Bromley Addick- TONIGHT 7th Dec **Gritt, Walsh, Nelson & Bumstead plus a FORMER DIRECTOR )**

edited August 2010 in General Charlton
Hello All,

Bromley Addicks is the independent supporters' group for Addicks in Bromley and surrounding areas but we have always been happy to welcome Charlton fans from where ever they may be.

This year, as most years, we'll be holding six meetings. All but the last are open to anyone.

23 Sept 2010 AGM. Phil Parkinson, along with Tim Breaker, came back for his third visit. 100 fans turned up to question him. A really good night.

26 Oct 2010 Club Director David White The former PLC Director and life long fan will be making his first visit to Bromley Addicks. An excellent and forthright speaker, Dave also takes special responsibility for the Academy while actively supporting the Target 40k committee and the Fans' Forum. He will be joined by Managing Director Steve Kavanagh. Steve has been at the Club in various roles for over a decade but is now the senior executive at Charlton and also a member of the new board.

07 Dec 2010 ‘Back to the Valley’ Evening with Colin Walsh, Garry Nelson and John Bumstead and now also Steve Gritt Four stars of that day and the much loved 90s side.

25 Jan 2011 The 7th annual Bromley Pairs Quiz.

22 Mar 2011 Two Current players - We'll get the names nearer the time.

10 May 2011 All ticket meeting end of season meeting. Guest to be announced.

You don't have to be a member, you can just turn up and see if you like it or not. We're pretty sure if you do come along to one or two you see that it is worth the membership fee of £5 for adults, £3 for over 60’s and nothing for children up to 18 in full time education. But if not you are not obliged to pay a thing.

It is very informal and relaxed. You can ask questions if you want or just listen to the guests as they answer questions from others. There are normally a good number of Lifers there too so you can put names to faces.

Oh, and the bar is open.

And all the spare money we have goes back into the Football Club. This year we will be sponsoring another three players shirts (we've already got Johnny Jackson's and will add two more later) and sponsoring the Young Addicks Christmas Party so all the youngsters go away with a goodie bag this time.

We also bought a Valley Gold membership to support the academy. As you will have seen this backfired on us as we won £250 so now we have even more money to get rid off. We've decided to put some of it behind the bar at the AGM on 21 September.

See you there.

  • Excellent lineup for December. Well done. All real Charlton legends. I re-read Nelson's book a few months back and it's still one of the best football books out there. The 'Back to The Valley' game was my first ever game as a 5 year old! Great day.

Be good to ask Bumstead what he thought of being dropped and not playing in the game. Will try and get to both meetings.
  • bump.

And remember it is an open floor. Anyone can come along and any one can ask questions.

Raffle prize is likely to be one the sponsored shirts from last season, most likely Robbie Elliot's.

    See you all there.

    Agreed!

I'm re-reading it right now, first time for about 12 years.
I can't put it down, and I'm nearly 'through the season' all ready.

When I read some of the numpty comments posted on here about players, I can't help but think Garry Nelson's diary,
"Left Foot Forward" should be compulsory reading for all Charlton fans.

Not only is it a very good read about what it's like to be a footballer at Charlton, but Nelse let's you get inside his head and behind the scenes.

And it shows that players are just ordinary human beings, the same as you.
It's only their job that's different.

    Read it!
  • Next meeting

7th Dec 2010 ‘Back to the Valley’ Evening with Colin Walsh, Garry Nelson and John Bumstead and now also Steve Gritt - Four stars of that day and the much loved 90s side.

All welcome. Mince pies should be available.

We also hope to announce details of Bromley Addicks fund raising for the Academy so bring your cheque books.
  • Think I might pay this a visit, looks like a great night.

One question Henry - realise at the age of 30 that I should probably have grown out of this by now but is there any opportunity to get autographs? I've got a Back To The Valley programme (already signed by Nelse and Walshie but not by Gritty or John Bumstead) and a copy of the front page of The Mercury from 3 December '92 that I'd love to get signed.
  • Yes, very easy to get autographs.

The players aren't on a stage or similar, just in the room (and usually at the bar before and after).

We also have a break half way through when we do the raffle so most people ask then.
  • Brilliant. Looking forward to it.
  • By a strange syncronicity the day before we beat Peterborough 5 - 1 I take a phone call from the player who scored a hatrick the last time we put five passed the Posh.

Sir Garry of Nelson, for it was he, checking details for the Bromley Addicks meeting on 7 December.

    See you all there.

  • We are also lining up some auction prizes to add to our usual raffle prizes.

We really want to get to £600 for a set of tracksuits for one of the Academy teams.

We are half way there already (see the squeeze tickets thread) and we hope to have some items relevant to the guys coming along available on the night.

And the mince pies have been ordered so free food as well. What more could you want?
  • We had free beer at first meeting of season
  • Really hope to make this meeting, just hope it does not clash with a potential replay aginast against Luton or Corby (long shot I know).

Didn't realise that. Still at least people can put either/or in their diaries and know they will have something to do that night.

Not such a long short after all.

Apologies but we've had to postpone this one.

No new date set as yet but we hope to have the same guests with us early in 2011.
  • That's a bummer, Henry.

Still, there's Luton on the 7th and Parky in Bexley on the 9th.

Call yourself a supporters club, could have just replaced them with a live beamed feed from Kenilworth road!!! :-) (Not serious don't beat me up!!)
  • Hold that. All change.

I'm hoping Parky still makes the meeting. I won't be too impressed otherwise ;-)
