Sam Sodje

edited May 2010 in General Charlton
Is he the most brainless defender I have ever seen....twice he is isloated 1 v 1 by a forward and he goes diving in whne he needs to hold them up and wait for support....our marking on the whole is horrendous. Why is Borrowdale picking up their best header of the ball and not on of our center havles ? Too many basic mistakes and I'm afraid we might go out now as I cannot see them not scoring monday

  • But then he made a great goal saving block late on, if that had gone in it would have all but killed the play-offs for us. If Sodje was a more consistent player then he wouldn't be at Charlton, we have to take the flaws along with the things he gets right.
  • I can take some flaws but not stuff I would teach my U10 team not to do......granted it was a good block but then he should have been nearer the striker....that was pretty poor but lets hope we can turn it around Monday...btw Ward for them looked a touch of class......
  • He did save us a certain goal for sure but I thought he lacked a bit of effort at times and wasn't as commanding as usual, but in all honesty he didnt look fit, I think a fully fit Llera might have been a better option. Borrowdale's defending on crosses is awful though!!!
  • Without that last ditch block by SODJE it was tie over.Think you have to look elsewhere to the players that let charlton down tonight. That said only 1 goal down all to play for and the team that score first at The Valley on monday should go on to win the tie.NOW COME ON HUDDERSFIELD.
  • I'll bow to all your superior knowledge as I haven't seen him but twice this year on TV.... but was a little shocked......
  • Sodje was woeful tonight. He made so many stupid errors, including setting up their breakaway for the second. Drop him please.
  • Also remembering that he was a doubt for tonight and is still possibly carrying that injury.

He wasn't fully fit and certainly wasn't match fit.

I don't know whether Parky risked him or he told Parky he was fit but give him his due, he kept running.
  • Sam Sodje has been playing with a knee problem all season - he barely trains in the week, I understand.
  • Sodje is clearly not fit. Weak management to leave him on.

  • Not many other options as Llera is weak but SS had a shocker tonight

Post match thread hadn't been created at the time of this thread's inception
  • ah, fair do's
  • twice this guy went down, out on the sidelines, then back into the game. Is he hurt or injured? He played terrible in the first leg against swindon, and to all of you who are praising his shot-block, he was actually at fault for not being tight enough to the forward. Too many times S Sodje is caught watching the ball and not getting in front of the forward. He is only good for defensive headers. Why do u think so many teams have passed on him already?
  • Its official he's now a free transfer!

    Shame...
  • Shocking defensively, but the best header of the ball we've had in a long while. Still, would like him to sign for another season.
  • Sorry to see him go - there goes the "Two Sodjes" song!

I assume we can't afford to keep paying him.
  • neither were great in all honesty.

  • If you're taking that list as gospel, then Deon Burton and Lloyd Sam are on it too. Don't believe anything till its on the OS.
  • He's out of contract therefore a free agent, so he is available does not mean we are not offering him a contract. This week Parkie is finding out how much money he has to spend so will know the level of contract that can be offered. Don't forget S Sodje did not exactly have queues of clubs for him last season.
  • I think the state of S Sodje's knee will be the determining factor as to whether or not we offer him another contract.

We gambled unsuccessfully on Mckenzie's fitness. An even tighter budget will probably make Parky very cautious to gamble again.
  • he always seemed to have some sort of strapping around his shoulder that you'd see when he took his top off

Giving players a contract just because they are long term injured has never been a problem for Charlton
  • Quite liked Sam..................I'm undecided as to how sorry I am to see him go.
  • The strapping was to hide his I love millwall tattoo ohh ah ;-)
  • I have got a good pal who used to play for Margate with both Sam and Akpo Sodje. My mate was on a stag weekend with them the weekend just gone. Apparently Akpo is buzzing to be contracted to Charlton, he is a lovely quietly spoken chap apparently, couldn't wipe the smile off of his face. Sam on the other hand is a lunatic, always up to stuff. They managed to get contract info out of Sam on this stag, I was staggered, he (apparently) was on 9k a week. He said that he knows he will need to take a pay cut if he is offered a new deal, which he is not sure about whether he will or not.
  • 9 fecking K

League one no wonder we have no cash FFS
  • 9k pw. I don't think so.
