Akpo

  • Depends what you mean Kap 10 about Heskey, as a school boy and young player he had a prolific record. I was just trying to be a 'smart arse' about Carl.....
( It is one of my pet in house jibes) I hope the lad does bang in goals as others have suggested, to me he is a target man, he gave everything on Saturday, and scored.

And if he does that 'smart arses' like me can ask no more. But I still like the label......
  • [cite]Posted By: Kap10[/cite]But Ken, neither leaburn nor Heskey have a scoring record, Akpoe has.

Last season, before we all realised what a waste of space Chris Dickson was, it was argued that whilst he did nothing he was capable of scoring goals and vociferously it was demanded that he be in the team, now it seems to be being argued that although Akpoe scores goals he does nothing else, so he should not be in the team, it does not compute!
Akpo does offer something more than goals and things Dickson can't though. He works hard, he's physical, can hold up the ball a bit and win headers. Dickson if he wasn't scoring offered none of those things.
  • Thank goodness Akpo was not, for the main part, involved last night (Shrewsbury). I'm sure it would have all been his fault otherwise!
  • whatever. Shouldn't start on Friday. Abbott and Martin have already showed they have an understanding and the making's of an effective partnership. That should continue from the start on Friday. Otherwise last night would have been a completely pointless exercise.
  • I like to think I can see both Akpo's strength's and limitations ...... but also that he can bring something to the team, that our other players generally can't.

And no denying that Akpo played a very decent game against Bournemouth.

But even though I didn't go to Shrewsbury, the reports coming back about the quality of link up play between Abbott and Martin augers very well for the 1st team. By all accounts Martin was virtually 'unplayable' in the hole and the opposition had no answer to him. Abbotts reading of the game, movement and touch resulted in these 2 players quickly finding an understanding together.

If I was Parky, I'd be thinking over that and considering that could be an ideal away fixture 4-5-1 strike force - and be very tempted to start those two together against Orient.

Which would be harsh on Akpo, because based on his last Saturday's performance, he 'deserves' to start.

While I don't share your opinions about Akpo, you were there so have to bow to your opinion.

I think history will show that it was a detrimental rather than pointless exercise though...
