I saw him quite a lot as a youngster starting out at Bournemouth. Looked a very good player at that level back then, with lots of potential and I think Curbs even had a look at him. But he hasn't really set the world alight wherever he's been since. Whether that injuries or whaever I don't know. As a kid he had a decent touch, good turn of pace and wasn't afraid of having a go at goal given the chance but as for what he's like now ....
[cite]Posted By: thewolfboy[/cite]We have to assume that Parky was not convinced by Forster and thinks that Feeney is a better bet, if he signs.
can't assume that at all. Maybe Forster got a better deal at Brentford. Or maybe we were not in a position to offer him anything at the time. Or maybe he saw the writing was on the wall and thought Brentford a better bet for promotion.
Does it matter how good or bad or how good his goal record is??????

They all had fckin great records, what does the goal record prove??
Billy Paynter scored 82 in 311 (82 in 10 years league service)with a big chunk of them last season. If it clicks and they get the right partner/service all is good. if they dont they'll go down in folklore as a shitheap (as per above)

This so true. Only the very top class strikers can consistantly make their own chances and score.
All the others rely on a quality and quantity of service. They'll all miss plenty of chances, but create plenty of chances for them and let the law of averages do the rest.
Usually a striker will average around 1 goal in 3 games - but that depends on the number of chances created, as well as taken.
All well and good saying he's signing for someone else, but it's another striker on free signed by someone else. There can't be too many strikers hanging around who have played above League One level right now?
We won't be paying a transfer fee so freebies and loans are what we will have to sign.
50 games in 4 years ? why o why o why o why do CAFC have to risk our tiny tiny budget on another lump of lard who will just take our money and use up space in the medical room?
o dear slgging the guy off before him kicks a ball ? yes sorry to say i am. How many naffing times we will be fed the complete bullshit line " hungary--- blah recovering from long term ingrowing toenail and needs to get back to a level " all well and good f**k off somewhere else and do it.
We aren't learning by our mistakes (and by God, we've made a few in the past few seasons) if we keep signing crocks. It is a luxury that we cannot afford these days...to have someone taking up a significant percentage of our wage bill without playing....
It's not like the Pardew days where we could sign 20 players and hope that one becomes a goal machine....it didn't work then and has even less chance of working now due to the fact that we could only afford to sign 2!

Grimsby fans will tell you that Clive Mendonca was plagued with back and hip problems while he was with them.
So arguably Curbs spent £700k on a crock. The clever bit was keeping Sir Clive going long enough to get us promoted twice.
[cite]Posted By: Danny Addick[/cite]Will Hoskins is no prolific goalscorer either though...?
Where do prolific goalscorers come from? They don't start their career scoring 20 goals a season at 16/17.
It is just a feeling I have (and I don't think I'm the only one). He has a pretty decent record in League One. He then signed for Watford in the Championship, but didn't play regularly. Now in his mid 20s, set to play regularly for Bristol Rovers, it might be just what he needs.
Not saying he'll definitely do it, but it's the type of gamble that could pay off for Bristol Rovers.
[cite]Posted By: bigstemarra[/cite]To be fair, Oggy, Super Clive was consistently finding the onion bag for a good few seasons.
And he was Super, obviously. Curbs clearly saw that and got him down to SE7....
Yeah, but Big Stem, what I meant by that, is that Curbs gambled by buying a player with a history of the same type of injury problems when at Grimsby. Mendonca's quality was never in doubt - but his fitness was.
Super Clive's first season, however was reasonably injury free and he scored 29 goals, including that superb hat trick at Wembley. Curbs had gambled and it had paid off.
He started the next season with a hat trick in our first home match in our 5-0 Prem win against Southampton but after a few more matches, the old injury kicked in again. He missed most of that season until returning in the middle of March. We were relegated by just 3 points on the final day of the season, but a fit Mendonca playing regularly throughout the season might well have scored the goals that kept us up.
After relegation, a fit Mendonca scored 2 in our first match of the season 3-0 win against Norwich and played regularly up until around Christmas.
And then the same old injury problems kicked in again. Fortunately we had Andy Hunt on fire to score goals and we were promoted as Champions.
Did Sir Clive ever play in our next Premier League season? ...... I can't remember seeing him.
I feel sure he missed a complete season or so, before being forced to retire early. It was the same old injury that finally got him.
But it was a gamble to sign him with his injury history - but Curbs was lucky, it paid off.

Thats 1 every 3.8 games equates to 12.36 goals ot by law of rounding he'll score 12.

if he does then it's one we have missed out on and Parky's fault ;-))
Hoskins is the one I'm more worried about, got a feeling he's going to do well for Bristol Rovers.

Your rant has come too late. Feeney is signing for Oldham.
;o)
