt balnce Jose
    Semedo - 6.5
Reid - 4- and i thought sam was frustrating . the number of times he gave the ball away in our own half was criminal eg the penalty totally down to his schoolboy error
    Abbott - 5 - not preforming yet
Benson - 5.5 - still optimistic but not happening yet

    Racon - 6.5
Sodje - 7 - why doesnt he try like this all the time
Anyinsah - can't give him a mark - i think he only had 1 kick - but perhaps that means I give him 10 ( not really)
  • right for starters i didn't go but was a bit bemused at some of the scoring for our players so i have asked my mate who went who is not charlton for his perspective score as follows:

Elliot - 7, cracking couple of saves but his kicking left a bit to be desired
    Francis - 5 didn't really notice him
Fry - 3, was ok in the air due to his height but couldn't handle Hughes.
    Doherty - 6, consistent
    Jackson - 5 didn't really notice him
Martin - 7, drew defenders in, crosses were more or less spot on
    McCormack - 5 didn't really notice him
Semedo - 6, caught in possession on several occassions
Reid - 7, worked very hard, first touch often wasn't very good
Abbott - 5, didn't link up well with Benson
    Benson - 5, see above

Racon - 4, just about knew he was playing
Sodje - 8, did more in 10 mins than Abbot and Benson did throughout the whole game.
Anyinsah - 7, scored a cracking goal but only played for about ten mins

Unsure whether this will count towards our ratings but i think its good to get another perspective, he is a Gills fan but doesn't mind charlton

Your friend is clearly a baboon.
This is very very wrong indeed

bit harsh, its a neutral's point of view and something different that said he probably marked Fry down for giving away penalty but he has put why aswell so kindly dis-agree although i wasn't at the match its one of my good mates who is not a baboon thanks!
  • Elliot - 8 Strong and confident even before the vital pen save
Francis - 6 PLayed his part in a clean sheet but I'm still concerned by how often he's not goal-side of his man
Fry - 7 Had to take one off for the pen but did v well
    Doherty - 7 Usual no-frills solid defence
Jackson - 6.5 Doing a fine job filling in at lb even if it's limiting his chances to express himself
Martin - 8 He & Reid were our main threats throughout. Tenacious and skillful
McCormack - 5 Seemed off the pace so prob right to switch at ht
Semedo - 7 As Doc really
Reid - 8 Constant threat who also works hard and chases back if he gives it away
Abbott - 4 Better after ht when it was hopefully pointed out how much more he needed to do. Very low-key 1st half. Needs to up work rate and "nuisance" value.
Benson - 5.5 Not outstanding but beavered away & some useful headed flicks again. Prob needs pen box service to really thrive.

Racon - 6 Bit more positive than McCrormack without really having a big impact
Sodje - Won't mark him on 10 mins but thought he worked really hard - Abbott please take note
Anyinsah - As above. Well taken goal, the sort of unfussy routine finish that we haven't seen enough of. Also busy back around our box to help see it out.

  • Elliot - 8 MOM Clean sheet, excellent saves, good distribution and pen save, says it all.
Francis - 6.5 Slightly better, but I feel he does not like to take responsibility.
Fry - 7.5 Given his inexperience he played well, impressed.
Doherty - 7 Seems he will be pretty consistent this season.
Jackson - 7 he takes a decent dead ball/set piece.
Martin - 7.5 I would not like to defend against him, always tries.
McCormack - 6 Was he ill?
Semedo - 7 Good overall, typical showing.
Reid - 6.5 Fades away late in matches, drops deep and causes us defensive problems.
Abbott - 6.5 Not that impressive.
Benson - 6.5 Not that impressive.

    Racon - 7 OK,better than mac
Sodje - 7 tried very hard, played a part in the goal.
Anyinsah - 7.5 Great vignette, scored, must start at Tranmere instead of either Abbott or Benson

Officials 5, poor in consistency, and keeping up with play.

Notts County 7 Decent side who tried to play
Parkinson 7.5 Three points, good timing of subs.

Notts Fans 6.5 Got better through the game.
Us 6.5 We didn't rip into the team.
