My summery of Phil Parkinson 10/11.

Throughout the last coupple of years life at Charlton has been far from sublime. We have gone from being a mid table Premiership team to a League one club. Last season Parky had to yet again basicly manage (PARDS leftover TEAM) and even with them where still so close to promotion. I feel Parky's managing style is alot diffrent to Pardew's and within the last 3 months Parky has really growen on me I will admit at first I was one of Parky's ''Boo Boys'' But im going to give him Credit where its due as i belive he could be the person to turn this club around.

people have slated Parky saying his the same as Pardew bla bla bla, Under pardew did Parky really get a say in alot of the things? more then likely not.

One thing that people seem to be doing lately is looking into the past, Whats happend has happend we all know this by now, At this moment in time we are a league 1 club, Now at last all of the players apart from a coupple have all gone from the Pardew reshime, The team now consists of Parky's Players, Parky's Coaching team (to some exstent) Parky's Tatics , Formation, If there was ever a time to judge Parky as a manager it has to be this season as the team is basicly his now!. I think his signings have been nothing short of quality. People also keep slateing Alan-Mac , Why? i fault vs Watford he was a good threat , Looked good on the ball, made a coupple of great runs from the half way line up to the Watford pen Area, took players on, got stuck in, etc.

I dont think signing players from the past is the way forward in all honesty (ig luke varney roumers) At the end of the day we need to look into the Future and bring in players who really want to play in a Charlton shirt, who are hungry to do well and to prove them selfs, someone who sees Charlton as being a Challenge, Not just another club!

I belive we need 3/4 more people (as long as Andy,Bauza Sign up)

ST, someone with pace to work with Abbott , RM, Cover for waggy (Norby maybe) ST, maybe Loan another striker for cover, DEF, someone on Loan to cover the defence.

I belive as long as Parky makes the right signings between now and the start of the season, we have a great chance of Making the Playoffs, So for once lets all drop the rubbish and get behind Parky & Team and make The Valley a Fortress!

Parkinson's Red n White Army!

  • And the boo boys shut the fck up, It probably /did cost us a few points last season.
    Why do they go?
  • You cant blame Charlton losing points because of the ''Boo Boys'' they are intitled to there opinion and i do agree that they need to give the guy a chance
  • Opinions are what make the game it is. But if player's are giving 100%,then in my opinion don't slag them,
confidence is a fragile thing so if it makes a bit of difference, support them. If they are taking the piss
not trying, then yes go for it.
  • boss summery
  • Quality summary.
  • very wintery, perhaps even autumnal.
  • Hmm there's a bit of springy feel to it at the start but that's gone now! ;o)
  • I think I'll await Parky's team selection, tactics, substitutions and whether he can motivate before I pass judgement. Done well with signings and on paper we look to have a decent team, maybe not a decent squad yet, but football isn't played on paper. The season hasnt started yet so a summary of 2010/11 is a tad early.

How you work that one out?
  • [cite]Posted By: MattD[/cite]How you work that one out?

Finished above 20 other teams and missed out by two points and a missed penalty
I would say a pretty good season all in.
  • Good for a mid table team

We all predicted mid table at best.... and he almost got us up...

Some people cant see what he did, with zero money spent on players...

well this season lets hope he proves them all wrong...

He will keep getting slated though, even though he has a tougher job this year...

and with a support group like this how could he fail :)

Lets boo him to victory, lets get behind the dug out and shout insults about his wife, thatll help us get up...

    Onwards and upwards..;)
  • He was a coach/assistant manager/mute/invisible man during pardews reign, he became manager with us @ 3rd bottom of the championship,
his non inspiring period as caretaker for charlton has consigned us to what will be our worst footballing period since we entered league football
He failed to get us promoted last season when the board some how found the funds to give him a decent budget
This year he is restricted due to his and the teams failure of promotiion last year
He has still managed to sign some decent pros (and I'm sure they're not here for free)
This is his team, he has been backed by the board, once again, more than I thought would happen ......
promotion will = success, failure to do so and it's this pony league for a lot longer which may sit pretty with the everything is always great in charlton land crew but not me
  • It was always going to take time to turn a team devois of confidence around, particulalry with a Manager at the helm that was simply holding out for a pay check and a crowd that were booing the team everytime they conceded a corner...

    He did that...

in very successful stye with the best start to a season in charltons history and towwards the beack end of the relgation season...

he missed it by a **** hair last year in the end and deserves my support, others are less conviced obviously...

I think the board respects him which is also a good sign.. shame some of the supporters dont...

We arent owed a place in the CC, and lets hope he proves to be the exact guy to steer us back the cc
  • I think the reason everyone thought mid table last year was due to the fact no one expected the board to dig so deep and find the money to keep the likes of bailey, semedo, shelvey and co
Then the continued backing to find the huge wage budget(for league 1) to get in dailly and then the further backing to get in reid , forster & co , they didn't play for free
On the backing parky received there promotion was nearly achieved but nearly isn't enough
I believe if we finished 3rd in the london and kent border league we would still have fans running round with two dicks saying how successful a season we've just had :-)
  • We are only in this league because he failed to keep one of the most expensive squads in the Championship, up. Not entirely his fault. We only stayed in this league because he managed to fail to get the most expensive squad in the league up. Still not entirely his fault, but more-so. This season, he'll have a less expensive squad, but it'll pretty much be his. Will the apologists blame his lack of a budget if he fails again (although he's still got more to work with than the likes of Jackett ever had)? That would seem a paradox, since he's failed with a budget, but without the players of his choice, and that's been submitted as a reason for the failure.
  • Call him a C*** see if I care...

and will you stop covering this forum in tears... were gonna run out of Johnstone and Johnstone at this rate... ;)
  • sad times for charlton mascot , no matter how it's dressed up ;-(

  • Mate, its not sad times.......

    its good times...

