I think a fair few of us were bit surprised that we managed to secure him on a perm contract. He obviously needs a team like us who he can play 40+ games for to push his career. He is one the most exciting attacking players we have had for some time imo.
Totally agree, he is one of those rare breed of players (even rarer for us in recent times) who sets the pulse racing and the excitement levels soaring, a great capture by PP and a key player in our promotion bid. From day one with us last season he looked a real find. Long live Kyel Reid!
Think that Kyel will be a Charlton favourite, his first half performance was excellent, he faded a bit in the second half, but looks a footballer that could play in the Championship.
Seems like a great buy, I think we were fortunate to get him.
Think my heart is going to be in my mouth everytime he gets fouled/taken out/stamped on worrying about howe long he's going to be out for!
[cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite]He is clearly going to be a Charlton favourite until someone else realises how good he is & takes him off us which will happen.
Said to RedarmySE7 on Saturday I bet the first half of the season he has a stormer and then someone comes in with an offer for him that we can't refuse, which would be just our luck! Probably Pardew as well.
If this fella doesn't perform then I think we'll be left wanting in the creative department unless Martin's early promise continues
Don't expect anything from waggy, mac or seme in that department
If we're to have any chance of success the reidanator will have to be one of the main men for us this season
Great to see him carry on where he left off even if he understandably tired towards the end. He's a winger, he'll have off days or maybe just be stifled by extra marking (hopefully freeing up eg Martin or Jackson etc).
Wasn't it great during the first half to hear that rare collective swell of expectation simply because he recieived the ball, prior to an actual chance materialising. So nice again to have a player who genuinely excites and still puts in his shift. Martin encouragingly commented about the "spirit" (and how Parky had emphasised it prior to k.o.) so let's hope he can follow Reid's example and marry that industry with his obvious skill.

I think he will perform as long as we dont put too much expectation on him. He is bound to have a bad game here and there, as most wingers do, so our other players must step up when Reidy does have a mare.
I think he has far too much class not to be one of our best players this year.
His display in that first half was as good a display of wingmanship (is there such a word?) as I've seen at The Valey in many a year.
Kyle produced what I thought Rommedahl would when we had him. I know we are talking about vastly differing standards of football but, as someone who loves watching good winers, I found it thoroughly entertaining.
Kyel's form in a funny way is why I hope Bally Smart signs and proves to be good enough to be taken on even though he is also a left footed winger.
Alex Ferguson once signed Jesper Blomqvist (remember him ) not to replace Ryan Giggs , but to have a similar player because he realised that Giggs could not play in 50 to 60 games and that he provided valuble left sided balance for the team and he wanted United to retain that at all times .

That's a very good point, Richard.
If you've got a successful formation and game plan, you don't want to have to change it to something else just because, if a player drops out, you don't have a replacement to continue playing the same way.
Reid always seeems to get tired in the second half, probably because the bloke tears around the field chasing everything down, so I'm guessing that's why Smart has signed on a temp. Reid was outstanding in the first half on Saturday and long may it continune.
It's a brilliant idea having a left footed winger on the left wing. Bravo.
Very good signing though. Been the best player or close to it in almost every game for us. Very surprised a player of this quality was available for a free. I can only think he badly misfired at Sheff U and just lost the manager's confidence, but seems to have got back to form very quickly.

i said this on saturday cant believe we got him he is so much better than this league
Kyel Reid is far too good for League 1, hopefully he keeps doing the business and we have a chance at promotion. It is not a exaggeration to say that our hopes of a good season depends on whether Reid can maintain a certain standard of performance as without him I am not sure where the chances are going to come from unless of course we revert to long ball and rely on Abbott and Akpo. I agree with ooaahh that creatively we are lacking, unless of course Martin and maybe even Smart step up to the plate.
[cite]Posted By: Weegie Addick[/cite]So McLovin and NLA - does Parky take any credit for getting him for free and getting the best out of him? ;-)
Parky has done very well to get Kyle to the club and we cant take that away from him but unltimately it seems that Reidy is happier down south and at a local club, and the key to why he has discovered such good form for us.
Yes, of course, I can't imagine there'll be many better signings in our league. I've always said that Parky is good in the transfer market, to be fair so it's hardly a big leap for me but I'm not too rigid to call it like it is. The main source of my frustration on here is people who trot out a line regardless of evidence or events.

So Parky just got lucky then, nothing to do with his chasing Reid all summer .....?

Player Of The Season contender based on that show and what we saw last season
Parkys best signing IMO
Reidy, Reidy, Reidy is a bit boring.

Think I'm just getting over excited.

enough time for him to drag us back up to the land of money, the evil premiership

He plays on the left, he plays on the leeeeefffffft
That Kyle Reid makes Lloyd Sam look shite
I thank you :-)
