While I was at Poly in Manchester in about 1988, one of the students went on Blind Date and she was a bit wacky, for a few weeks afterwards she was quite well known for this around the campus.
I shook Richard Branson's hand on a Virgin Atlantic Flight to St Lucia, he asked where I was staying, I told him 'I spent all my money on this flight, so nowhere yet, can I stay with you?' He just laughed and moved away...........
[cite]Posted By: eldavide[/cite]As a teenager, I watched a porn movie round the house of athletics commentator Stuart Storey, not with him I hasten to add!! His son was in my class.
I knew Stuart back in the seventies as he was in charge of PE at Thames Poly back then and took our rugby training (playing the odd game for us too but I digress).
It was only a few years after he competed in the 110 metres hurdles at Mexico in 1968 and he was still pretty useful in the weights room. He also coached Geoff Capes and Geoff would come along to the Poly weights room for our sessions. I can remember Geoff bench pressing 350lb in sets of 20 (!) and four of us taking the bar when he had finished! Pre multi gym days! Judy Oakes also came sometimes along with some lesser known but still distinctly useful local athletes.
A few years later in 1983 I went to the Europa Cup at Crystal Palace with a friend. My friend said "look Stuart Storey the commentator is standing over there." I wandered over, followed by my friend, and Stuart shhok my hand and addressed me by name and we had a chat. My friend was shocked and impressed. I remember it because it was one of the very few times in my life that I've managed to impress anybody!
My picture was on a 3ft x 3ft board outside the careers office in Woolwich for about 5 years. I was waiting for a bus outside there one day and they asked if I would come in so they could take some pictures of me reading books, speaking to the advisor etc.
How I was never snapped up as a model I'll never know!
My great grandad used to work on the Docks with Max Bygrave's Dad, and my Mum used to work one day a week with Mark Williams' (the bloke from The Fast Show) mum.
i used to babysit for paul simmenon (the clash) younger sister's olivia and jocie when i was a teenager. imagine my excitement to walk into their lounge for the first time in 1988 without knoqwing any connection and seeing the London Calling gold disc on the wall as well as many others. when i asked his dad (tony) about them, he replied that he was waiting for him to get a proper job...classic!
Re: Pilchard's request for further details. Steve went to schoool with Lisa stansfield in Rochdale, they were in the same science class and when they were doing a lesson involving microscopes the teacher told them to look at a hair under their scopes, and when teach' wasn't looking, Lisa stuck her hand down her keks and grabbed a handful to distribute among her mates... as you do...
My wife shared a late night cab with Rod Hull. She asked if he had been on his holidays because he had a suitcase with him. He'd been working and Emu was in the case.
