Obviously missing Semedo is a blow, but I thought before last night that we could win this one, and am not going to let an implosion alter my opinion. I think it will be a tight and hard-fought affair but can see us pulling through either 2-0 or 2-1. For some reason I fancy McCormack to get on the scoresheet (probably more hope than anything!), and either Abbott or Doc with t'other. As for the team i think it will be Abbott and Martin upfront. I think Parky will start with Wagstaff again with Solly at RB, and if its not working for Waggy he can either put Francis on at RB and move solly to RM, or drop Martin to RM and stick big Akpo up with Abbott. If Fry is fit (or half fit) another alternative is to bring him on at some stage at LB, move Jackson to LM and have Reid move over to Waggy's position (though i wouldnt like to see that as i prefer Reid on the left).

I'm guessing its gonna be an embarassing non league turnout below 1500 but there'll be a lot of crying when we play dag and red cos it'll be a new ground for a few
and the same people who say they are only interested in watching charlton fail to add that they are only interested in watching charlton when it's at a new ground for them .....[/quote]

Obviously people are excited at the idea of seeing lots of goals after last night;-)
Semedo is a big loss, it's on TV and it's on Fri 13th. All the omens against us. I'd be very happy with a draw.
[cite]Posted By: Red_in_SE8[/cite]Another big error by Parky last night. I just cannot understand the logic, when trying to gel 5 or 6 new players into the team, of not taking every opportunity to give as many games as possible to your first choice starting line-up. Especially this early in the season when what the players need more than anything is competitive games under their belt.
Disagree. There was clear logic in what Parky did.
The players do need time to gel (let's hope that is taken into consideration when reflecting on the Orient result) but to have played the entire "first" team after most had played 30 mins with 10 men on Saturday with another league game on Friday would have been reckless.
[cite]Posted By: Red_in_SE8[/cite]
However, in doing what he did he may have stumbled onto something. When was the last time two Charlton strikers scored 3 goals between them away from home and apparently linked up well on many occasions last night. Surely these two have played themselves straight into the starting line-up on Friday.
Sorry but that is terrible spin. How has he "stumbled onto something". He bought both Abbott and Martin to the club very recently and then played them together at the first real opportunity. It seems to have worked as PLANNED by Parky. He may have done it on Saturday by bringing Martin off the bench if not for the sending off. He was unlikely to start Martin v Bournemouth as he has only joined us the day before.
[cite]Posted By: Red_in_SE8[/cite]What possible reason could he have for not selecting these two to start on Friday night?
you may agree or disagree but there could be a number of reasons; Sodje's match winning performance on Saturday, the poor performance of Wagstaff necessitating Martin playing wide right and the strengths and weaknesses of the Orient side to give but three.
Sorry, but having to rest the first team after the first game of the season is ridiculous! That is my opinion and no one can spin an argument that could make me change my mind on that. But you can try. Maybe there is something in what Jonjo says about the very light weight training regime Parky seems to employ.
It is quaint that you think Parky has a team of scouts who tracked Abbot and Martin last season and then swooped to sign them up to, as he put it '..complete the jigsaw.' A bit like Cloughie in the 70s. I don't think he had any idea that those two would become available on loan or a cheap fee until he, along with a number of other managers in the Championship and League 1, were approached by the agents of those players. Again, I don’t know for certain, but it is my perception of how the transfer market works at this level, based on what I read in the press.
Whether he stumbled on it or planned it last night he saw the most effective front two pairing since his time as manager of the club. He has been struggling to find an effective strike force for nearly 2 years. You are right, there may be a number of reasons why he would choose not to continue with these 2 for the next few games. And you are also right in that I can choose to agree or disagree with those reasons. I certainly do not agree that the 3 reasons you have quoted are justification for not starting with them against Orient.

Resting is perhaps the wrong word. It was more like he was giving other players a run out and avoiding injuries and cards to the important players. Remember the match could have gone to extra time. Imagine if Reid was forced to play 120 minutes because the game went to ET and other injuries meant he couldn't be taken off. People would be going mad if he was then knackered on Friday just for the sake of a cup game.
[cite]Posted By: Red_in_SE8[/cite]Maybe there is something in what Jonjo says about the very light weight training regime Parky seems to employ.
Where did Jonjo say that? He said it was harder at Liverpool. Never said it was easy or very light weight at Charlton. And as said at that time, an 18 year old getting a big move to the club his hero plays for is going to be really excited about it and say how great it is.

