Parkys got a big decision to make now. Play francis at right back against orient if his fit or stick with solly after really I think he has earned himself another place on the teamsheet. I think I'd stick with him.
[cite]Posted By: Sage[/cite]I completely agree with you Scoham. There are so many quality small players, and yes their height can be at their disadvantage but the other attributes make up for it in their own game.
I think Solly was targeted last season because of his age not his size more than anything. He has just proved every doubters wrong by his performance yesterday, he showed strength, awareness, good tackling and never pulled out of a challange once.
For me his overall game for the full 90minutes gave him the man of the match, at points he was faultless. If we had a man of the match at HT then an overall one at FT then Reid would have got it for his first half display and Solly the FT MOM one. All in all, shows a lot of promise for the season to come for both players. I personally can't wait.
"There are so many quality small players"
Try and learn this ... the fact that there are a few quality small players doesn't prove the point. Most quality players are not small.
The Greek philosophers had a word for it. Just because there are a few examples doesn't prove the point. Think about the multitude of examples which disprove the point. Solly did well yesterday ... and I'm pleased for him. But his size will be a problem ... just like Francis' inability to turn will be a problem. He is the new Hreidarsson.
The exception probes the rule. A Brazilian manager once said that England was obsessed with height, but that as Brazilian players tended to be shorter in stature than the European teams, he concentrated on tactics and ball skills, and added that it seemed to work! But in this league, with a preponderance of less skilled players, I think Solly's height may will disadvantage him. However, his terrier like attitude is impressive, he didn't shirk any challenge and for me, he has earnt his place.
