Nigerian defender Sam Sodje’s transfer to Greek club Xanthi has been called off after it was discovered that he has a serious knee problem. A top source at Xanthi told only MTNFootball.com that Sodje failed a medical at the club on arrival in Greece. Sodje, 31, was to have signed a year’s deal at Xanthi with an option for another year, but a medical showed he has a major knee problem which only allows him to ... See Moretrain twice a week.
i was not aware that this was even taking place does this mean that he will be staying with us
I heard (though never substantiated) that Sodje has had dodgy knees for a few years now which was the main reason Grayson wasn't interested in signing him at Leeds following his loan spell.
He could well be a Ledley King where a Club is prepared to put up with the situation so long as he can play more often than not although most Clubs at our level don't have the luxury of paying for a semi crock.
Pay per match is no good really because it incentivises the club not to play him, maybe some deal based on availability for matches would be possible but if this is not a new problem then why would we change our position from last season (where he played a good number of matches though had a tendency to lie on the ground for good periods of them)
wouldn't sign him - only if on really good terms for us - liability getting sent off all the time and we have enough centre halfs who will attack the ball in the air - we need a bit of pace now.
[cite]Posted By: Saga Lout[/cite]Surprised at this - thought he was finished after he failed the medical at the Greek side he was supposed to be signing for. Pompy must be desperate.
Is the transfer embargo still in place? If so, can they still sign players on free transfers? I'm not sure, despite the regular nature of these embargoes nowadays.
Jon Fortune would surely be a better bet than Sodje for Pompey?

Sky Sports (where this came from) says he was with the Greek side for a month and ended it by mutual consent.

See post 5 above. Also it's what Parky said at the famous seat-cleaning Q & A.
Can't say I am surprised he did not get a deal, they have pretty bad financial constraints and Sodje proved last year that not only is he a bit of a liability in terms of red cards but his injury record was poor and he is always likely to miss games.
Sure he will get a club, dependent on his wage demands I guess as sure he would have to take another cut, also with the rule about short term deals and then having to wait until Jan before re-signing for another club- it does not help. When injuries and suspensions properly kick in, then players like Sodje are more likely to get deals.

he was playing whilst managing the situation. Now it's a problem.

Is this for Real or or just a bad pun?
