Is there ever going to be any "good news" ffs???

edited June 2010 in General Charlton
One pile of sh*t after another. Nothing to cheer or get even remotely excited about in years. Relegaion after relegation, the sale of our best players, the takeover collapse, various embarrassing defeats in the cup to shite oppo, a winless streak lasting longer than a Bryan Adams and Wet Wet Wet number 1 PUT TOGETHER - the list just goes on.

Christ, I've even resorted to wishing bad fortune on others to try and cheer me up - but Palarse staying up, The Knuckledragging Spanners going up and now the Nigels not going pop means that hasn't even worked.

BO**OCKS!!!

True morts...but let's face it, we've been facing up to one reality after another and after another for what seems like an eternity.
  • Off It you've been arguing with Reams so much this season you're now turning into him!
  • See the post about March for all the good news you're going to get this week Off It but I know what you mean. This annus horribilis has been going on for a lot longer than 12 months.
  • I refer you to March_51's recent post Off_It. If that isn't good news, I don't know what is. Some things are more important than football.

Now all we need is for Palace's rescue to go tits up and result in Uncle Ron owning the ground again, Millwall to get demoted for fielding an ineligible player in the playoffs, Pardew to put his plonker in a player's missus (allegedly) and get sacked from Shitehampton, and the last four years at the Valley to have been a Flash-Sideways :o)
  • Enjoy the World Cup, forget about Charlton for a bit and come August we'll do it all over again.

More important things in life other than being a league below Palace and Millwall for a season, as tough as that is...

Far too long, fixtures out in about 3 weeks, Welling and AFC Wimbledon away in about 6 weeks ;-)

No, not at all. I say it how I see it. Have never denied that these are bad times.

Not the same as saying "we always fall short" though, is it?
    ;o)

    Brilliant! LMAO
  • Off It, i feel your pain fella.

I feel as if everything football wise is conspiring both against my club, and ridiculously against me personally. For about 4 years. Saturday was the most miserable birthday i can remember having until i got drunk. I should have been ahead of the game and got drunk by lunchtime !

I've been licking my wounds since the Swindon game and got as low as i could ever hope to possibly get football-wise by Saturday.

Now though is the time we HAVE TO turn the corner.

Every single person with some sort of Charlton affection has now got to 'swear the oath' that they will do everything they possibly can, big or small, to make sure we become a club on the up again. And come out of all this mess stronger than when we fell into it.
  • Wise words AFKA!
  • Well said

  • there will be no good news til we get promoted, and even then it will be daunting and scary and we will still have no money....

what Im scared of is the continuation of the bad news, I would take the Playoffs right ow and be absolutely delighted about it...

Mid table mediocrity and worsening financial positon is what I am scared of...

we have slipped into the mega money EPL black money vortex of death.....

Completely agree with Off_it, I don't know how much further we are going to fall before our luck begins to change, the last few seasons have been unbelievable. The blip started when we got relegated from the Premiership, then Zabeel announced they were coming in for us & I thought this is it, we're back. Then Zabeel pulled out & it's just been bad luck ever since.

I'm off to Dubai in 26 days, so I'll tap up some millionaire Sheik while I'm out there......although knowing our luck, I'd find the News of the World fake sheik!!

Welling & AFC Wimbledon away in the leauge in about 2-3 years
  • I watched the wonderful 2000/2001 season DVD today with my five year-old son today and it left me feeling.....hopeful.

    Why?

Well, in that DVD we played a third division outfit by the name of Stoke City in the League Cup - they turned us over of course.

Ten years on they are in the Premiership and we are in the third division but in football things are always changing so there is every chance that in 10 years we could easily be back in the Premiership and the likes of Sunderland, Bolton and Wigan could be in the third division.

Always remember the words of Boethius from the Consolation of Philosophy - so memorably purloined by Tony Wilson in 24-Hour Party People.

"Inconstancy is my very essence; it is the game I never cease to play as I turn my wheel in its ever changing circle, filled with joy as I bring the top to the bottom and the bottom to the top. Yes, rise up on my wheel if you like, but don't count it an injury when by the same token you begin to fall, as the rules of the game will require."

  • Anyone who thinks things cannot get any worse is seriously deluded, if anything things could get much worse much quicker if we are not careful.

Supporting Charlton has never been more painful.
  • can someone open them curtains and let just a chink of light in !

Agree wholeheartedly, but something within the club needs to change radically and the sooner the better...its like some sort of lethargy has seeped into every nook and cranny at the valley. The whole set up needs a massive shake up, and Im afraid that the only person who can do that is the Chair, and Im not sure he has the balls. All the fantastic work done at the club in the past is now sadly irrelavent, its the here and now that counts and the reality is we are skint (despite fantastic crowds) and seemingly rudderless. However, my love for this club runs deep and no matter what happens, you can count on my support.
