Datsun Sunny 120Y. Purchased as a 17year old from Belmont Car auctions, is that place still going? Got it the day after I passed my test and can remember bricking it driving it home through the Blackwall Tunnel on my own as that was the first time going solo as it where. In a crappy metalic brown colour...and I mean that in the literal sense.
In 1964 I piled my dad's pride and joy, a Renault Caravelle, into another motor so had to find something quickly to rum him about in whilst it was being fixes. He didn't fancy riding pillion on my Triumph Bonneville {it was my Rocker period) and I ended up acquiring a 1957 Morris Minor for £90 . Although only 8 years old your average saloon wasn't built to last in those days and 118 MMM certainly had its share of rust. I fitted flashers to it as the old semaphore arms didn't work and, more importantly, put a recon. engine in it. It did a lot of miles before the rot really did for her. I drove over a bump one day and there was a loud bang and I looked at the floor and saw the rear suspension leaf spring had come through the floor. 'Not good' I thought and carefully drove round to a mate's place to see if he could weld it.. Unfortunately he couldn't find anywhere to weld a plate to, the rust was so bad. I managed to sell it to a bloke who was after a decent engine. Odd to think that all 3 vehicles are now considered 'classics' and worth a few bob, especially the Bonnie as they're fetching around eight grand these days!
My first car was a 1959 austin A35. Cost me £43 in 1969 wnen I was 17 and 1 day . I had saved the money from doing my paper round. It would never start, I was cranking the engine for 3 months before I realised I should have pulled the choke out
My first car was a 1953 Austin A70 Hereford - cost me £15.00 and £17.10 shillings to insure for third party fire and theft as a learner driver. Those were the days
Vauxhall Astra Mk1 1.3 in a dark olive green with brown and beige interior.
It had been my Grandad's since new and he'd had it converted to run on Unleaded instead of Leaded Petrol so was slower than Llera on the turn and had absolutely zero street cred.
Thing is though, none of my mates had one and if you thrashed it it was great fun, because you were always on the ragged edge, even if you were only doing 30! I absolutely effin loved it - much more than my current extremely capable but terribly dull Golf Estate company car.

Great car NLA. No powersteering, manual choke, almost totally devoid of creature comforts but bags of character - only me and my grandad could get it to start - the old girl needed carressing and sweet nothings whispering in her ear. I know that's not how Astras are perceived, and they are probably very middle of the road, but it was my first and I loved it.
Learning to drive was the best thing I did in my younger years (apart from hook up with my then girlfriend, know wife) - the sense of freedom and excitement of having my own motor - days at the seaside, following the Addicks away, evenings out and going on holidays with my Girlfriend without having to cadge lifts off the Olds. I loved that car because it changed my life really, especially living in a small town in a rural county where the public transport links are next to non-existent.
Snap bud all my pals had escorts or fiestas I had this old girl of An astra and she was tempremental but was a great girl once warmed up
Couldn't wait to drive just being able to get in the car fill it up with petrol and go anywhere I wanted when wanted was properly the best thing I done as a teenager
My first car, which I still have, is a maroon Merc A Class. It's got a Charlton scarf in the back window, which is the only part of the car I'm interested in.

I remember most of mine, but I haven't had that many cars considering how long I've been driving.