So we arent prem .. so f-ing what... I enjoyed last season more than any for the last 5 or 6, we were winning most of the time, plenty of goals.. I feel far more attached to this new bunch of players than any team for ages, I feel Pardews stench is finally starting to clear and a proper bunch of grafters are coming in.

I know Im positive, and I know I was born with a smile on my face, but the bad times have turned for me. I was numb watching us fall through the leagues and particularly the prem before we got pards in and a splash if hope, those games were terrible, week after week getting beaten knowing the dream was drifting away, and the CC wasnt much kop either...

But now, we have a decent team, some new faces, and we almost did it last year...

This could be our year, this could be the one...

I for one am very much looking forward to next season, cant wait!

    Bring - it - on I say!!!
  • Also when we get out of this, we all know that we are proper hard that weve seen out team turn from good to shite to good again...

oh... unless you cried your way through the whole thing instead of getting behind the team and helping them out ;)

Despite Oohaah's doom mongering which he'll possibly describe as being 'realistic', I agree with Mascot on this one.

My Dad first took me down The Valley in 1964, so I've seen a lot of Charlton teams over the years....... I reckon I've got a pretty fair idea of what it means to support Charlton Athletic!

After the period of an element of Charlton fans braying to "get to the next level" and Curbs running out of steam, the huge disappointment of Prem relegation, players just turning up for the money, plus the Pardew false dawn ........we've finally got a manager and team that I can again identify with.

If Parky was perfect, he'd no doubt already have been head hunted and be in charge of a successful Prem club.
But we are where we are, and to me Parky is doing things the Lennie and Curbs way.

Not only can I live with that, even in the Third Division ....... but for the first time in a few seasons, I'm actually enjoying it all. And I feel part of it.

Last season ended in crushing disappointment, but there were loads of good times home and away, even exciting times.

Great news coming out of the club about the restructuring, Parky & Murray working now closely together, just as Curbs & Murray did. Parky truly building his own team, having Pardew's dead wood finally removed. I'm really looking forward to this season.

    We've got our Charlton back!
  • Agree 110% Mascot
  • "Attached to this new bunch of players" "finally we've got a manager and a team I can identify with"

I hope that by the end of October I might be feeling this but it looks as if there are going to be so many new faces I think I'm going to need a bit of time to identify who the hell they are before I can I start to identify with them!
  • I for one cannot stand to hear the moaning and booing by those pr##tts who think we should still be at the top. I cannot always get behind the team because i cannot relate to the Lloyd Sams of this world. Wearing pink booties and pulling out of tackles.
Parkinson deserves the crowd to get behind him. Under increasingly difficult circumstances he has done a very good job. Had we have got to Wembley and beaten the scumbags we would be saying a marvellous job.
So give him a chance. Let's hear his name chanted from time to time and give some encouragement. The booboys kept us down last season, let's see if they can take us up??
  • I agree totally with Mascot & Oggy. I started going to the Valley regularly in 1968, the season we came 3rd in the old 2nd division just behind Derby & Crystal Palace. I think my dad took me for the very 1st time in about 1964 as well Oggy, although all I actually remember of that occassion was the great fun to be had running up and down the steps of the mighty old East Terrace. So I have seen it all before and am well adjusted to the crushing disappointments that will come from supporting a "small" team like Charlton. I am thoroughly enjoying following Charlton again now and I really think that Parky is doing his absolute best to push the club forward again.

Some people don't seem to be able to let go of the past. It's gone!!! We all need to concentrate on the future and enjoy it.

One of the most bizarre reason ever not to get behind the team. I assume you found it really hard to support England in the World cup as there lives are even further from yours. I would suggest you would happier watching Sunday league down your local park.

And Parky's difficult circumstances surely became so because of his own input.

Please can we try and lay some of the blame with the manager and players instead of the fans who have little if any real influence across a season.

But the fans can have a big influence over the season.

They can decide whether to undermine the atmosphere, descending into hopelessness.
Or energise it to create that fantastic unity when the ground is rocking - and crowd and team are one.

Abuse and negativity never helped our team one jot, when some players were struggling in February.
    Remember?

It's been said so many times before, but I'll say it again.
The crowd should be the team's 12th man.

That's what supporting your own team is all about, surely!

Oggy - I absolutely agree that abuse and negativity never help. On the other hand I think that the 'fantastic unity' you talk about is mostly illusory and it just makes us feel better about ourselves - 'Woopie, I sang my heart out and contributed to that win'. When the truth is that it's simply more fun to sing and chant even if it doesn't actually affect the result. There have been studies done on this (basketball, admittedly) and they discovered that, actually, the teams played with more passes completed and baskets scored when there was no one in the stadium.
