Cardiff transfer embargo remains due to Charlton

edited July 2010 in General Charlton
According to the Mail, Cardiff are still under a transfer embargo because we made a complaint about £500k they owe us from the Hudson deal. I suppose it shows that new owners don't necessarily solve your problems.

  • 500k is a massive amount for us. I wonder if this is the reason parky keeps saying he's waiting for the budget to be finalised. Pompey were told all football debts had to paid asap so this should apply to them too, as someone said before if they can't afford it then surely we can send the bayliffs around and remove one or 2 of there players to the value of 500k? There's no room for sentiment or compassion in todays world we need that 500k end off, maybe we can send the boys round ;-)
  • boothroyd and chopra on loan for a season the 500k as their wages, with a clause if they get injured cardiff still owe us the remaining amount of money

Or just chopra and bothroyd sign for us ;)
  • what sort of deal was it £10 down payment and then half a mill if you don't get promoted
  • Too be honest if i was Cardiff i would give us 500k and Dave Jones to say sorry, and post Parky there in return
  • How much longer are the footballing powers going to allow Risdale to be involved at boardroom level?

I know he's gone now but this really isnt the first time he has left this sort of legacy.
  • We seem to get stiffed, every time.

What I can't understand is why investors who don't have sufficient funds take over clubs. It happened twice with Pompey as well. Risdale obviously shoulders a lot of the blame, but the new crew shouldn't have gone near the deal as they don't have the clout to get the club out of bother.
  • As this is none of our fault, the Football League or FA should step in, give us the money we are owed, and then claim it back from Cardiff.

    Easy solution but wont happen

They might. Similar happend with Palace and Pompey where fees and TV money were held back and paid to other Clubs direct by the FL and PL.

Would mean waiting till the next TV payment or transfer fee though.

Cardiff losing Ledley with no compensation to Celtic has maybe buggered their cash flow too.

  • About time we did something like this, as a club everyone sees us as nice little old Charlton. It is time to make sure we get what is ours, Bailey was a start and this the next step
  • based on the hudson deal , what did we get from boro for bailey £50 up front and £950k if boro don't go up next season ... weird

    Err?

Hudson was £1m From reading the report it seems to be one payment of £500k up front and another a year later ie now.

Were are you getting £10 and £50 from?
  • [cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]what sort of deal was it £10 down payment and then half a mill if you don't get promoted

no it was half the fee on signing, half in a years time, now due. We will be top of the creditors list. Read somewhere that Whittingham may be sold soon so we amy get it then if not from withheld TV money as Henry said.

I doubt this has affected transfer policy/budget.
  • It was £100 up front, then £250 every time we sell out an away game.

    LOL
  • i thought there was promotion clauses involved ..... so surprised that it was £500k when they WEREN'T promoted
and half a payment seems odd to me i thought there would be a larger percentage as a down payment

A lot of deals are done like that, hardly any deal is one lump. Lots are paid over a few years and, some like you said, are reliant on clauses being met.
  • Just goes to show you the difference between promotion and staying down. If Cardiff had won the play off final, they'd have had all their problems sorted by now.
  • I think there was a move to have larger upfront payments and shorter terms to avoid clubs over committing.

Not sure if it went any where.

I think there may have been a promotion clause on top of the £1m but I don't know.

  • so i wonder how much we got up front for jonjo and bailey , maybe these buffer payments aren't as great as, i for one, first thought .
so the club may not receive anywhere near the £3m ish we expect for quite a while yet ...
so fair play on the players we've got in so far

That's two positive responses I've read of yours this week.

What have you done with our Oohaah? We demand his return

there is a promotion clause, 250k if promoted during the period of his contract. How it's paid is down to the Clubs but generally it's 50% on signing, 50% a year later but can be spread over longer period if Clubs agree.

doesn't really matter when you get the money. You know you are guaranteed to get it and budget for it accordingly. At other Clubs there is a degree of balancing out because whilst you are continually making payments for fees you are at the same time receiving them too. Of course doesn't apply to us at the moment.

well i wont talk wishy washy rose tinted bullshit like some, i say it how i see it , even tho it doesn't sit pretty with some !
  • There are all sorts of implications from these situations.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that Charlton, or any other club in a similar situation i.e. already struggling financially, could go into administration as a result of not receiving a significant sum of money from another club. The Football League would then scandalously deduct us 10 points for going into admin, even though it is as a result of them allowing a liability like Peter Risdale to pass their rigorous fit and proper person test and start spending money he hasn't got again.
  • Cardiff press saying that the £500k is owed to a credit broker rather than us which I suppose is a real possibility.
  • Somebody posted on here earlier that the debt was sold off to a debt collecting agency.

Me - Story was in the SLP yesterday.
  • It may be that the bank has paid out on debt in return for a percentage (usually quite high).

They then take the risk and demand payment.

Thanks, Clem. Just couldn't remember exactly where I'd seen it *thumbs up*
