They're similar in quite a few ways. The way they look for good characters, can be a bit cautious with the team and subs, in most cases prefer solid reliable players over the type Pardew and Dowie signed.
Parky far more like Curbs than Dowie, Reed or Pardew were at least.
Until he's won promotion he won't be seen as a success at all, so will never really be compared.
[cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]if he gets us 2 promotions to the premiership and 8 years in the top flight then the answer to that is YES
until that day the answer is NO
If he done all that then i'd start comparing him to Moses. Not bloody curbs
He's certainly curbing the enthusiasm of many Charlton fans.
Being a bit dull and not being too keen on flamboyant characters doesn't make you a Curbs. Parky's only notable achievement has been breaking a few records while bringing us to this division. Even with a promotion we're only back to where he took us over.
didn't murray compare Parky to curbs in an interview, or some kind of Q&A, a while back. i believe he said something like parky having the full support of the board and one of the reasons for this was because he displays a lot of the same characteristics that curbs did.

Yes he did. parkie is very curbleyesque in style, but of course he has a long way to achieve even a modicum of curbs success.
In fairness to Parky when he took over the club was in a right aul shambles, he;s had no money to work with and had to do a fairly big rebuilding job, to get us back up would be a big acheivement and to keep us up another big achievement, it wouldn't compare to what Curbs has done but considering the misery since Dowie took over it would be bloody brilliant.
Well Parky's achieved one relegation, so there is a *kind* of similarity.
But he hasn't fallen out with England internationals (Konchesky, Parker, Murphy), walked out on the team as a player (FM Cup Final), allowed a brilliant coach to leave (Les Reed) or walked out on a contract when the going appeared to get tough.
[cite]Posted By: carly burn[/cite]Take it you didn't start the 'Bring back Curbs ' campaign on facebook Chizz.
Curbs was absolutely a genius and the very best person to have managed Charlton at the time. But it's eighteen years since he was appointed and many, many things have changed in that time. Curbs isn't the answer to Charlton's problems. But I think Parky might be the answer to some of them.
If you mean Curbs pre '98, keeping us afloat on no money, building a team with promising youth players and experienced journeyman pros and dealing with the fact that the fans and boards focus is more on what is going on off the pitch than on it, then yes.

Will he be given 6/7 years to achieve that though like Curbs?
He was left a lot more shit in my opinion than when Curbs took the reigns (ground issues aside). We were also a mid table 2nd division team when Curbs took over. We were doomed to Div 3 when PP took over.
Hes doing above and beyond IMO with the current climate/circumstances we are in.
Not sure we can 'put ground issues aside' as they were hardly an aside were they? Curbs achieved. Parky, both as Pardew running boy unable to stop the madness, and as sole manager, clearly has not.

same, some comparisions just arn't realistic, and i doubt this is one of them.
[cite]Posted By: Chizz[/cite]or walked out on a contract when the going appeared to get tough.
is that the contract he said he was happy to complete the last year of and murray said no i have a better idea .... clown shoes
Either way, it's the contract he failed to complete. Whilst expecting players to complete theirs.
it's the contract he wanted to complete but murray chose not to let him
My understanding was that he was willing to honour his contract in light of his history with the club. Not that he really 'wanted' to complete it. Curbs felt it was time to move on - hence why they were having that conversation in the first place. It was a courtesy offer that comes after years of a friendly relationship with his boss.
No point in giving a manager a season where his heart is quite clearly not going to be in it, where both current and prospective players all know that he is leaving - and the massive uncertainty that comes with that, where the fans spend 12 months in some form of transitional hiatus with no sense of where the club is moving in the future, but only of where it has been in the past.
Although to be fair, it did work for France this world cup?
Please stop banging on about that 'year'. It's completely redundant.

Never
And Chizz, you have such a revisionist view of Curbs that it really is painful to read.

There really is nothing else to discuss is there?
Its like comparing Paisley and Hodgson
