  • Time will tell... We should know for sure in a couple of days.
  • Just posted that in the rumours thread. Said in there, surely it would mean we're close to getting a couple of strikers in, otherwise we'd be going into the season with Akpo, Tuna and Perkins.
  • Strange if true. As a contracted player he still holds some value and, I would have thought, could be used in a swap deal for another player.
  • I'll be having a bet on him scoring 15 goals next season for whoever signs him.
  • If you remove the ? out of the Title of the Thread think you will be spot on.
  • Im with Valley on this one. He is utter gash, but he could still command a fee, even if its a small one. Equally we could use in a swap deal as Valley said.

Lets hope we have some decent strikers lined up to come in then
  • If it's true it's probably similar to Yassin, no one showed any real interest and we can't afford his wages. Said sometime during last season Parky probably knew McLeod wasn't the answer but gave him a chance, mainly because he didn't have many options until he got Akpo and Mooney in.

    :-O

That means we have to pay money out? That can't be right?
  • Trouble is any team involved in such a swap would be lumbered with his high ish wages.
  • I guess if he's on big(ish) money then we might be finding it hard to 'build him into' a swap deal, if the selling club refuse to pay the same wages.

With the season fast approaching perhaps the board have decided to cut their loses to get new players, and strikers, in.

Only if someone else is willing to take him or swap him.

Might be better to cut our losses and free up those wages to get a few other players in.

Wouldn't be surprised if he can stay fit. There were glimpses but he never really did it here often enough. Another team, another set up and maybe a different league then he could get back to being the player who scored 24 ish for MK Dons

But it's not on the OS yet : - )
  • Have no idea where he will end up, ideally he will go to Scotland where he was linked with last year. This way at least he cannot score against us next season which if he goes to a League 1 side it will be inevitable.

i agree with this totally. even if we cant get any money for him some teams will take him in an exchange deal

Could well be that the Club have tried and no one was interested.
  • Didn't see the word 'contract' when I first read this threads headline, it wiped the smile of my face when I did I can tell ya!!!
  • If/when he does go then I'll reflect on what a disappointing player he turned out to be for Charlton.

I remember when he first joined - and fans' genuine excitement.

For years we wanted Curbs to sign the promising strikers from the lower leagues, like Earnshaw and Zamora. He never did.

You can go back to the likes of Steve Portway for evidence of our clamber to snare the next big thing.
I even remember Ackworth's lists of lower league striking talent posted on Netaddicks.....;)

When we snapped up McLeod it looked like a gamble worth taking.

Although there's no concrete evidence that Parky's interested in Richard Brodie it does make me wonder if the York man would go the same way as Izale, Fleetwood and Dickson.

Then again for every Portway, there’s a Charlie Austin.
  • How strange. I remember sitting at a computer in a hotel lobby almost exactly three years ago when it was rumoured he would be signing for Charlton and looking at his You Tube videos thinking I hope he signs because he looked the dogs blox but all he turned out to be was the blox bit.
  • I've often thought how different his Charlton career could have been if he had scored the one on one he had against palace in his first season.

    Or the penalty against Stockport

was just thinking the same thing. Never seem to have any confidence and maybe that would have given it to him.

  • Can we still rehabilitate him?

He knew where the back of the net was once.

Or is it his attitude (c.f Millwall loan) that means that we really can't have him at the club anymore?

    Hmmmmm....
  • sign them but on different terms
  • as the article says we have reached agreement on the settlement of his contract. If, for example, he was on 6k pw that means the last year of his contact was worth 312k. IF he has an offer from elsewhere of say 3k per week then it's likely he'll want the difference of 3kpw, ie 156k, paid as settlement or thereabouts. So we'll save around 150k over the course of the season. So we'd get a player off the books that we don't want and free up enough wages to sign another at least.

Maybe he'll return to MKD, he was quite successful there I understand.
  • Who did we play when he came off the bench and earnt us two pens?

The last two clubs that loaned him wanted to send him back. Do you really believe we can sell him?

If his career grinds to a halt because of this, he need look no further than his own arrogance for the reason why.

If one miss is all it takes to shatter his confidence then I doubt he was ever cut out for football at any kind of elevated level.

Small League 1 club or League 2 club where he can be a big fish in a small pond is probably where he'd do best I suspect.

    fair points.

He was just one of those players I had a soft spot for and particularly wanted to do well. Of course I want all our players to do well but for some reason I liked Izele

Think you right. Didn't seem to settle in elsewhere.