No one will know, but it's pretty likely Parky and his team knew plenty about them. We know he looks at the players character, not just their ability. We know he has lists of players and his preferred targets. We also know some deals took a while to be finished for various reasons. No doubt there had been things going on with the Martin deal for a while.
As for the strikers I think we can all agree it's a good problem to have. When did we last have 3 strikers all with 1 or 2 goals in the last 2 games. Whichever combination he goes with there are obvious reasons why. Just a case of him picking the best one suited to the game on Friday and hopefully it proves to be a good decision.
Sorry but I can't agree with you E_A, sticking one of our better more creative players on the right is not the way forward. We came to realise this when Parky decided to stick Bailey out on the left. There isn't any logic behind it. We have naturally wide players this season, lets flamin' use them.
I hope Parky does start Martin and Abbot, but I can see him being loyal to Akpo and starting him with Abbot up top. If he does go with Akpo and Abbot hopefully he plays Martin on on the right in place of Wagstaff to give us that extra creativity we crave sometimes. 1-0 to us if Akpo starts up top, 3-0 to us if Abbot and Martin start up top
I got a feeling he will stick with akpo. Martin & abbot could be a deadly partnership. Would like to see them to up top friday. Hope he doesnt chuck solly on the left to accommodate francis at rb. If he starts with francis id rather he dropped solly all together than play him out of position
Incredibly harsh to drop Akpo after the perfomance vs Bournemouth in favour of two who started vs a league two club. Would stick with the same team that played vs Bournemouth ( bar Racon for Semedo)
As alluded to by others, I have a sneeky feeling that Sodje and Abbott will start up top, with Martin possibly replacing Wagstaff on the right.

"What would be a concern to me is if PP has (signed) two main centre backs that he doesn't feel are capable of playing two games a week (I know this is a funny week with a Friday match), in a league when we often have two games a week. Might be another one on the way, of course... "
@ mclovin...
I am sure he feels more than cofident in his first choice being able to play 2 games in a week, but just wont put them out there against irrelevnet opposition in irrelevent cup competitions, particular when we have bigger fish to fry and a game that is very important and actually means something on Friday....
sir chrissy are you serious? What happened when we had Bailey out on the left? Only a huge winning run and a large gathering of points which had us top with Leeds just behind!

Hello Chaps, Orient fan here. As you can see, I registered a while back when the fat welshman Williams was in charge, now we have a fat, bald northerner, however he is a far better manager!
I was quite surprised to see this game, the same fixture albeit different ground to the one 5 months or so ago on the telly, and neither of us do well on the box, our win last season being the first for a good 7 years or something.
Massive changes since then for us. New manager, Nicky Adams (the right winger who took you apart on the night at the Valley) is no longer with us (instead rotting in Leicester reserves - a shame) and we have 10 new players.
Matty Spring is our new Sean Thornton and tbh, the jury is out. He did this in pre-season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPArcRmgINU and usually does a few defence splitting balls every game but fades in and out. He is a perfect signging for Orient though where he is guaranteed to play every game and will probably chip in with some goals.
Elliot Omozuzi is our RB and while he is great going forward, he cannot defend for shit. Apparently it was the same at his last clubs.....Scotty McGliesh is still banging them in up front as well. Our best player is our captain Steve Dawson who was L2 player of the year last year with Bury who ALLGEDLY turned down you guys (as well as MK Dons and Swansea) to come to us, probably cos he was guaranteed games and the captaincy with us.
We lost miserably at Yeovil with two individual errors costing us the game, but we won at Swindon in the cup. Yay. Alex Revell has scored 2 in 2 which is odd cos he ain't prolific but will start tomorrow with Scotty. We have no width (playing a 4-3-3 and is typically Russell Slade-esqe hoofball with the odd bit of decent play in between).
Cos it's on telly, you obviously won't fill out the East Stand like you did last season, but cos that is the only stand in the ground with any atmosphere, 1000 will still create some racket. It is also opposite the telly cameras (being on the side) so you will be in full view of the watching public! We will have our customary 4300 odd fans, the telly doesn't really bother Orient fans, most prefer to go the game.
For what it's worth, our team will be:
Jamie Jones
Elliot Omozuzi - Terrell Forbes - Ben Chorley - Cestor Mike/Michael Liddle (Mike has never started a league game, Liddle is a loanee from Sunderland and one of the worst left backs I've ever seen)
Adam Chambers - Matt Spring - Stephen Dawson
Alex Revell - Scotty McGliesh - Dean Cox (who drops back into midfield quite a lot)
I think it'll be a 1-1 draw, Scotty for us, Abbott for you, and I will bite your hand off for that.

Agree, for me it's a simple decision, play the current best players:
Sodje, Abbott and Martin have all scored and played well in the last two games.
Wagstaff didn't play well v Bournemouth (not sure about Cup game?) drop him.
Like the look of that team - can't wait for tomorrow!!
