  • [cite]Posted By: Saga Lout[/cite]It's good news we don't have to pay a player we didn't even give a squad number to last season... Shame that whilst we were continuing to pay him there wasn't some way we could've got something for our money by playing him.
Great news, as said even if we're paying him off, it should be less than what his contract is worth.

Disagree with that, know what you're saying but you can't build team spirit nor get much out of a player that knows he isn't really wanted by his club. He looked very good at first, but most recently failed to impress at Motherwell. I think that shows he isn't as good as we thought he was.

Like McLeod, mainly pace without enough to the rest of his game to use it properly.
  • Finally! Couldn't this have been done a year ago?

This could be a bit of a loss: "Meanwhile, head of sports science Nick Davies has also left the club after accepting a new role with Premier League Birmingham City."

I suppose, maybe it would have been too expensive. Either that or they were hoping to get a fee for him last year.

Moo2 would also have been looking at £800k of earnings which he wouldn't want to walk away from.

Now with "only" £400k and a weaker £ v the euro it is a lot less to walk away from. plus as said another season with no football will hurt his career.

Pretty sure if someone had offered to take him and his wages we'd have let him go on a free just to save the money and get him out of the building.
  • Always felt he was massively overated by some fans, for me he fell out of the team for his form before he fell out of favour for his attitude. Good luck to the lad, I hope he settles somewhere and turns it around for himself - hopefully it hasn't cost us too much to get him to agree to cancel his contract.

I don't think its true to say he failed to impress at Motherwell. He did well for them but there was no way they could afford his wages so would never have purchased him permanently.

disagree. We were paying most of his wages and they still didn't want to extend the loan.

And reports from their fans said the same as ours; fast, get forward but can't cross the ball or defend

it's par for the course, when someone joins us he's always over hyped but dare point out his pony and you're being pessimistic and gonna affect his form
  • This will free up some money - but not a lot. Even though he will not be at the club his pay off would still be the wages of 1 to 2 squad players - so we will still be seeing the effects of it next season. I'll judge Parky when he can build a side whilst not lumbered with the burdens of previous regimes.
  • Won't be missed.

Shame it didn't work out as when we signed him I thought he would be a good investment. Thought he'd play a season and a half and then move on for a decent profit. Ho hum.
  • great news, long forgotten anyway except by the BACS system
  • good news - so long to a defender who couldn't defend. Another fine mess you got us into Mr.Pardew.

I think that it will be a while before that is the case, as we will be carrying the financial burden of Pardews cock up for years to come.
  • We are working on a smaller budget than last season so saving his 8k per week wages will just help to bring the wage bill down to where it needs to be, not free up 8k to sign new players.

Plus, if we have had to pay him off that willl be taken into account too. The OS quote says "After months of discussions, we've agreed that it would be best for all parties if Yassin left the club to pursue his career elsewhere". This could mean they've had to haggle and pay him off :(

I liked him when I first saw him but in the cup vs West Brom at home he seemed like a headless chicken in what was one of his last games for us. Pardew was getting wound up as he kept bombing forward and sliding in all over the place. Shame as he was a good athlete.

I also wonder whether or not he had an appearance fee/clean sheet fee,etc and if that was why we werent playing him.
  • i never can quite understand why people copy and paste entire sections of the official site into these posts when people can surely read it there for themselves if they want to?;={

Would imagine he had a very good contract. We've heard on here about his rumoured "loyalty bonus", I'd say there's a good chance most signings around then had good bonuses along with their good wages. When we signed him we were probably more worried about being able to hold onto him for more than a few seasons.

  • Good bye Yassin, thought you would be good, turned out you were shit. Let's hope Izale follows you out the door because he is equally as pony.
  • If the rumous are true then good riddance. If not then best of luck to him.

Anyone notice Sky Sports mentions the rumoured incidident with Harry Arter? Until yesterday I had only ever seen that mentioned on here once or twice, has it been taken from here?
  • [cite]Posted By: valleyman[/cite]Good bye Yassin, thought you would be good, turned out you were shit.

Yassin the Assassin ......... ultimately felled by his own bullet.

    ;o)
  • A pity, as I thought this guy was going to do great things for us...could have and should have..however he had issues which obviously got in the way of all that promise and expectation.
As a result, I think we're all glad to see the back of him, coupled with the thoughts of what 'might' have been.
  • When he joined he was France u-21 captain ahead of Younes Kaboul!

Definitely a wasted talend as he certainly had the makings of a good player - just a combination of bad attitude on his part, a few unconfirmed rumours and a manager with a preferred "type" of person/player and it all went pear shaped.
Shame it took so long for him to go away but let's draw a line under it and move on.

Not much left of the pardew era now is there

Good point, I seem to remember Pardew saying something about telling him it was ok to use as a stepping stone to go to a bigger club?
  • Great news...... a really positive start financially to the summer....
  • [cite]Posted By: mascot88[/cite]Great news...... a really positive start financially to the summer....

Exactly, as many have mentioned good news.

This pre-season is starting to feel like a re-generation of the club. We might have less of a team than last year but my gut feeling is we will be stronger by having a more balanced squad and hopefully no dead wood and injury prone named signings hindering our future.
  • Phew! thank god......

Stepping stone!..... what down to the conference!

Hope what I had heard on the grapevine is not true!

    I will end it there!
