Haven't seen him on the telly recently, is he still getting work as a pundit?
Having £2m in the bank must be a big disincentive to trying very hard in the job market. If I had £2m, I'm sure I'd prefer to have a life of golf, fishing and weekend minibreaks - and I don't even like golf or fishing!
Also I would imagine if you asked most West Ham fans, they are only regretting selling Zamora since Fulham started doing well in Europe. He only got 2 prem goals in 08/09, Fulham were willing to let him go to Hull last summer and I seem to recall some Fulham fans giving Bobby a fair bit of stick hence his ssshhh celebrations when scoring. Therefore it is hard to criticise Curbs for selling Zamora, especially as the fee was very decent.
I would not say that Konchesky and Zamora were West Hams 'better players'. McCartney is perhaps a better LB and I don't seem to remember much of Zamora in a West Ham shirt after 06/07.
Curbs transfers may have been hit and miss but he also had to deal with one of his best players never being fully fit in Ashton, Kieron Dyer also breaking his leg early on and a fanbase who in some ways treated him like s***. Derby league and Macclesfield league cup games show this.
[cite]Posted By: dabos[/cite]I don't think he got overlooked in favour of Iain Dowie. That's just the Hull chairman telling porkies. Curbs would never have taken that job. Surely noone would actually think Iain Dowie would be a better choice than Curbs, would they?!
Curbs turned down Hull before Dowie was approached. Said he would only consider them next season if they stayed up.
Indeed, but the Hull chairman tried to claim that Curbs wasn't the right fit for them, and that Dowie was in fact a better choice. Which is complete bollocks of course
[cite]Posted By: I-SAW-POUSO-PLAY[/cite]Curbs may be happy with his break and spending time with his wife n family also I still think Konchesky is a poor left back.
Curbs has already admitted that he has been looking for a job from the day he left the Hammers but, up until Hull, not one Club has approached him (i'll find the link of I have to).
Konchesky a poor left back? That certainly was Curbs view because he refused to play him there and yet, if you look at the stats, Fulham have had, with him in that position, one of the meanest defences in the Premiership. So who's right? An out of work Curbs or a Roy Hodgson who has just taken a side to a European final and who has also managed at International level and the likes of Inter Milan.
Almost every Manager has at least one bad period in his career. In Hodgson's case it was Blackburn (though the criticism of him paying £7.5m for Kevin Davies was, in hindsight, somewhat unfounded). If Curbs really wants to re-build his career he needs to take a step down, possibly to a Championship Club (or even a League 1 ;-) and he may then get an opportunity to manage at the top.
Don't see the issue with Koncheskey and Curbs myself, we also had HH and Powell at the time. He usually played well in midfield as well, even in the centre. Probably wrong to get rid of him at West Ham, but here we had better options at the time, and Konchesky did well in other positions.
Konchesky is surely a more consistent player, and probably at his peak now? Not convinced he'd have played to quite the same level 6/7 years ago. Poor left back no, but now an experienced player getting the most out of his ability with a very good manager behind him.
Same with Kevin Davies, he's probably a much better player than he was when Hodgson signed him.
Agree Curbs will probably have to drop down to the Championship and take a club up.
Realistic jobs for Curbs could be Twente, Celtic, Ipswich, Fulham if Hodgson leaves and even Villa or Everton if O'Neill or Moyes were to leave....or Charlton if we were taken over.

He was awful. I understand your love for him at this club but at west ham he was awful. Yes they broke the contract by doing deals themselves but after the crock of shite he brought in and getting rid of some of our better players ie Zamora and konchesky you can hardly blame them for wanting to get involved
If Curbs hadn't taken over there West Ham would have been relegated. He did what was needed as they didn't have they players to play good football and stay up - Pardew had already proved that. Curbs also got the best out of Tevez and recognised how important he could be for the team, whereas under Pardew he was pretty ineffective.
I agree Curbs paid too much for average players ...... but that's what's available in the January transfer window,
and you have to pay a ransom price or go without.
No club wants to let it's best players go midway during a season, so most players available will generally be surplus squad players - and with relatively few players available, any manager has no choice but to pay inflated January prices.
That West Ham side he inherited from Alan Pardew was doomed with so much dressing room unrest - and had just been trashed 6-0 at Reading. So changes had to be quickly made regardless, bringing in fresh blood to generate a new spirit.
And the Icelandic money was there in plenty.
Anyway, by fair means or foul, West Ham stayed up - which was more than we managed!
Results wise at least, Curbs should get the credit.
The next season, West Ham finished 10th - and okay, the football was tight and uninspiring.
Not renowned for wanton risk taking, Curbishley managed cautiously to ensure that they were never in danger.
But we've all seen Curbs play a more adventurous attacking style - the promotion season of 99-00 and the fantastic start to 05-06 with only Chelsea above us for 2 months, so he can do it and will do it.
And when he quit West Ham early in the season with them in 4th place, I seem to remember they'd started with a much more open and fluid attacking style.
I've heard rumours Curbs might have something lined up, no idea where, but I'd agree with those who see Ipswich as a likely destination. He must know his way there, over the years he's either signed or tried to sign everyone who played for them.
Answer- Because he hasn't REALLY been looking for one.
All the time the West Ham court case was ongoing he couldn't get a job or it would have effected his eventual remuneration.
Additionally, we all know he doesn't really want to move house, so he has limited his own chances (and I can't say I blame him, as he presumably never needs to work again).
He won't get offered a Prem job until he gets back in there with another club.
Ipswich has everything going for him regarding location and potential. Just needs to get rid of Roy Keane.
I really don't get West Ham fans sometimes. Know a couple and they all agree with Uncle's view that Curbs was "awful" or "crap" for them.
Rejegation certanties when he took over, mid table finish the next season, started well the next. Are they really too stupid to see that he was BUILDING the club/team, which is what any good manager should do. Instant success is always nice, but sustained growth wins every time.
sounds familiar! West Ham think they are big (mainly coz they won the world cup!) but suffer form the fact they can't compete with Spurs and the really big clubs... as someone said higher up Reading beat them 6-0 (Curbs just wrote some notes "for the bus")and lost to us 4-0 before he turned it around... it has to one of the great escapes especially considering where they would be financially if they had gone down
I hope Curbs does get back in the game soon just to show how a club should be run over 3-5 years but then again maybe he doesn't need the grief?

And which clubs have the patience to give him that time?

and yet these world beaters finished each season behind sir alan's west ham sides
